I have a 929 and i love it, the differences between the 929 and 954 are so negligable most people cant tell them apart, even people that have or had one or the other.
Got my 2003 954rr for $1250 lol. Started right up. Plastics were a lil banged up and had a bent front rim. Other than that, it just needs valve adjustment
Usually happens under very hard acceleration. Front end actually lifts but not quite all the way and what you get is a deviation of angle for the front tyre vs. the actual direction of travel. So there is a constant fight of the front end trying to right itself whilst barely making contact with the road. Causes an oscillation of the front end between contact and non contact periods. A damper simply applies a force (constantly) on the steering so that it is unable to oscillate (wobble). Mind you.... that pressure is always there... so the steering changes to a much stiffer feel all the time.
Tends to cool down a hair at night, considering a few night time vids over the summer months! Honestly just been too damn hot during the day to get motivated to gear up... sad but true

If you engine rev match right you really shouldn't hear it... and yes I go up and down without the clutch. Great observation! Also...fwiw 49k+ miles on the clutch and transmission....
You have to let off going up and rev match going down. Constant mesh transmissions have all gears always turning so it is very safe to do... but you have to practice the downshifts more than up as you have to get the feel for where you need to get the rpm for the next lower gear. Once you have it down you should barely if at all) notice the throttle blip.
The SC57 rr after 954 does different 1/4 miles because Transmission is different 2006 and 2007.I have and 2006 I rode the 954 it's longer wheel base in 954 and the wind can blow it around the road.I would love a restomod 929 chassis with an Cbr RR-R engine. All 3 blades are about the same in top end and 0 to 60.. but only the 1000rr can be counted on to stay true on uneven roads and that confidence is what makes it a faster bike; even with the extra weight/15hp and 8ftp difference..
Mind you...I stated the 954 (without a damper) suffers under heavy acceleration. I think the HESD system was a fantastic addition on the 600 and 1000rr

I'd still go with the 954.... bit the f4i wasn't a bad bike either. I'd say the 929/954 are more capable and just as light (probably lighter) but all three are good bikes. If the f4i was a steal compared to the others I'd go with it, otherwise you'll likely enjoy the 29 or 54 more in the long run.
@@TheRealRRDemon First of all, thank you very much for your attention. I had a CBR 600 RR 07. Excellent machine. Very capable to accelerate, reliable and very lightweight. Power weight ratio of 1.29 kg for each cv. But here the bikes are very expensive, and I had to go back to the CB 500. It is a very good bike for fun on Sundays, so for those who like to accelerate there is nothing more exciting than the 4 cylinders. Here comes the question ... 600 again or something new? For older machines, I do not see any resists like Honda, so I love CBR. a 929, 954, revolves around 22 to 27 thousand reais, the F4i found an excellent for 20. But as you said, in the long run I may already want a stronger one. Here the first CBR 1000RR 2004 are cheaper than the 954. The 954 because it was different from the others, the staff asks for very expensive. So, I see it's best to get a 1000. But whoever says that the 954 is better than the first 1000, because they are lighter and fun. Already the 1000 2006 forwards are also around 27 thousand. So, I think I'll expect a good deal in a 1000, because here in Brazil the 929 and 954 are little known by the public, few pieces here in the market, since they were only 2 years each. thanks for listening. Hug.
I keep missing your replies somehow! The first couple years (2004-2007) of the 1000RR meant more weight, but a bump in power. They also do not seem to handle the same at the 29 or 54 (though these are harder to find). I would HANDS DOWN take a 929 or 954 over the earliest 1KRR. The fact that they are getting more and more rare (even around me in the States) just makes them more desirable. I considered selling mine as I do not get to ride as much as I want to.. but if I ever wanted another one I know it would take months (if not years) to source another in the same condition as mine... I'd rather save myself the trouble and just keep mine. I did have an '08 600RR that I loved. It handled well, had decent power, and was fairly comfortable. The 600 super sports are still a viable option (even coming off a litre bike!) but they do have their limits for power that most people end up getting bored with.
