dang Pete that intro was so awesome
Just bought this pedal couple weeks ago....and the preamp section is always on now it just sounds alot richer :). It's pretty subtle on demos but your tone sounds so alive when u turn it on. Great demo Pete! It ain't that cheap but it is considering I got rid of other combinations of pedals as my main basic guitar tone. Awesome w an overdrive pedal after it too :)
A "magic better button". :-)
I got the impression you really liked this one.
That new Suhr is stunning too. Nice to get these videos back, missed them while you were in Japan.
Great Demo! You really explained this pedal in detail. Probably a great studio tool.
best explanation so far! Awesome pedal!
Dude, i think you make any pedal sound good.
You had me at the intro, wicked riff!
Great tune. Sounds really cool.
Great demo, Pete!
Man, that Suhr humbucker guitar sounds amazing, as usual your playing is spot on, another great vid Pete ;-)
I do love the guitar! It's awesome. Plays and sounds great!
You are such an education Pete!
Hey Pete, did you run your bass track through the PreDrive in this video? The PreDrive does great things for bass tone as well. I know of one individual who ran their violin through the PreDrive to add more articulation to their tone in a recent gig. Thanks for the video!
Hi Pete my name is Robert ime from flint mich my friend is another guitarist showed me your website I like it you explain things well you have great tone I play through a Jcm 800 lead series mark2 threw a 4/12 sheffield speakers peavey cabinet and using Black arts pharoah fuzz its sound but ime gonna add more pedals to arsenal especially found Egyptian, classical blues rock metal brown sound but finding right pedals is one of my Goals.
To my ear, the sound enhancement and controls are very similar to that of the Origin Effects cali76 compressor with the transformer option. Running at 18V the transformer is shaping the tone even with the compressor off. If I never use compression again, it will never be out of my signal path.
Pete, Sounds like the Predrive adds quite a bit of compression. Would you say it's a compressor with tone shaping ability and some extra gain?
You remind me of George lynch I met before talk to him a few time I was at guitar clinic.
John Petty Standard Predrive Preampé indicated use with a tube amp, for example, Vox AC30 C2?
Why did they bother putting a bypass switch on it? Leave it on dude!
Excellent demo vid and really cool tune - as always! Love watching your videos! Hey, side question - what are the chances of you starting up your online lessons again? Keep rockin!!
- Dave
I'm beginning to hear that I'm a Vox guy by heart. Just wish those handwired editions had an effects loop.
What guitar is that btw? It almost sounds like a single coil? Does it have a push/pull? Looks and sounds killer!
Hi Pete! Do you think the BBE Sonic Maximizer can be thaught of as a budget friendly version of predrive to put the blanket off the speakers and give more clarity and definition? What about a good parametric EQ pedal like empress paraeq pedal? Massive thanks for advice!
How does this compares with The Distillery pedal by Tone Concepts??
Hi Pete,
If you had to choose one pedal, which would be your choice between the Pettyjohn Predrive and the Pettyjohn Filter EQ Pedal?
i was wondering how your black suhr guitar compares to a tom anderson cobra i have the cobra and have been considering putting your signiture pickups in it thanks
Quite similar woods on the cobra I think? So, probably similar with my pickups installed
Guess Pete has a new favorite geetar :D
what kind of pickups in the new suhr? sound great!!
Hi guys!
Who knows the dimensions of the pedal?
I have been unable to find the information...
Hey Pete, thanks for the demo. I know this is a pedal demo but that guitar looks and sounds awesome. Where could I get that one? :)
It's a Suhr, you could custom order one to this spec!
any chance I could know the specs of this one? just for future reference. I am really amazed by the looks and sound of it. You have a great taste in guitars man :D
That first lick is MONEY!!!! Love it!!! How would this pedal sound with all my dirt and fuzz pedals into it sound? Would it work that way as a always on buffer and EQ?? Thanks if you have time.
You'd have to try, I think this pedal would probably be best early in the chain but it may work later too
i have a cali76, and a shiba drive, i want a petty john predrive for the clean boost and preamp, will this take away from iver of those other 2 pedals?
Ky Fisher buy a kingsley page pedal. or a two button kingsley tube pedal. much better than this imo
Ky Fisher i recently received my cali 76. I can hear a bit of noise sometimes like an old gramaphone when I play and attack is above 50%. is it normal?
Bio NLP Hi 😊 Kingsley makes great stuff! Have you tried the two in comparison?
@@Esbenmad I'm late to the party, but I have both a Kingsley Custom Jester V2 with Sizzle mod and 3 Pettyjohn pedals. The Pettydrive Deluxe (Iron/Fender and Chime/Vox), Gold/Marshall V1 and Lift V1 (which is the son of the Predrive, buffer, boost and EQ).
They are in the same ballpark. The Kingsley is a better sounding drive because of the tubes, but the Dual Discreet 990 op-amp in 2 of my 3 Pettyjohn pedals, and the Burr Brown in the Gold V1, all running on 36V internally, is definitely a special experience. And the EQs on the Pettyjohn pedals and the way they all stack together make for their biggest strengths imho. Hope you found some of my experiences insightful. Cheers.
I'm really interested in this but quite frankly there is such a minimal amount of difference on some of the settings from clean to boost & what not I'm not sure what to think now. I really like Pete & his work but I'm not sure this is doing the pedal justice. Or the pedal is just so subtle it is hard to tell. I have a great speaker sys here so I have well cranked. At 600 I'm not seeing it here.
greatvanzinni Ok there towards the end I clearly hear the difference. Reminds me of my Empress boost.
greatvanzinni It's a pretty subtle pedal. Like a "Tone Polisher" :) Try one, you'll see what I mean
Pete Thorn Well I'm just a few mile down the road from them so maybe I will.
pete what ribbon mic r u using ???
Is the boost independent?
Yes
I hate to be that guy that says first, but, FIRST!!!, haha great video dude, sounds great.
You get a Hero Biscuit!
ArgentPure mmmmm
Subtile differences in sound imo.
Are you high?
