Manchester Orchestra Presents: A Black Mile To The Surface (The Concert Film)

- Опубліковано 11 лют 2021
- We wanted to create a really special live performance for our fans, seeing as we haven’t been able to be together in quite awhile. So we returned to the place where we recorded A Black Mile To The Surface and played the album in its entirety. We are so excited to share this film, for free, to everybody. This album and your reception to it has exceeded our expectations, and we felt this the best way to thank you all for supporting our music. This feels like the perfect way to close the Black Mile chapter, and I’m excited to say that this is more than just a concert. It’s also the beginning.

this is my neighbours' favorite music concert, whether they like it or not.
Hahaha
😂😂😂😂😂😂
That's very funny (and exactly how I feel)
🤣🤣
I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favourite comment on the Citadel.
I am not sure why it took me almost forever it seems, I am 77, to finally find this gift from God...thank you
My thoughts too, a gift from God!!
I just found this group a couple of days ago too. What we been waiting for??
@@jimrelph7963 this moment I guess....worth the wait
77! Wow that’s so cool !
@@jimrelph7963 life gets in the way...and I am blessed with random listens...
I've just recently discovered them. I'm 63 and just wondered how I never heard them. Far too good 😊
These guys are severely underrated
They really are. But so are alot of really great musicians!
@@ztoney38 you are so right
@@JamesG12 i saw the solo show Andy did with Dustin Kensrue from Thrice. Damn it gives me chills still just to think about it. Amazing!
Agreed
@@ztoney38 Unfortunately I haven't seen them live yet. One day hopefully.

OCD kicking in..must remove Lead, SD 😬🤪😬🤪
Boo Ya, bro is on it
@ 23:00 there is a moment when you must put on your headphones, turn the volume as loud as possible, close your eyes, and do your best not to cry. Because that transition is one of the most gorgeous pieces of music ever created. “And thats alright, thats alright with meeeee.”
Thank you for that recommendation. It is beautiful indeed. Between this band, Frightened Rabbit and John Butler who i just saw a couple days ago in Seattle I am very happy with finding these bands either in the last couple months or years for Frightened Rabbit. MO is a remarkable band, I'm blown away. I have tried to keep a band together or play with consistent members at different times since the 90's and I had no idea how hard it is to find the chemistry that these guys obviously have. What a thing to witness. This band is an absolute gem
That drummer is the heart beat of the band.
It's blasphemous that this band doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Hands down my favorite band. This is just what I needed after a 12 hour shift 🙌
Came here to say the same thing
@William Patrick Woodcock New single from the upcoming album
Don't think they care though they are for us
Yeah. I love this band! Such talent and beautiful music!!
I swear the whole Alien > Sunshine > Grocery sequence is one of the most beautiful and cathartic movements in music I've ever heard.
It just wrenches several visceral emotions right out of me every damn time.
100% with you. If I pull up to my house and “The Alien” is playing, I will sit in my car until “The Grocery” finishes. It would just feel really dirty to leave before it finishes.
The whole album is a masterpiece but I’m with you on that. It literally just flows doesn’t it, it just grabs you! So beautiful ❤️👌
If you don't move I swear to you I'm gonna make you
I have stated this exactly on about 75 different occasions. Agree
I played The Maze at my mom's funeral in 2019. She was 72, but she loved modern music. I played it for her about a year before she died, and she loved it immediately. She absolutely fell in love with it when I explained the meaning of the song. If this brain cancer kills me, I'll have The Maze played at funeral as well. I have no plans on letting it kill me though. It's going to have to work very hard for its dinner. This album is a masterpiece from beginning to end, but I have a six year old daughter who is my world. The Maze will always be my favorite Manchester Orchestra of all time. Three minutes of perfect bliss!
Beautiful! My 9 year old son is a fan! Best wishes.
Xx
And that brought a tear to my eye.
58 now and discovering this truly fantastic, fan-emmersed, beautiful in every way band is just so huge to me. Powerful.
Thanks MO.
Thank you so much for sharing. It‘a very meaningful in my family as well. A beautiful song and I truly wish you the best. ♥️
Stay strong my friend!! Music is medicine.
Me and the wife agreed that this will be our date night for the week! Big Screen, Cranking the Volume, and acting like were watching it live in a concert hall! Thank you Manchester Orchestra!
Sounds like the life m8!
same
We were totally saying the same. Me, hubby and the dog sitting by the fire with the lights out and the music cracked all the way up. Perfection!
Lady watched with....then...yep...grabbed the beats...round 2. Pardon me. Xo
My date tonight too!
Andy Hull's voice was crafted by God himself. Breathtaking
This, for me, is their best album.
Absolutely. It’s more well rounded, well written, and with well wishes. Well? Well.
Was this comment before or after tmmog was released? Haha
Night shift in the intensive care unit with MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA 👌 Great!
Stay safe🖤
The Silence is a masterpiece. Epic song
Can not stop listening to it.
how the hell do they sound even better than the album?? incredible!
This is a skip-no-song album and performance for sure. And The Grocery and The Mistake are two of your most underrated songs. Like, damn.
Can we also just acknowledge the fact that Andy himself wrote this ENTIRE masterpiece? Not only are the lyrics and instrumentals in ones such as The Wolf and The Silence some of the best writing and sound I have ever heard in any (rock) music so far... but written all by ONE GUY?! These guys need waaay more recognition. This entire album was a whole different experience for me...
To be fair robert McDowell has a writing credit on almost everything andy has done including right away great captain. Quite the dynamic duo and this is not to discredit andy
Was going to say the same thing, Andy is amazing but Robert is completely instrumental in their albums@@asscancerjohnny
OMG, this version of The Silence...
Amazing
Of all things, I found this band through a UA-cam comment from a depressed man who was listening to The Silence and suggested everyone listen. I mean, im so thankful for that guy.
best band that emerged in the last 20 years. By far...
and All Them Witches
great band too@@jyoumans