@@TheRealRRDemon I understand. Used motorcycles are usually rare when they are exactly as we want. And if we sell what we are struggling so hard to find, another battle will begin to look for one. I had only a very new CB 500, then a CBR 600RR 2007, and I had to return to another CB 500 2002. I spent seven months until I found a less round and in great condition, that can stand a stronger joke on the street. They are very fun because they are bicylindrical, very practical, fit perfectly, because I am only 1.80m and 75kg. But as you said, we are always wanting more with smaller bikes. They are the reason, but that is not the way we always want to live. Another fact is that here the cost to get a motorcycle is very high. I would need to work seven months without spending anything to get a 1k or 954 .... so it comes to 600 in mind. But if I had the best 600RR ever, an F4i would soon bore me too. I'm thinking of waiting a year or two, get this 500 that is very good, then jump to 1krr 2007, red, which I think the best package of them, because here the 954 good are the same price of 1krr ... are more heavy but also has more power, as you said ... it should not be so bad this question ... just went around once, could not draw many conclusions. And at 1k I think it's prettier, it's a definite update for me. I love the exhaust under the seat, the fairings, the hydraulic clutch that does not have the flat cable disturbing the panel, finally ... patience I must have, because getting an F4i that here in Brazil only sold for two years (2001-2002) will be hard to sell. There are excellent being sold, but not selling, because here it is not known as in the world, which was and still is a 600 of respect. It would be the best value for money, but to sell and get a 1k should be torturing again. Even if we don't ride the bikes a lot, we don't run out of them anymore ... it must be really bad to want to go out and have nothing in the garage. Thank you brother!
Shoot, not even on a 600 frame... someone pointed out (which I already knew) the 600 in 02 was heavier! Now they are getting considerably harder to find to boot.... not sure I'd want to part with mine... couldn't replace her if I regretted it lol.
I had the CBR954 bike for 5 years & did over 50,000 km on it - the GSXR1000 K6 I replaced it with was objectively better in every way except for underseat storage. The halo'd aura of the last Baba San CBR954 FireBlade is more myth than legend in my view. It is a fine still a fine road bike ridden in isolation without overstepping it's fault lines & if you have not sampled anything superior you will no doubt find it amazing. Maybe the chassis is ok for the track but from my experience of riding this bike hard on Irish roads it's chassis was deeply flawed. The splitframe chassis with swingarm bolted directly to the subframe is not the problem - the real issue is the stupidly soft progressive sprung & badly damped forks, steering rake angle & triple clamp offset which are all bad for today's sporty tyres. For me (100 kg in riding gear) I would bottom out the forks all the time on the brakes with the damping going rock hard from the hydraulic bumpstocks which would then make the rear wheel lift up & wag it's tail into corners leaving you with almost no steering capability until you let off the brakes to unload the forks. That was only half the issue though as due to the extreme steering geometry the front was really nervous also on turn in & tank slapped like a bastard on hard acceleration exits - both of this fundamental flaws made the bike really unbalanced from front to rear so you had to gain more from corner exit over pushing the front end. The only real (partial) solution was heavier linear forks springs (0.95 from memory), heavier fork oil to increase damping rate, increased preload to give the forks more braking dive resistance, dropping the triple clamps on the forks to regain lost steering angle from the increased front ride height from the stiffer springs & more preload - that was just to make the bike brake & steer somewhat acceptably again. To be honest though the best way to hide the steering flaws was to use a round shape from tyre over a triangular shape. The bike was dangerous to ride on Michelin Pilot Powers it was so nervous on the front but felt normal & secure on a rounder profile Dunlop D208s for example. Bottom line is I've had more tankslaps, headshakes, sphincter moments, tailwags, fork bottom outs, & front end wobbles on this bike than all my other bike combined. It's is defined by the tyres you you put on it more than any other bike I've ever ridden. Fuel 'economy' is atrocious too as standard & a even basic fuel map will get you another 50km tank range while clean out & linearisiing the part throttle response.
@@Rick-vy3li I don't know mate - that was over a decade ago for me. Read some me of my other posts in this thread for context. I'd suggest something road orientated over pure hypersports tyres. I use Michelun Pilot Road 4/5 for example
Tldr.... but I also changed the front form internals for me weight and adjusted from there. I can agree the '54 can suffer on the road a bit.... but even with the harsh ride it is just so fun
Agree with your analysis which is exactly why i chose the 954. The info I have is 0-60 the 954 is slightly quicker but 929 is slightly quicker in quarter mile (10.1 vs 10.3). Not sure why, given that 954 is lighter and has more power but probably something in the gearing ratios. Add a power commander and exhaust and 954 easily keeps up with todays litre bikes.
Good to see you knocking around still >=] Always thought the 29 being a touch faster was odd given 10 extra pounds and 4hp less.... must've stuck a chubber on the 54 for the quarter times!
gearing. 954 is a top end monster dont get me wrong 1-3 gears aren't slow but she opens up 60 mph plus and not sure if the map is different or the HTEV. I'm assuming the map is. They both have the htev but are they identical in function? Idk. I had a 929 for a few months now I ride a 03 954. They are different bikes. In speed, handling, response.
