As far as I'm aware, this is the ONLY video showing how to remove the fairings/oil change on a 2nd gen busa. Thank you! I hate trying to take them off without knowing what has a pull tab, slide tab, or a pin/bolt.

This is the single best video EVER made to show us busa owners how to do our oil changes like a pro. From start to finish you have explained it like no one else. Wow greatly appreciate this
To prime the oil pump, never start it with a dry filter. Prime the motor by holding the throttle at 100% to initiate "flood clear fuel shutoff mode." Crank it for 10 seconds. Then release the starter, close the throttle and it will start up with instant oil pressure. Do not try to "prime" the engine unless you have it at 100% fully wide open or it could accidentally start. It needs to be at 100% to activate flood clear mode. Do at least 10 seconds. Your oil light may or may not shut off, but the pump will be primed. Flood clear mode shuts off 100% of the fuel to the injectors so you can't ruin your engine. This also works on all fuel injected cars. Motul 7100 and 300V oils seem to work the best, they don't tick, they shift good and also seem to have less windage pumping losses than Amsoil and Mobil.
To prevent oil spilling just put tinfoil over your header pipes and make a dam under the oil filter so when you unscrew it, the oil runs down the foil, into a pan. No need to replace the drain bolt crush washer it won't leak, and replacing it can damage the threads. You can put a tiny wisp of liquid Teflon paste on the aluminum crush washer (not on the threads) and it will seal 100% even if badly worn.
This was, IMO, one of the most straight-to-the-point and complete how-to videos on youtube. Great work. I pulled my brand new Busa out of the crate back in 2009. Still runs like a champ!

Thank you for the video. I finally got my long awaited Hayabusa, been wanting one for years. Originally I wanted a first gen but after looking for over a year I just couldn't find one that was what I was after. I wanted a virgin bike that was just like it came from the factory but from what I've seen out there, few and far between. I found a completely stock 2012 with only 11,000 miles and very well maintained. After working on it all thru the winter and spending way more than I could have bought a brand new 2022 model I finally have my dream vision Hayabusa. It's got tons of performance mods, lots of mechanical upgrades, including all new braided stainless steel brake lines, all new radiator hoses, brand new Brembo rotors and calipers on both ends, Brock's performance alien 2 exhaust, trick wheels, exstended swingarm, different handlebars, all LED lighting, and the coolest part of all, a really tricked out custom paint job to make it different than anything out there. She's basically a brand new bike. I've spent the last two weeks putting it back together but what a pain! It's been torn down to nothing, just a bare frame with an engine in it, even the forks were removed and rebuilt. The point I'm trying to say is, I'm so very thankful for your channel and others like it because after being apart for so long I need all the help I can get to make sure she goes back together without any scratches or broken parts. I'm down to installing the left and right sides of the fairing and I been scouring the internet looking for helpful reminders of how it goes back together. It's people like you who are generous with their time and knowledge and kind enough to make videos to help people like me who just want to do as much of my dream build as I can without completely losing my mind from worry of it going back together exactly the way it's supposed to.

Also, a word of advice. When you're buying a new oil filter, make sure what your buying is actually in the box. I've bought a K&N. Didn't check it until I got home...only to find out my $15 K&N was a $5 Fram.

Very descriptive video! I would use 5w40 Rotella T6 synthetic. Busa gets HOT and synthetic helps.

