I had this game as a child, but did not have a memory card. it took me nearly 24 hours to do the run, but i beat it. without saving, without game over. It forever sealed my love for incredible difficulty.
I still remember my biggest wrong call in predicting things in gaming was, upon seeing previews of _Ape Escape_ in magazines as a kid, thinking "this thing needs a dual-analogue controller? Wow, it's gonna do terribly! Those dual analogue controllers are just a fad that'll never catch on."

What is Caddy smoking? Crumbling Castle has the best soundtrack in the game. Hell, as a kid when I first played Crumbling Castle I thought it was going to be the final stage solely thanks to the background music.
See, one and two were my favourites. The costume gimmick seemed like a cheap way to keep the gameplay fresh, so I wasn't too keen on three. I also didn't like the new thrown in characters, I liked spike, the second guy was just a spike clone that after beating the game can be replaced by his better, original version. Three's duo cast just didn't sit with me. These problems are minor though and three is still in my top games of all time list with its two predecessors.
yep there was an Ape Escape 2 and 3 both on ps2. 3 is my favorite. It has the best controls imo, they just flow the best for me, with the exception of the camera, but that was an issue with pretty much the entire series so...

Ape Escape was one of the main PS1 games I ever played, sunk so many hours into it, loved it to death, thank you for talking about it, and making a wonderful video too. Also if you were curious, in the American PSP version Spike was voiced by Richard Horvitz, known for playing characters like Invader Zim.
The voice acting for NA and UK versions are bad. They are both bad in their own ways. To be expected considering most games of that era had bad voice acting. But eh, it doesn't change how underrated this game is.

In the US: they had to be more serious with this at the time, causing them to them changing the voice acting to a more teenager audience. In the UK: since Gaming at the time in the UK was still considered children's stuff, causing them to change the voice acting again to fit the needs. Everywhere else: Unknown, I really don't fucking know.

I actually think the US dub is hilarious, especially given that they got the voice actor who played Misty in the Pokemon dub to play the character that looks like Misty. And then in Ape Escape 2, they got Ash's voice actor to play the protagonist. Priceless.
I picked Ape Escape up from a retro game store a few weeks ago, after wanting to replay it for years. To get me in the mood, I typed in "Ape Escape review." Your channel popped up, and I clicked the video. I've been laughing my head off. You, sir, are glorious. SUBSCRIBING!
The best part about Ape Escape is that it didn't halt after one game like many other unique classics. The series continued, and moreover, it continued to improve. Ape Escape 3 for the PS2 is one of my all-time favourite games, for a mix of nostalgia, replay value, and being genuinely fun in a way few other games can match.
It cracks me up that it has two seperate VA sets for US NTSC and UK PAL regions. Not different languages, just different regions for the SAME language.
My little 3 year old niece asked me what I was watching and I told her "Caddicarus" and she responded "Cabwus?".

The PAL versions of every Ape Escape game are dubbed by British voice actors compared to the NTSC versions using American actors.
