    I do10 days course every year. it is rejuvenating and detoxification and purification. instead of going on holidays or time out

    I feel the sensations in my stomach not my nose and it works just as good for me, I do 1hr anapanasati every day no excuses, a lot of the time in two half hour sits so as to fit in my day.
    Anapanasati is the best thing I have ever done for myself and believe it has saved me from doom!
    Every day is brilliant, zero stress, no worries about past events and no thoughts trying to work out tomorrows problems that may never happen anyway, always in the moment and life is great :)

      @@naavinnaavin9452 Yes, you use anapana to develop that keen, sharp sensation and focus and then you can move onto vipassana. Anapana is akin to sharpening a knife and vipassana is using the knife.

    It's kind of being on holidays to recharge the batteries of body and soul... I did 10 days and going to do the 20 days soon...

    Interesting that the triangle includes the whole nose! I’ve always considered it to be a triangle from the tip of my nose, widening to include nostrils and upper lip. That way it’s easier to make smaller into a point after multiple sits.

      I’m pretty sure he starts the instructions with the whole nose (including the nasal passages), but eventually wants you to reduce to exactly what you mentioned.

    Thank you for your super helpful videos. There are many discussions out there on Vipassana, but none offers such detailed and specific descriptions of the techniques (e.g. on breathing and body scanning) like those in your videos.

      The instructions by Bhante Yuttadhammo are a very detailed and excellent explanation on vipassana meditation. It's not related to Goenka though. It's in the Mahasi Sayadaw tradition.

      Always go for the interview and ask the questions and tell your difficulty while you are already in the center. You will get very good help. Again, go ask the assistannt teacher if you have any doubt or problem.

    I couldn't help but notice how much your depiction of 12 days resembles a standard way of representing arrays in computer science: you depict each day as a square in a sequence of squares and you start counting from zero. Do you happen to have any training in CS? Just curious.
    Btw, thank you for your videos. They are more than instructive and I personally like the way you teach. Would love to see some more of your material.

      There isn’t a prescriptive answer to this. It’s for you to investigate in your experience vs looking for something that someone else might tell you about their experience. That’s part of the larger arc of why this practice is what it is. To see clearly what is happening right now in your experience (vs what you think or believe or would like to happen)

    I can feel the sensation in my nostril when the breath is coming in, but when the breath is going out I am not feeling sensation in the same spot of nostril instead I can feel above my upper lip. My Question is that is it okay to feel sensation in one spot while breathing in and in another spot while breathing out ?

    I jst wnt to ask u this when u r doing anapana meditation do u intentionally inhale and exhale or focus on ur subconscious breath cos I can't do latter part.... My subconsciously inhale and exhale but i dont knw how to feel tht... If I do inhale exhale slowly n focus on tht will tht work...

      It's natural when beginning meditation to feel that, as soon as you start paying attention to the breath, you end up controlling it. That's okay. With time, you'll be able to loosen your grip on that feeling, and be able to breathe more naturally while still paying attention to how you are breathing. Also, Goenka suggests taking a few intentional, forceful breaths if you are unable to feel your breath or are feeling sleepy or sluggish. That's okay too.
      However, anapana is not a breathing exercise, so don't let that turn into a continuous deliberate breath.
      The thing you are trying to cultivate is watchfulness/awareness, with breath as a practice object; not the specific qualities of the breath itself.

      @@MeditationMinutesNet thts wht i m struggling wid like I hv nvr observed my breath so i m getting confused I tried 3 forceful breath in d strt but thn whn i trying to obverse my breath I cnt feel it cos I have stopped.... Do i need inhale and exhale intentionally (not forcefully) to strt this meditation

      @@BoseDkbhag Gotcha. Sometimes it helps to move from gross to subtle. Ie. Start by noticing how your stomach or chest or shoulders moved when you breathe. Once that becomes accessible, then notice it in the throat. Then in the nose, then nostrils, then upper lip.

      ​@@BoseDkbhag Ah. If you are able to notice it but then stop being able to notice it, that is a sign that your attention is getting distracted. That is quite normal. So just keep at it. Usually at home we might sit and try for 5 or 10 or 20 minutes. But at a residential retreat like a Vipassana retreat one ends up practicing for about 10 hrs a day for a few days - so you end up noticing a lot more progress (one of the advantages of doing a retreat). So don't be disheartened. Just keep at it.

    How could you make this video ? Students are not allowed to teach or talk about the technique because it will misguide others and also do them more harm than good - because the effects are very deep and a new student should do this under supervision of a teacher or it can be very dangerous and fatal. For people reading this - please dont try this by yourself even though it looks very simple and harmless.

      You're welcome, Hemant. As you progress along the path, you will or may have realized the deep implications of the technique and the importance of supervision/protected environment. It's okay to illustrate things till anapana but Vipassana is like playing with fire. When a student wrote a book on the technique (after his first course), and brought in hundreds of copies to S. U Thet (teacher of U Ba Khin), he had them all burned. He said "If you play with fire, you will get burned." Also, someone practicing at home without having done a foundation 10 day course will never get the results and that come from first attending a course and then practicing at home.

      Its not a mystical treatment of extreme danger, you are making a fool of yourself to the wiser here and idiots are agreeing with you, anapanasati ( taking note of your breaths ) is all it is, nothing mystical! I have been practicing for years every day and folks like you are after *Money* for teaching, I call it Robbing!!!