I've been a mechanic since I was 11. And I have studied engines for thousands of hours (thousands). And yet, I'm totally confounded by all the different oil choices, filter choices, and oil myths. There are so many variables, and so many different formulations of oil, that the process of selecting oil is mostly a mind f*ck. I ran Mobil 1 full synthetic car oil, 10-30w in my ZX-6R for 10,000 miles, right after a short break in. And the engine and clutch sounded and felt exactly the same (not even a slight increase in the sound of the valve lash) after 10,000 miles. I'm highly skeptical of "motorcycle oil." Because they admit that they remove some of the lubricity of the oil in order to make the clutch stronger. I'd rather have a bad clutch than a bad rod bearing. Brock uses 0 weight oil in a Hayabusa with over 200 Dyno pulls at WOT. Nobody really knows what the best oil is at this point, although there are more theories about it than any other thing.
I had the boutique Motul Green stuff in my old Gen1 yosh cammed Busa and it smoked at WOT and it would burn off/get low/refill....swapped to cheapo(by comparison) Shell full synth Rotella T6 40w from Walmart and also run it in my cars. Its JASO MC rated and clutch feels same w it..No more smoke w it or burn off. Ran it in my K6 gsxr1K also...Subaru Sti loves it. Oil doesnt burn off its spec'd for latest Diesels w super high compression. I run the 30wt version slecial ordered from Oreillys in my new 4Runner. Will be using 40w in my low mileage G2 Busa just got. Cheap, available, proven awesome oil. Ive spent many hours on oil forums and Blackstone labs rates it very good. Its so cheap bc it was designed for diesel fleets and its the most common synthetic on market. High Price doesnt mean highest quality(Motul lol)

Question. Do i need that bike lift to change the oil
Thanks for checking out the video! No you don't need a lift/stand to change the oil. The stand saves you from having to rock the bike back and forth after draining the oil to make sure it all gets out. After you drain the oil I would make the bike level to make sure as much of the old oil drains out. Other than that you want to make sure you can check the oil level when you are done to get an accurate reading. It's easier on the stand than having to lean the bike over and trying to look at the sight glass at the same time.

I did this procedure. What amazed me is that there is no crush washer on the drain plug in my bike. Is it normal? Did you have a washer on the plug?
On mine i did have a crush washer. However, if it didn't leak before a crush washer, then I wouldn't worry about it.

box1u I personally have always done the left side fairing as I’m left handed and it’s easier to work on i my from that side so I’ve never tried the right side. I’m sure you could do it tho. One other thing is that if you don’t plan in changing your filter, you don’t have to take off any fairings. Just drain the plug and refill. Even the manual says you don’t have to change the filter after an oil change. But many others will tell you if your changing the oil, take the time to do the filter. Choice is yours

Found this video after I got my fairings off and changed the oil...could have used the aluminum foil trick. Now I'm sitting here letting the oil burn off before I put my faring back on...

Do you measure oil on the kickstand or have someone hold the bike upright?
Either hold it upright or use a rear stand to keep the bike level.
Nobody will tell you this. The best oil is 300V or 7100 Motul, don't use Amsoil Metric because it loses its viscosity when the Hayabusa is idling for long periods and you'll hear the Amsoil tick loudly. The Motul is silent and you'll notice immediately more top end revvs from the Motul 7100. Mobil 1 motorcycle oil causes a 5 horsepower or more loss at the top end, causing seriously noticeable "windage" pumping losses on a 2nd Generation bike. To prime your oil, just hold the throttle 100% open, not 80%, but fully open, and then crank the engine, and it won't start in "flood clear mode" while the throttle is fully open.
Those exhaust headers look like the Redback ones I fitted to my Hayabusa?

You can do it with only the kick stand. The only bad thing is that you won't be able to see the oil level accurately thru the sight sight glass since the bike is on the kickstand. you will have to hold the bike up some how while trying to look thru the glass. But you can do it.

My wife has a 2018 busa and we did the first oil change and it was a fucking nightmare. Why did Suzuki make it so much work to change the oil on the bike.
I have a 2018 ZX-14R and everything for an oil change is done without removing any fairing or bolt. Once the filter is removed the oil just drips down and away from any parts. The busa pours on all over the manifold.

i like to spank that arse with the r when i see a busa out on the street,(Kidding) i cant tell much seat of the pants difference between the two bikes.ive got a 2012 bus that is my first what i call real bike(still is in my opinion) i just cant see ever selling it its been rock solid reliable and always puts a smile on your face:) both bikes have way more power than i will ever need or use. i still cringe though when i take the ferring off for maintnance even though i have done it several times now, you just have to get in there and take a chance of breaking it or pay the dealer forever(no thanks)go slow its not so bad after a couple times.
