Hey man. Fun video! Good to see someone critiquing on a deeper level. My name is a hard one; basically Shoe + rd. Ha!
Frank (who's holding the boom) is a photographer/friend of mine and has never done sound before. Obviously he does a terrible job, but it's purely to demonstrate the type of mic we're using compared to inside, why the furry thing is on there and so on. The video is more tailored toward my channels audience who are mainly filmmakers that do sound on the side when they have to.
Some valid points here. Thanks again!

Did you get your Advil after that loud shouting with Curtis 😁.
Finally going to review my discount boom pole next week. I had it for over 3 months now, but was far far away attending school. Did you want to pre review my video before release? might be able to learn something from you especially if I do something dumb LOL... Not gonna use any mixing bag... likely the Zoom F3. Not using a blimp like the guy in this video but maybe "THE SPACER BUBBLE"... going to use the Rode NTG5 and maybe the Sennheiser MKE 600 and Probably not but maybe the MKH 50.
Or just release the video and let you critique. You could always critique my video but I hope I do good enough for your approval but I'm sure you'd have good advice and thoughts on the budget boom pole. Going to test handling noise and show the external cable and internal mount options.

It's funny you should ask... Curtis and I got side tracked and when he was taking me back to the truck he recalled that I never did get the water. I lived.
Sure, email me the link to your video and I'll check it out.

@@SoundSpeeds Andoer MK-3000. Cheap, carbon fiber, super light comes with zero straps and threw most of my Velcro straps out (great move on my part). Funny, I commented about my MKH 50 before you said a lot of people use it because of the natural sounds :P. I purchased the Rycote super softy for my MKH 50. The Spacer Bubble blocks a bit too much of those audio frequencies giving a bit of a "flat" sound.
The NTG5 sounds better with the location kit fur muff.

I should have watched your series Ambient Slim Boom pole video before I started attempting my review. Weight test and flex would have been interesting to show.
My review which has more splits than I had hoped is currently as of the moment of this message set to unlisted:

Feel free to comment on my video and show my content and skip parts... Try not to destroy me too much please :p.

Your tangents prove you care and how seriously you take your job. I love it. I mess around on set after understanding the mood and the "needs" of the people on set. Often IF APPROPRIATE I will ask an actor or actress what their preference is for chatting or banter between takes or whatever. Obviously, I want to respect the rules and guidelines of on set procedure and never get in the way of peoples jobs. But i find the gelling of a crew with appropriate relationships and banter loosens the tension, and makes the day more bearable. One actress enjoyed the talking between takes during a very intense scene that helped her relax and not get over anxious. That same actress on another day requested absolute silence and I was happy to oblige, letting her stay in creative space. It really is about knowing your job an an expert level that puts others at ease. Establishing that professional and flexible workflow makes all the difference.
Thought: I'd love to see some BTS footage of you Allen working on set and seeing you "in your element"! Do you know where I could find something? Even if it's tiny or limited footage.
    Thanks for another excellent video!

I've seen myself in Walking Dead footage. Look for BTS TWD episodes 707-716 and all of season 8. Also, The Founder and Kill The Messenger has BTS you'll see me in.

If I already have the MKH 416 & 50 is there any reason to buy the Scheops CMIT 5? What about the Sanken CS-3E?

    • @SoundSpeeds
      @SoundSpeeds  6 місяців тому

The CMIT 5U pulls in a lot of sound in a cone in front of it while rejecting some to the side and rear while the CS-3E is extremely directional with a lot of reach in a straight line and great rejection. Take your pick but if you want to better match your other two mics, get an MKH-70 or 8070. Those are long shotguns that will pull in sound at a greater distance and better match the 50 and 416.

Is the Zoom F6 an okay Mixer for entry level?

It works. Digital limiters and small controls but it's functional

Booming from the bottom is the only way when on roof tops with street traffic noise. Also reflective floors in noisy environment.

Can be but on top of buildings is sometimes the way to go on top of a building. You have to listen.
