Given what we now know about this musical, this song is a wonderful illustration of the resilient nature of the cast and what they have had to go through. “You can take it in a flash, you can burn it down to ash, and out of ash will grow!”
I remember seeing the colour purple with Cynthia Erivo. She got a standing ovation mid show when I saw it..... This is on par, if not more impressing. Absolutely incredible abilities here - Acting incredible, singing just as good. Dear lord, just amazing
That Tony performance was just as powerful. Who cares if she was bit pitchy, it shows the emotion she was projecting into that song and damn, she did it justice.
I saw this in Chicago, and this scene got everyone in the crowd clapping. It was so emotional, and I am upset that it closed due to financial problems. It was the only show last year that debuted on broadway and I was looking to see it again. I was so happy that I got to see it in 2021.
They did recorded an album, but due the legal issues the production has been through it wasn't released. Anyway they did release Let it Burn as a single.
Unfortunately it probably never will. The show closed on Broadway and the producer (allegedly) didn't pay people's benefits and there are allegations of unsafe work conditions too. There's several lawsuits. It's such a shame, saw the play and it was famominal.

They are powerful lyrics. It was a super political musical. I love this performance.
Incredible performance. Breathtaking. Powerful. What a voice and what a presence.
I think it's "out of ash *we'll* grow"...makes more sense.
Bring this back to BROADWAY!!!
