  • This has been one of the most rewarding builds I have ever done. The Honda CRF250F is slept on by many but in today's video I show you how I transformed this little entry level trail bike into a Hard Enduro, single track ripping machine.
From all of the bash protection you can imagine, to a full suspension setup, this thing has become the most versatile, easy to ride, swiss army knife of dirt bikes that I have had the pleasure of owning.

You’re so right about the reliability/simplicity of just having this Honda air cooled thumper. I’ve had the same bike for 2 years now and zero issues. The maintenance intervals are few and far between and easily done with basic tools/basic mechanical knowledge. I ride with a guy who has a KTM 300EXC and he is constantly fouling plugs, bike not starting, just frequent general mechanical issues. It’s such great peace of mind when you’re way, way out on some trails and you have confidence that 250F is going to bring you back home.

Man, the only thing the CRF250F is missing are inverted forks. Even if most riders won't feel a huge difference (unless they are advanced riders), the aesthetics of USD forks are unbeatable. They just look so beefy and badass. Even my cheap little Honda Grom and CB300R have USD forks, and it adds sooo much to the look.

Very nicely set up on that bike. I rode an air cooled DR350 for many years. Lots of downsides, but that thing took me a lot of places and lots of single track. Along the same lines as yours. I modded pretty well. I did run into some clutch issues from heat build up in tight single track. Let it cool and your fine.

After seeing this bike in the showroom it reminded me of a XR200R. I had a XR200R in '82. Without any mods it helped me advance from the C class to the B class. I have both a Honda XR200R with USD built forks, custom fully adjustable shock, alloy swing arm and links, disc brakes, and much more, as well as an XT225 also with full custom suspension ($$$) so I am with you on smaller, simple bikes.

I did the same stuff but went the extra mile with the suspension and man it wasn’t enough for what I wanted… the triple clamps came undone during a 24 hour race was def not fun surviving that lap and ultimately even with upgrades suspension I blew through race techs best shock to the point the stock one was the only option… forks bent on me and despite emulator valve and motocross springs and oil weight still bottomed out. Other than that the fuel injection was a dream and the bike was a absolute blast to ride. Perfect power for fun. Honesty I’d prefer fse250e from gpx lighter more capable cheaper and street legal. Inverted forks and decent shock. You should def check them out next and compare them.

I know my bike is meant more for street but would like more aggressive tires because this bike has done great off road. I only have about 150 miles of seat time period but know I'm going to have more time off road than on. Have you heard of tusk tires and would 80/20 DOT approved tires make a lot of difference on black top? Of the accidents I've had, I think that a more aggressive tire would have made a difference. Mud, wet grass, ect. This is a lot but any feed back would be greatly appreciated. Btw, they're only $125 new, per set, on Amazon!

So I’m between the CRF250F and the KLX300R. I’m buying my 8 yr old a 110 and want to get something to ride with him. I’m 36 yrs old, 5’11”
, 220-230 lbs. Haven’t been on a bike in 20 yrs but used to ride. What is your pref for a 2024 fun/casual ride?

what about engine performance mods besides adding an aftermarket exhaust? Is there anything to do to get more horsepower?

Possibly a dumb question here, but I thought the primary reason you wanted the crf250f over the crf300l was the suspension? If you're replacing the suspension on the 250f anyway doesn't that kind of negate the biggest downside? Is it a clearance thing, or just something about the engine character at low speeds?

It wasn’t the suspension, it was the Weight**

Nice bike 👍. I bought a XR150L 7 month ago to learn to drive. I want to upgrade with a bike like yours. I use my 90 % on road and 100% off-road. I like to buy one and make it street legal and then add the extra mod. My concern are gas and weight. I need to drive 197 km in the high way ( no gas stations). Due to the light should it be safe to drive in the high ? Thanks you :) . Waiting to askers to buy one 😎

The 230F weighs 248lbs. The 250F weighs 268lbs. The 230F requires a 14 tooth counter sprocket and supension upgrades and it rules all the past and present air-cooled 250's.

I want to love this bike, but with a 5 speed, dinky tank, and low suspension, it's about 3/4th what an XR250R was out of the box.

Nice build but I feel like you could have reworked the 300l and ended up with similar results and a better more modern engine.

I have the same question. For not much more money, don’t you get more with a 300l? Not bashing this 250… just looking at both for a purchase myself and and leaning toward the 300l.
