Yeah, majority of shootings are in Baltimore. The rundown cities in Maryland.. Where I am at. We don't have that. If they want the gun violence to stop. They should clean up the streets of Baltimore. This law does nothing to the ones that get their firearms on the street without background checks or anything. Just makes it more expensive for me and you. I can't afford to do that stupid conceal and carry class. I can't wait to move out of Maryland.
The white guy is right that bill does not address the problem in the city. It’s a Band-Aid for some whining people that just want to see something done about guns or shall I see the gun law. For those advocating for 'common sense gun control', here's some common sense: 1) People who are willing to jump through all the hoops necessary to obtain a Maryland Wear and Carry Permit... which includes 16 hours of training in the law and the responsibilities of an armed citizen, a thorough background check, fingerprinting, shooting a qualification to demonstrate the safe and proficient use of a firearm, waiting a minimum of 10 weeks, and paying out over $500 for training, fingerprints, permit fees, etc... are DEFINITELY NOT the people who commit violent crimes. These are the people who might just save your life one day. 2) You don't need a permit to carry a firearm on your property or someone else's property with their permission. You never did. 3)It was always illegal to carry in a government building (courthouse, public school) permit or no permit. 4) A criminal is someone who lives in disregard of the law. SB-1 will only impact law-abiding citizens... or create prosecutions against people who have broken the law without any nefarious intent (not looking to rob a liquor store, just carrying for personal protection). 5) My Wear and Carry permit states, "Restrictions: None". How can the state make someone pay for a permit to do something, then make it a crime to do that something? 6) "Wear and Carry" has now become concealed carry only... and it's now a crime if people can see the imprint of a gun in your clothes. Really? When issued, the permit was for open OR concealed carry. 7) Even if all the restrictions pass (after 3-5 years in court) I would bet most of us will ignore them. I will probably carry anyway... just like I did before I was able to get a permit... but I'll just be more concerned with deep concealment. How many of you would take a chance on catching a misdemeanor charge to protect yourself and your family? I did before, and I probably will again. No one is advocating getting rid of all laws, but how about enforcing the existing laws instead of writing new ones that solve nothing? I think the point people miss is this... It has been illegal since the 70s in DC and the 80s in Chicago to own a handgun, but these are places where people are shot with handguns daily. Begging the question, did banning handguns solve the problem? Answer being no, it did not. It only disarmed those who obey the law. I live out in the country. We don't have crimes like 'home invasion' here because kicking in someone's door here would be a really really BAD IDEA.
