So cool you played in all those places epic
The Viper Room used to kick ass back in the day wow thanks 80s life😢
Awesome; my cousin has rented an apt directly across from the Viper Room for the last 20+ yrs, 4th (top) floor of the building w/ incredible views of the Strip from the rooftop. Reminiscent of the visits there, great location walking distance to everything nearby. Thank you for the tour!
Does he rent out to tourists by any chance lol 😅
Thank you Dad for introducing the Bean Burrito *Holds a FIST In the Air!*
Yes! This is going to be epic
Awesome! I love this video! It brought back so many great memories for me of growing up in L.A. and going to these clubs. In high school, my friends and I managed to get into Gazzari's and get served beers. Business must have been slow that night because they didn't bother to really check our IDs. We bragged about that forever. A few years later, I saw a guy I grew up with sharing his personal supply with a pretty popular local band in the bathroom upstairs way in the back. Crazy night that was. I remember standing about two feet away from Bill Gazzarri near the front door and thinking that he didn't look real. He looked more like a ghost of a character from a 1940s mobster movie. Just a striking presence that is still vivid all these years later. A few years later I was home from college and went to the Roxy to try to get into the Smithereens show but we got pounced on by two plain clothes cops who pulled up and jumped out of their car when then saw me and a buddy buy tickets from a scalper. They busted the scalper but they let us keep the tickets which we couldn't believe. It was a great show. I think I still have the setlist. I am huge fan of yours and I love all your videos, especially Valley stuff and L.A. stuff and the great movie locations videos too!
WOW. Killer Drone shots....
Good to see Big Mike and our shared first and always love for a bean burrito
Wow, this brought me back. I used to work at Tower video in the early 2000s. I loved that Greek place too. They also made great chicken soup for when you were sick.
just a bad ass video thank you for the great history
Badass 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thanks to that guy for letting you in and telling you everything about it, really cool bro
Another amazing video, Kurt! Thank you for taking me along!
Good video
Awesome video. Soo much History in those places. Great stuff dude. ❤
Awesome video....and the bean burrito is the best!!!
Gotta love sunset
Absolutely!
Great job!! This is one of my favorite Vlogs that you've done.
I bought Staind Dysfunction at the old Tower Records on Sunset back in 2000….I have a picture of it. There was a billboard for the 1981 film Heavy Metal in the parking lot.
Hi 80's guy, I love your videos I m from Australia an I m very interested in history of LA an filming locations. I love watching old LA videos from early days of LA to present, I would love to see a video from you , comparing old LA to today's, from your views on what's change.
Love the Van Halenesqe intro!
Omg I love Scott also. I never ever miss a video from him or you!
It's an Honor Know Mike and Mario, as well as booking Bands at All the Clubs on the Sunset Strip!!!
Awesome some video. So much history in those places!!🤘🤘
Awesome video man. I'm a fan
There is quite a difference between the acts that used to play these clubs in the past and what is currently getting booked there.
Music in the end of the 1990s and beginning of the 2000s was a strange time for rock, especially watching MTV and college radio shift focus.
My friend Jim Durkin (R.I.P.) of Dark Angel used to pass out flyers at that same spot in the early 80's to promote their band and gig locations / dates. They got signed by Columbia Records.
Hate to say it but the magic of these places is just fading away. I went to the Rainbow on a saturday evening 11 years ago and the place was almost empty. Hard to imagine that 35 - 40 years ago there would be 100's of people inside, some of them the biggest stars in the world and 1000's outside wishing they could get in. There will never be another scene like that.
Yeah buddy 🐸🍺🔪🔥
Awesome!! Can you make a video about The Cathouse? That was also another 80's metal hang out. I always wanted to know the location.
Dukes had been where Tom Waits worked and came up with some of his songs, but before that had been the London Fog. There was a dive motel called the Tropicana in that area a lot of traveling rock bands stayed at.
Oh man! I was just there a few days ago, filming Thank God It's Friday scene with Donna Summer.