@juicy9592 954 was fun on the open road. The 929 was better in the city. Personally, I like the looks of the 54 better. The 54 would be perfect if you could successfully get rid of the servo air box garbage. I disabled, removed ,replaced, and did all the alternatives, and the bike does not function well without it. I suppose if you replaced everything from the intake to the fuel system, basically everything that is designed to use the system, you might get it dialed in I wasn't willing to spend thousands more when you can learn to just appreciate the lagging and hesitation in the low rpms.
@@LibelLinus304a oowercommander would fix that probably. I have a 00 929rr with akro full ex and oowercommander. Runs beautiful. 142 pk on dyno thats about 140hp. Im not getting the gxr and will keep my 929rr for as long as i can. Honda makes such quality its amazing. What a difference. Thanks for the reply
I was surprised the 954 has 2 more horsepower and 2 less ftlbs of torque than the 929 but also ways a good deal less which makes no sense to me you would think the 929 would be lighter and have less torque
Definitely something I am looking into doing, had something else I wanted to fall into place first... doesn't look like it is going to happen. I'll start sourcing a reliable/trustworthy shop that can run a good dyno and ensure a smooth tune.
Here in Brazil the 929 costs in the range of 20,000 reais. Already the 954 varies a lot, from 23,000 upwards. Considering the large price difference, will I be happy and pleased with the 929, or better to wait longer and definitely stick with a 954? I like them both, but the fact that 954 is the most refined makes me think that if I take 929, I'll keep looking at 954. The issue of the larger bore of the 955 engine and pistons and other different parts affect durability will be? In some forums they talk about whether the 929 engine is better ... but I don't know how far. The space under the seat is almost the same, and at 954 already satisfies me, and yet to open is very easy, the lock is already there, not down on the plate. Small details that pose doubts. What do you think? can you be happy with anyone? Perhaps it is best to find the nearest and most complete ...... thanks in advance hug
Both are very good bikes. The 954 did get a bit more refinement, but not to the point a casual rider would likely notice. But, if it is the 954rr that has your heart... better to save the extra, wait a bit longer to source one, and get what you really want the first time. For what it's worth I think the 954 looks better than the 929.
@@TheRealRRDemon Yes Many thanks for the reply! It's good to discuss these things, because then I can think better and not buy something that I will soon want to let go ... 954 was unanimous in my head, but the difficulty of finding a good one at high prices made me look at 929 ... oddly enough, it seems that the brain shapes our needs, which we have even admired beyond. .. I am currently oscillating, I prefer the 954 because it is the last, the best, most fucking .... still current the design ... led flashlight behind, very short and say that is too much fun. Already the 929 I find myself looking at the rear more robust and lower, with more space ... up the front liking, it seems that is more robust, strong ... I can not explain ... remember the 919 still just going through a diet... But I'll have to choose ... and I think I'll go in the best deal that comes up, in a matter of distance, conservation, as it has run, the most conserved should be the choice for these classics. I don't think there's a chasm between them, it's looking for what we really want ...
If you ride the street the '51 is NOT a comfortable machine. This coming from a guy who has only ever ridden super sports. It definitely performs but the comfort was too much of a compromise to me
..... can't disagree there. The amazing part was the 954 was designed for the street and not necessarily for the track. I think my max ride was about 270 miles in one day..... painful as it was fun

In all fairness... we probably all like our bike the best.. but weight and hp makes the 954rr better than the early 1krr... but only the earliest could years (imo)
Definitely better looking bike then the 954 Basically the same bike just a little difference in the Fairings but me I like the 929rr my opinion tho they feel the exact same riding them shit put a different Exhaust system on the 929 and you drop 15 pounds then it's lighter then the 954rr.

Thank you brother!
the 4i would be better in the twisties, otherwise 954 for cruising.
954 for dayz, got a 03 yellow black one
What's not to love? Still a relevant design, amazing weight, and still decent power considering.
The Real RRDemon its a 954cc engine on a 600cc frame :) love mine, i get looks all the time
Shoot, not even on a 600 frame... someone pointed out (which I already knew) the 600 in 02 was heavier!
What's the better tires for the 954??
@@Rick-vy3li I don't know mate - that was over a decade ago for me. Read some me of my other posts in this thread for context. I'd suggest something road orientated over pure hypersports tyres. I use Michelun Pilot Road 4/5 for example
Tldr.... but I also changed the front form internals for me weight and adjusted from there. I can agree the '54 can suffer on the road a bit.... but even with the harsh ride it is just so fun
Great review
Your engine light is on
Have the intake flapper valve and exhaust servo off.... will trigger the FI light
I found a 954 with 40.000 km.. Those km are many for that bike?
