Court Street in the Cobble Hill area is like one of the world's greatest outdoors malls...incredible mix of restaurants, businesses, groceries and other stuff.
Glad you covered the tunnel under Atlantic Ave. It is amazing to think that tunnel is hidden underneath the street and no one knows about it. Also the entrance is the manhole cover in the middle of Atlantic. Great video as always Tom, I am always learning something new (but I did know about the tunnel before).
Cool video, Tom. I like that in ur videos you highlight the Native American cultures that were once in the area. It’s sad thinking of the loss of a millennia old civilization once here on the continent. On a brighter note, luv the fall/autumn color coordination at 19:23 and nice closeup of ya at 20:22-looks like an outtake of a movie. Anyhoos keep it great 👍!
Okay, so now I finally know why that area is often called South Brooklyn even though at this time it's in the northern part of the borough. My maternal grandparents emigrated from Italy 100 years ago and first settled on Henry Street. My mother called it South Brooklyn, which always puzzled me. At the time we were living in Bay Ridge which is much further south. I just thought my mom had no sense of direction.
Tom thanks for all your hard work put into these vids! I’ve been watching for quite a while, sorry took so long to leave a comment. Life long NYC-er from Queens, would love to be living on the beautiful Brooklyn coast, Red Hook, Williamsburg , Green Point- move in a heartbeat. The neighbors are so cool they’re hot!! So much history, art, food & the architecture and views are to die for! Thanks again for showing us these neighborhoods the Red Hook video you did a while back, along with so many others, was a lot of fun to watch, I really enjoyed it! Can’t wait to be able to go visit myself! Thanks again! ❤
Well, if you leave, you park in a space near where ever you're going that someone has left empty. Then somebody else will probably park in the space you just emptied, and on and on. I assume most of those street spaces are for residents only. I'm sure parking space on those streets is at a premium. People probably only use their cars if they really need to
I rented 291 Court St. from 1993-97 for $750 a month and paid $850 for 307 Smith where my wife and I ran The Fall Cafe. It’s a glorious place, but probably a bit more pricey now.
Yes! I went to that movie theater 1 million times to watch Karate movies. Wasn't it called Rex Cinema back in the day? I also went to that school right across the street there, very briefly.
The UK was populated by Celtic tribes, who painted themselves with blue paint, wore skins etc.... The Romans described them.....they wrote shocking things about the Irish: Tacitus and Julius Ceasar.
Not to worry, americans pronounce Chipotle Chee-pot-le, instead of Chee-po-tle, and many visitors wonder why Houston is not pronounce like the Texas city! The same goes with Dvorak!
Came for the sick plugs stayed for the history

I know how you feel he’s been to Williamsburg twice and I missed him.😂
Jennie Jerome, the mother of Winston Churchill, was born in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn in 1854
Somehow he missed that tidbit. Thanks for that info.
What a beautiful neighbourhood in Brooklyn. Love the history and your good humor. Thanks Tom 👍👏🙂

i grew up in boreum hill, awesome to see this! grew up on these streets
Great video, Tom!
Tom sick kicks!
Was there last month. Can you explain how parking works? Every space is taken, if you leave are you screwed?

My wife and I just moved from CH to San Diego. Thanks for this, I miss NYC. Del Mar just doesn't hit the same way lol
Hello Tom, do you know the name of the song that you have as your intro? 🙏🏽🤞🏼
Glad to see you are reading Heather Cox Robison’s “ Democracy Awakening “.
As always some interesting facts and stories about NYC and etc.

When are we gonna see you on Netflix Tom?
My favorite neighborhood in NYC ❤️
long time subscriber
Love your vids
So cool
I took my road test there.(way back) It used to be a great, tight knit area. now, I only go to see friends at the bakery, and eat at Marco Polo.
Yes! I went to that movie theater 1 million times to watch Karate movies.
Wasn't it called Rex Cinema back in the day? I also went to that school right across the street there, very briefly.
Went There as a kid. In the 50s, was known as the "Itch".
Made my day again @tomdnyc…. Thank you for your content 😊
Cobbled this together
7:48for those that dont know that is to scrape horse maure off your boots
Yes. I always get a kick out of seeing those left over from horse and buggy days.
Just in case, I found it at around 7:32, at 7:38 he is talking about the church converted into a synagogue! Do not want to get you in trouble!
I'm always going close to this place, through Carroll Gardens, which is very peaceful. Tom is on a forklift. What's next?
ah , ya got me through lock down
Hell ya my born and raised neighborhood
Went on one of those tours of the tunnel of Atlantic and court it was very much a giant tunnel in the ground
I'm old enough to remember the Cafe on Clinton.
Which cafe is that?
Whatta city!
Put out merch for us peasants on teespring or creator-spring please 🙏🙏🙏
Beautiful Neighborhood 😍 🤩 Outstanding Video As Usual 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🌎 😊 🫂 Thanks Tom😊😅

Do people still live in that old house from the 1830s?
Thought you were never coming back
Where's Eric?

C'mon Cam, clean the lenses. 😂

2:20 is that serious? when capitalism eats heritage..as american as it gets 😐

Not to be pedantic, but Aaron Copland is pronounced cope-land.
Not to worry, americans pronounce Chipotle Chee-pot-le, instead of Chee-po-tle, and many visitors wonder why Houston is not pronounce like the Texas city! The same goes with Dvorak!
$3.2 million, 1100 square feet and good luck finding a parking spot.
History was interesting. However, the "tour guide" was rather obnoxious.
The comments are asinine and complicated unnecessary.
Wish he would cut it out with a poor attempts at humor and just tell the history
My opinion of NYC is that it’s a liberal garbage dump.
Maybe you shouldn’t go there then, or watch videos about it.
Maybe the taxes from NYC pay many of the things you get!
