That's gotta be so damn satisfying, to play an original instrument that you built yourself by hand, that plays and sounds off the scale. Beautifiul job.
Thanks very much! The headstock here though wasn’t intended to be the like the snakebyte design. There are similarities for sure. but in detail (shape, bevels, angle) they are different. The idea was to have a modern approach to that hockey headstock😃🤘
The MX250 Explorer shape is simply the best of the explorer shapes. This is such an amazing build. With a few changes it would be my absolute dream guitar.
I love this guitar! I love the Explorer body style as well. All you need are black frets, tuner centers and strings and it would be totally blacked out!
You are very good at crafting that thing. I'd go for a more traditional look on that thing (the vision of the one owned by James Hetfield is my reference), but hey, tastes. I just love Explorers!
Well, as the body shape goes it’s basically a classic James Hetfield type explorer ( ESP style) as the headstock goes, James has so many different styles there (ESP, Gibson, Ken Lawrence). Which one do you like?
@@ArkesGuitars As I said earlier, I'm for the traditional appearance (gloss finish for the body, dots or something not too intrepid for the inlays etc.). It's a tie between the classic Gibson and ESP styles (somehow I also like that big hockey stick headstock). Matte finishes and the like are just not for me.
Awesome!!!! Love the demo - glad to see someone staying with EMG's and not jumping to Fluence.. personally I love the tone! Three questions if I may - what angle is the headstock? How did you decide on the angle? What is the Dremmel attachment you used to polish the frets? Cheers!!!
Rosalinda Caseley Hi, I appreciate it. Yeah, I think there are many great pickups out there. I too, use a variety of pickups, but you just can’t wrong with EMGs. To answer your questions...the headstock angle is 15 degrees. It’s pretty standard. I just love the feel and look of it. That’s what I’m used to from the ESP guitars I played before I started building my own guitars. The Dremel attachment is just a standard polishing bit. Just search for Dremel and polishing. Cheers.
Thank you! Well, it depends on your preference. It’s quite smooth with this finish. Also, sometimes people even use a fine sandpaper to sand off the gloss of the back of the neck so that it becomes smoother/ faster for soloing. Gloss can be tacky.
Looks great! Especially that inlay work you did on the fretboard. Also, so happy you put the top strap hanger on the top and not behind the neck! Do you just make these guitars for yourself or do you sell them?
Thanks! For now, it’s just for myself and friends / bandmates. Hopefully, I’ll start a business in the future, if people are interested in buying these sort of guitars.
@@ArkesGuitars Id give my left testicle for one! the ESP MX-250 body seriously needed a comeback (and i dont have 5000$ for one on reverb), and that headstock is an EXELENT choice. If you do it, would you make a JH-2 full body diamond plated one? (obviously requires CNC machinery etc, so i dont know if thats even possible) :D ESP MX-250 body seriously needed a comeback (and i dont have 5000$ for one on reverb), and that headstock is an EXELENT choice.
Thanks very much! Well, I started about 10 years ago by simply doing it. 😀 there are many tutorials out there, especially on UA-cam. Sure, it takes practice, but ultimately it’s not that hard. Hey man, sorry to bother you again but I was just wondering where you found your template for this Explorer body and headstock? I’ve decided I’m going to give guitar building a go, I’ve searched for the MX-250 shape but I can’t find a template anywhere. Any information would be very much appreciated.🤘
Hey, I built my own template ten years ago using my Epiphone Goth Explorer. I reshaped it though to have a sharper look like the ESPs. As for the headstock, this my own design. If you google „explorer template“ you‘ll find loads of different options where you can buy one.
@@ArkesGuitars Cheers for the reply mate! I found a guy and he’s doing me some plans for a ESP MX250 Explorer and also a Snakebyte. I need to do a bit of research on neck building, that’s got me confused a little bit, but I’ll work it out.👍

The wonders of browsing Recommended. Gorgeous Explorer and killer headstock. Favorite shape of guitar ever!
That’s cool! Thanks!
The snakebyte headstock with the explorer 1984 body is the most sexiest guitar ever, amazing work and it sounds brutal

It looks and sounds incredible, but doesn't the neck need a gloss of satin finish for its smoother when sliding??

@@ArkesGuitars thanks for this, I have a few second hand guitars which I need to do some work on to restore, will try this.

What was the total cost of the guitar?? ( Also looks amazing )
Just for the timber, hardware etc. normally around 600$
How much for one of these?

Hey! Yes, it’s 24.75“. So original Gibson scale. 🤘