Not if the price is reasonable. I was over 49,000 miles
Good to see you knocking around still >=]
Always thought the 29 being a touch faster was odd given 10 extra pounds and 4hp less.... must've stuck a chubber on the 54 for the quarter times!
@@LibelLinus304which one was.better
@juicy9592 954 was fun on the open road. The 929 was better in the city. Personally, I like the looks of the 54 better. The 54 would be perfect if you could successfully get rid of the servo air box garbage. I disabled, removed ,replaced, and did all the alternatives, and the bike does not function well without it. I suppose if you replaced everything from the intake to the fuel system, basically everything that is designed to use the system, you might get it dialed in
I wasn't willing to spend thousands more when you can learn to just appreciate the lagging and hesitation in the low rpms.
@@LibelLinus304a oowercommander would fix that probably. I have a 00 929rr with akro full ex and oowercommander. Runs beautiful. 142 pk on dyno thats about 140hp. Lost my license last Friday im afraid. I got caught with 190kph. I hope ill get it back in the summer❤. I like the looks also slightly better in the 954. But i love the bleu red white hrc colorsceme on my sc44 slightly better also. Haha i probably will get a white and dark blue 954 extra ❤ or black front with yellow. Or red so hard to choose haha. I did a test drive on a k4 1000gxr it was amazing. That engine is pure gold. It had around 14k miles. And all the bolts , chaintensioner etc was all corroded. at that moment i realiZed.
I wouldnt expect the 929 to be lighted, but tjos power numbers are odd
I think the 919 was carbureted and 929/954 were fuel injected, people say that it affected accelaration
Yes the 919 was a carb machine vs the pgmfi of the '29 and '54. FI is almost always better me thinks.
footage suggestion: Dyno the 954 ..and zoom in on all the actual Powerband footage....
@@TheRealRRDemon
Yes Many thanks for the reply!
I want an older one to build here to learn
I started really learning with an old kz400 I picked up for super cheap. It is a great way to tinker and learn without costing a lot if you mess up.
I thought the 1000rr was only 150-155 hp. I don't ever remember them being 170 hp.
170 at the crank.... take off any 15% at the wheel (approximate)
954 allways I got one doesn’t run but I got one lmao
Lmao... get her up and going!
@@TheRealRRDemon my longest ride on my CBR954RR was appx 500 miles in one day. Never again...lmao.
Ouch..... how many days after until you could walk???!!!??
Nice. Vid bud from the uk
Great vlog keep it up 👍
What' the oil used for the 929?
I assume 10w40 like the 954. I use Honda HP4 or Repsol 10w40
10w50
Interesting it uses different oil given it is the same engine. But I've never checked the intended oil on the 929
Amzoil 10W40 is the best oil for any super sport bike.. I a from the 🇺🇸 and it's the very best bro.
Mine does 90mph in 1st gear
I think I was around 80mph
.. but don't remember my gearing at the time that is triggering that thought
Because I'm bias the 929 was my very first bike. Still can't be at the 929 choppy idle and burley sound imo. 954 comes in a happy second.
A little bias... but still a fantastic blade that (stock) claimed better 1/4mi times than the 954....
People use to roast me for saying beautimus😭
Absolutely valid word...
Have you been smoking something I’m only a race technician so
I no nothing apart from running race teams pit crews and building these bikes
the cbr1000RR was in a different league I could spend the next hour explaining it to you
but you’d probably be no wiser because you like your bike best.
And there nothing wrong with that.
But it doesn’t make right.
Hey I appreciate a good rant myself.
In all fairness... we probably all like our bike the best.. but weight and hp makes the 954rr better than the early 1krr... but only the earliest could years (imo)
The 929 stock is 135 HP
Factory specs claimed 128(ish), if I recall correctly, at the wheel
Sorry, on the '54
929 = 2.8 / 0-60
Same for 954
About the same on 954... but the '29 actuality was supposedly a touch quicker...
12:51 yeah no, dont film that for youtube lmao
I will have to look at the video to see what you are looking at... I'll get bab to you
929rr hANDS DOWN
Either the 29 or 54 for me... they are so close in specs. Both ride great, I just think the 54 looks a little better/more aggressive
Definitely better looking bike then the 954 Basically the same bike just a little difference in the Fairings but me I like the 929rr my opinion tho they feel the exact same riding them shit put a different Exhaust system on the 929 and you drop 15 pounds then it's lighter then the 954rr.
I have the 929 and it's a Machine, I prefer it over the 2014 r1 I have ,it light as fuck and so responsive. It also weighs 155kgs now , she cranks
954 allways I got one doesn’t run but I got one lmao
Just got a 1000rr but it also doesnt run 😂
Ppl and their broke bikes lmao
