My first car was a '59 Rambler Deluxe. Deluxe meaning no air, no heat, no radio. But it was three hundred bucks in 1966.

I like how these are reproduced / edited with the upward sweeps at frame changes (when the 'ding' sounds).
I remember often being the one to turn the knob on those 'filmstrips' (after threading film through projector and putting needle to record) in elementary school.

Had a 1965 Rambler Classic. It was amazing how well built it was. Disc brakes optional, and a custom cushion system that let you lay down from the front to back seats.
I hope it's still running out there today somewhere.

I did like the 1960 Ramblers; I've never owned any AMC products. In general I've always owned mostly GM products. I did own at one time a automobile from this era; Which was a 1960 Chevrolet Corvair 700 4 door, & liked everything about it. The Rambler American; As well as the Cross country wagon were some of the best styled wagons of the time. If I had to pick one model it would be the American 2 door; or the wagon. I'll never own one , But will always be a fan of AMC products. Thank you for the video.

I grew up with the same model Corvair, it was a great car. If I could have any Rambler, it would be a 68-69 American wagon (just called Rambler in 69).

Les Tremayne doing the narrative. One of the busiest voice men and character actors of his day.

Within six years Studebaker would cease production, Studebaker should have merged with American Motors.

That was sort of the plan in 1954: Hudson merged with Nash, Studebaker merged with Packard. The mergers were the brainchild of George Mason, head of Nash. Once stabilized, he wanted the two new companies to join and become a "mini GM." Unfortunately, Mason died before this could take place and his successor (George Romney) thought it was a bad move and axed the plan.

I wish I could find a 1959 Rambler Ambassador or station wagon with the Air Conditioner. Or I would like to find a 1952 Rambler Ambassador with Air and a strong 6 cylinder engine.

They were pretty good cars…if you didn’t mind being a mechanic. Parts were everywhere and cheap!

As a kid, I wouldn't have wanted to be seen dead in a Rambler product.

The one thing that stood out with Ramblers was that people identified you ,the owner -with cheapskates.A miser, a boring fellow with no class or taste.Detroit learned that selling economy only worked when times were bad in America. In 1960 you could buy a new 3 bedroom ranch in suburbia for $10k or less, but working in that factory only paid you $4k a year and that meant a budget and skimping.
Night clubs, vacations, a boat, color TV, nope.9 to five and a 6 pack.Credit cards? Payment plans? Lay -away ?All designed to help Mr.Smith keep up with Mr.Jones, and he had a Caddy, a color TV, a pool and his wife had a mink coat.....How can he do all this when he works at the same factory at the same pay?