Would have loved to have seen Johnny Cash at the Viper room in Dec 1993, that would have been AWESOME!! Great channel BTW 😎
Just another fuckin fantastic videO 👏👍👏
When you mentioned jack Osbourne it reminded me of something similar what happened to a friend of my dad's who was working in Birmingham England as a door Man at a nightclub and 3 people came wanted to come in he said that 2 of them could come in but one of them couldn't the one what couldn't come in was Ozzy Osbourne because he was wereing jeans he walked off and the other doorman said don't you know who that is he told him and he called Ozzy back and he let him come in but Ozzy tuck it all very well great video Kurt as always 👍
Nice video nice bar is nice that he named it after Lemmy
Memories of the Sunset Strip would be a great series Kurt
Another brilliant video! Looks like LA has changed a lot tho. Where are the Lemmys and the Ozzys of now? All those huge artists like Prince and Hutchence having wild nights in the viper room. It all seems so tame now.
GREAT VIDEO!! THE WISKEY CONCERT WAS AWSOME MY SON MAX 8 SAYS AND I ,.. THE OTHER CONCERTS YOU WENT TO ,,THAT GUY WAS SMOKING AND STANDING,, THE OTHER THE SOUND WAS OFF LIKE YA! SAID... OOKK !!! TELL US THE TRUTH THE VIPER CLUB LOOKS GREAT AND ITS HOPPING ,,BUT SOME PEOPLE AND I HEARD THAT THE VIPER CLUB IS COMING DOWN AND THE LIQ. STORE ,,THAT WHOLE AREA FOR CONDOS????????????? I HOPE NOT!!! THANKS..
Ha! That’s me at the 9:00 minute mark pointing at the camera. Good times back then! I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
This episode was one of my fav, my old band played at all those places from 87 on up to the 90s The Troubadour was super cool to my band and we were fast and noisey, i really enjoyed this one especially big mike how you grew up with him and the bean burritos! hell yeah! I enjoyed the footage from the offices in part one all that super cool memorabilia just sitting there and all your memories, you should have made this into maybe 4 parts!! Keep up the cool work!
Id like to see what was the dance floor at the Rainbow. That was my home away from home during the day so many great memories.I was there in 75 on.
Hey Kurt did you work with Gena Stonehill at the whiskey and Teesa ? What great times, bro !
I see there’s a TNT Family Restaurant up in Swift Current, Canada, maybe they relocated up there?
Remember the Country Club in Reseda ? I saw so many bands start out and play there. Can you do a piece on the Country Club days ?
We've been about 25 years almost since I last time I was in LA maybe 15 back in 2020 14 was last time I was in the LA and Anaheim area
Absolutely love your videos... I'm restoring a "supper club" called The White Pine here in Conover, NC... It's actually as old as The Rainbow but was closed in 2014. I'm restoring it and even though we're int he furniture capital of the country, no one has the "club booths" like The Rainbow and Viper Room...so I'm having them hand crafted after driving over 700-miles to buy one off Market Place. I am dying to sell the Snow Globes like The Rainbow does and I know Luke and Mikeal are busy but since you worked there, do you know where I can get snow globes like The Rainbow sells? Thanks, -Doug Rink
Lunch. I totally get it
That’s my only choice too. I get my bean burrito with sour cream and I add mild sauce and drink a cold Pepsi. ❤
I think maybe chips episode filmed at tower corner curve area
I love The Viper Room a lot of Missions play there and where are Phoenix where are Phoenix river Phoenix die i hop it still stays open he was there I hope it stays open keep his memory alive
Is it true the Viper room will soon be demolished and a 12 floor apartment block is to be built ?????
Six flags. whiskey. How many cool jobs have u had
9000 Sunset... Muder by the book. Columbo E1.
Visited in 1998 and saw major Hollywood stars doing cocaine there. Was disappointed to see that.
Probably earthquake retrofitting
I bet the TNT was Dynamite
6.70 a gallon for the cheap stuff
Kind of sad when skateboarding has become so main stream when you have stuff like that going on
Do you think hair metal on the sunset strip will come back one day?
No, that scene is of its time and can never be replicated.
All Mike wanted was a Pepsi
A correction from me , I meant to write 80's life..
All he wanted was a Pepsi...
Kilmister...
#1 sweet.
LOL what a loser
aps insaine video! times have sure changed for the worst ...the music sux , the vibes suck, nothing gets legendary anymore...
