      Curious about residential installs. I'm sure it's uncommon but do part suppliers make 'designer' finishes? What other considerations should I worry about if I'd get a system for a new build.

      Thanks for watching. The most important thing is to use a licensed (if required in your area) fire sprinkler contractor who is experienced in residential systems. I would ask for references of other homes they have done. Sprinkler heads come in a few colors. If you go with a concealed head, you can have the cover plate factory painted to any color. It must be painted by the manufacturer. Do not paint yourself. The cover plate is a flat plate that conceals the actual sprinkler head. This plate typically falls off around 135°f. Reliable Sprinkler can now do a wood grain print on the cover plate.

      The older I get, the more I realize how little I know. Plus I think my brain is running low on storage. I think it's starting to delete something in order to save something else. Lol

    I spent years in the fire service but never did any hands on with sprinklers. OTOH, I did spend 10 years working on oil trucks and all of the delivery pipes are grooved / Victaulic couplings. That was 25 years ago so any plumbing repairs I did was with weld nipples, because we had no way to make the grooved ends in the field. The only difference in the couplings was oil resistant rubber. I actually bought my weld nipples and couplers from the local sprinkler company then changed the rubbers out at the shop. Buying them locally was much cheaper than paying shipping for heavy couplers.

    I hear the Milwaukee super hawg M18 works well on high torque situations, didn't buy one yet, but it's on my list of things to get, and it kinda heavy to use on overhead, but if you build up your muscles, you'll be fine.

      I have the regular M18 hole hawg right angle drill and it doesn’t run a groover. It kicks out under high torque. I’ve been wondering if the super hawg would do better. I originally got it to operate PIVs. It douse fine on a newer PIV, but not on one that is slightly difficult to operate.

    What was that thing at 0:19?

      The old 4” flanged check valve for the fire department connection. We went back in with a grooved check valve.

      @@FireSprinklerTech oh so it's for backflow prevention?

    • @FireSprinklerTech
      @FireSprinklerTech  9 місяців тому +2

      Yeah, the fire department connection is on the outside of the building and connects to the system at the check valve. If needed, the fire department can pump water into the system. So the check valve prevents water from coming out of the fire department connection but will allow water to flow into the system. I need to start doing a better job of explaining things in the videos. lol @@aaronbaraiya3692

    Not bad work, although the chain block is a bit overkill and a waste of time. It’s only a 4” check, I’m probably about the same size as you and I can carry that up and down the ladder myself no problem. If you were dealing with a 6” OS&Y or something I’d understand not wanting to lug that lol.
