I tried to drive highway 74 a couple of days ago....I turned around and went back home. This highway is dangerous! I will plan to find another route to Palm Springs. This route was only 50 mins from Hemet, CA to Palm Springs. I'm new here in California and I want to see Palm Springs; and I'm thinking about living there six months out of the year. I got to find another way to get there from Winchester, California where I currently live. Any suggestions?
Drove this a year ago when touring California and it was superb! Like my own local roads but the sun was out😄. However had seen people on trip advisor site complaining too many bends....get a grip wimps! It’s a super road!
Used to drive a tractor trailer over this highway a couple of times a month to deliver to customers in the valley. That was back in the mid-1980's. Hasn't changed a bit in appearance.
I’m used to curves on narrow country roads but this was something else!! I felt like I was going crazy as the turn became a full circle! My small car didn’t seem to want to break and I had to coax it slowly to break well under the speed limit or else it could flip over by the sheer force of the spiral curves!
I agree. I drove there yesterday bc google maps changed my route because of an accident somewhere else. It was dark already and I was afraid for my life. If I knew I would have gladly stood in traffic for a few hours instead of going on that road again. And how the hell is the speed limit there 55mph?!? I was scared to go over 30!
I don't think this video shows how truly frightening highway 74 is people regularly passed on a double yellow lines even if you just going to mile or 2 under the speed limit its curvy is that your tire squealing?
As a 67 year old driving this from san Diego to palm.desert (recommended route by AAA, not knowing about all the bends, it messed with my peripheral vision. I used the pull outs a couple times to let vehicles pass. It is beautiful though but I will find alternate route to go back to san Diego
Beautiful drive. Though whomever did the driving for this video needs driving lessons, and should probably never ever drive a manual transmission car again...
James Spradlin ....lol, I added in the background soundtrack because I had the radio on in the original soundtrack, which would lead to copyright issues.
@@j.j.1753 well, while recording I had the radio on, and would be subject to copyright songs…therefore no money for me, so I put the soundtrack of the inside of a car as the background.
Such a great drive, the views are incredible. I try to go up highway 74 once a month to admire our city!

HWY 74 the most dangerous road!!
One of the scariest drives of my life. I will never drive that road again. Too high and people drive like nuts on the road.

Exactly the point of how extremely dangerous drive is
@@MichaelJirochVisualArtist then how come i hear downshifting and braking and skidding where the turns are?

I just drove a highway so windy I almost ran into my own taillights.
I’m scared falling off the highway
Was hoping to see a Ram!! Didn’t get the chance!! Seen Deer signs my whole life, never a 🐏
Go through British Columbia, I had 20 stand in the road like big dogs, they don't do that in Alaska, they get shot an ate.👍😂✌️👁️👁️
