Thanks! This is one of the games that just solidifies my interest in this hobby. I love introducing it to others and getting into the theme. Glad you enjoyed the video. Do you like Scythe, too?
I've never played Scythe yet, but I do have a game I feel just as passionate about, and a hobby within the hobby, akin to painting, that I have pride in. My passion: Eldritch Horror. My hobby within the hobby: designing foam core inserts. Board gaming is such a great hobby!
@Ehngel Love this. As you can tell from Brad's comment, I also like making foam core inserts and finding better storage solutions for games. Weirdly, I've not made one for EH, yet. I should do that and then bring EH to Brad and my game group. Currently, I'm making an insert for Lords of Waterdeep/Skullport, AH:LCG, Elder Sign, and Spirit Island. I should have showed off my foam core inserts for Scythe, in each of the tuck boxes, in this video.
@@BadatBoardgames That's awesome! I find immense pleasure in organizing a game and making it easier to set up. I've made multiple EH inserts, due to expansions, until I finally caved and bought everything just so I can make 1 final insert; the game is now stored in 3 big boxes. I would be interested if you showed off your inserts on the channel. Not enough custom foam core designs shared on UA-cam channels
Your passion for Scythe shows 😀 Love the quality of your video and the job you did on the minis (impressive you finished them ALL) and as a Scythe psycho myself I relate to all you say 😅
Glad to know someone else shares my passion (albeit psychotic and obsessive?) for Scythe! Also glad you enjoy the video. I need to pull this off the shelf soon. Unfortunately, Brad's not a huge fan, we often play new games to explore, review, and enjoy, and there are too many games between those in our gaming group to allow us to pull older favorites off the shelf regularly (first-world problems... Wow, this comment makes me come across so entitled). But Scythe is just a fantastic game.
It's such a great game! I hope you get to play it soon. Thanks for the comment. I was so nervous to do it, but glad I finally did. I'm quite pleased with how they turned out.
I would jump on it for $47! I'd say that's a 4.5 value. While 2 is not my favorite player count, it plays fantastic at 1 and is still quite enjoyable at 2--you just don't see as much direct conflict (either combat, area control, or "cold war" feels). Once you start to get the hang of the automa for solo play, you can even add the automa into a 2 player game. I know of some people who do that in order to make their 2 player games have a little more conflict. Hope you can pick it up and really hope you enjoy the game!
I've owned Scythe since 2016, and fully upgraded it, but the game had remained unplayed until yesterday. My girl and I played it in preperation for introducing it to 2 friends getting into the hobby who want something more complex than Pandemic. First, we really liked the game. Second, this will not be our friends' second designer game experience. Even though mastering the player tableau is the only tricky part, there are too many moving parts for players accustomed to Monopoly. This will make a better 3rd or 4th game. I rank the game an 8/10. :)
You are wise in your analysis. The game is not overly complex, but that is relative, right? For a casual gamer into the hobby, they'll be able to pick up Scythe relatively easily. But, if this is someone just entering the hobby, this wouldn't be where any of us would want to start. The good news, this gives them (and you and your partner) something to work towards. I would even tease it to my friends that way. I often find that I can teach Scythe to new players by referencing other games they're familiar with. Action selection akin to Villainous. Building like Catan. Movement like Pandemic. Resource management like Catan. Etc. I also never start newer players with the expansions. I hope you and your friends get some good gaming in. Excited to hear about their experience with Scythe after they work up to it! Glad you like it!
100 agree on the $400 startling price tag. I'd pass, too, at the all-in. I'd still recommend starting with the base game if you think the mechanics, etc, are of interest to you. It's a fantastic game, even just the base game. You may bever want or need the expansions. Good news is that I've been finding it on sale often lately, from between $40 and $60 in the US, both online and even, once, in a Barnes and Nobles (never usually have sales like that near me). You might also see if a FLGS near you has a copy to demo in the store. Now I want to play a game of Scythe!
You're passion and enthusiasm for this game really shows. It was a pleasure to watch. Thanks for sharing!

You did an amazing job painting the figures. I just bought a beginner's painting kit. I aspire to have your skill someday. :)
Thank you, Susan! I'm fully confident you'll do an amazing job! Can't wait to see your minis. Enjoy it.

I haven't played Scythe but I want to. It is on my gaming wish list. Great job on the painting.

Great job. Scythe is my favorite game!
Thanks, Nick! Sounds like you have good taste in board games.
How's the value rating if the base game is $47 (on sale at Amazon now) and I would primarily play 1-2 players? :)

The game just moved in here, because it catched me with the artwork, minies, theme,... looking forward to put it on the table 👍☺️
I can't wait to hear your experience playing it. Keep us posted! Remember, you can't do it all. Have fun!

Top 5 games of all time. Period. Modular board is VERY interesting once you get everything else played a few times!
It definitely randomizes things and makes it more of a challenge, right? Glad to know we both have it in our top 5 games.
@@BadatBoardgames ❤ painted mine as well, except for Fenris. That’s next! What about the realistic workers and other bits on Etsy? 🙃
Cool game but you talked me out of it at $400, other things I would rather buy with that money.

So, it's the artwork. But it sells... The game mechanics are kind a boring.