appreciate this, although I never ended up skipping to a specific song because I didn't want to miss a second of this!
@@zachstutzman8974 haha, neither do I! But if you ever only have limited time to show family and friends how great MO are live, you have lots of options. :)
Thanks for the warning. It was intense.
@@johnnomadic440 of course, least I could do.
Totally agree the best hands down.
This is the way.
I never comment on videos. But I absolutely had to on this one. Thank you so much for posting this "concert" for us. After stumbling across MO a couple years ago, I can't get enough. This past year has been a very rough one for me. Not only COVID and the myriad reasons that sucks, but also lost my mother in November 2019 and then my father in August of 2020. Having a band I can play from start to finish, without even considering skipping a song, or a note is a major relief for us that turn to music to work through situations and feelings in life. I can sit and cry and not feel bad about it.
Thank you. I truly needed this.
Totally agree!
❤️
Stay strong brother .xx
Man, I feel the same way. I just started listening to them a year or so ago and every tune is straight money. So underrated.
Very well said.
The transition between The Alien and The sunshine is really amazing. It makes me cry because I remember to my son. Wherever you are, wait for me.
Beautiful. ❤
Andy Prince laying DOWN the bass. 31:06 - The Grocery. YES YES YES
Damn they really killed "The Mistake", flawless
한국인도 본다!!!
Koreans see it, too
Normally I’m annoyed when there’s ads in the middle of videos, but the fact that you guys released a free concert means I will be watching every one of these ads with a smile on my face
Best band on planet
Certainly a favourite, there’s something special about them.
@@ruladiesman217 great musicians and andys voice works eveytime
Agreed
The only thing I love more than the concert itself is the positivity and just the overwhelming love for this show and this band in the comments. They deserve it. There's an energy here that I've just never seen in a comment section. It's beautiful.
Much love to you all.
Man that last song is now one of my all time favorites. Tears well up in my eyes when he says “Little girl you are cursed by my ancestry”
Please know that your lyrics have meant everything to some of us who have been isolated due to the lockdowns.
True that!
Excellent
We really enjoy
Are you suggesting they've meant everything... to nothing?
Especially The Wolf's line about being filled with Corona
“You lift that burden off of me”
I musta watched this a hundred times.......This is one of the greatest Top to Bottom albums ever made.
Apart from The Wall of course.
Watching this on repeat is severely limiting the amount of time I have to do anything else. Hands down one of the best music performances I have ever seen.
The silence, so sad and so powerful. One of my all-time favorite
Yesterday my Recommendation list played The Silence. I had till that point never heard of this band nor their music. I was immediately caught up by the different-ness of what I was hearing. I'm rambling, but this band is hands down one of the best I've ever heard. Simply brilliant.
"The Wolf" is one the greatest songs I've ever heard and this performance is breathtakingly beautiful.
Can we all just stop and acknowledge that outro for The Sunshine. Right as Andy starts bobbing his head left and right when Gobo starts in...you know shit about to throw down.
The Grocery never fails to rightfully fuck me up. This version 10x fold. You are such a big light in my life, please don't ever stop being you. Every single member of this band is just incredibly talented and I wish you all the best.
Preach!
Well I just found a new band to love.
This will be my fifth live Manchester Orchestra concert! First concert was 2010 Milwaukee Wisconsin at Verge Fest.
Only my second. First was with Brand New in Orlando
Can we talk about how beautiful the lyrics are?! And shout out to those bass lines! And them harmonies too! I'm so happy I discovered this band during quarantine!
I was just thinking this today, listening to the studio version of this album. Their bassist writes some really great lines. And of course Andy's lyrics are always incredible.
I've come back to this so many times in the year since my father died... Thank you!!!
Gosh that transition from The Maze to The Gold😍
Pure magic!
The best 55 minutes of live music you’ll ever witness
Had no clue who these guys were ( maybe I've been under a rock), it just popped up in my feed. So glad it did, damn good music. Instant fan.
Try this - ua-cam.com/video/AoOWt70iIcQ/v-deo.html - documenting the creation of the record. It's fabulous.
Welcome to your newest addiction :)
Likewise here. Popped up in my feed a year ago. Instant favorite band ever since. I will NEVER get tired of listening to them. Lead vocalist has a phenomenal ringing voice 🤩
My parents and I watched this last night and were absolutely FLOORED... My all time favorite band with probably my now all time favorite performance ever!
Every so often there comes along an album that is so complete. There are not many as complete as this, a one that not only is sonically brilliant, but is beautifully written, performed and re-played in exquisite ways. Every song on this album has a solid place in my soul, yet the one that has buried itself the deepest is The Silence. I'm not a father, yet the final part of this song has such a deep resonance that I can't not feel a well of emotion at every listen. Keep up this amazing work and thank you for creating something so special.
I first watched this on shrooms.......it was one of the most spiritual moments ever......so good.
Tomorrow!!! Such an incredible band and one of the most cohesive albums I have ever come across. The only album I can let play from start to finish without ever tapping next. The flow, the transitions! True storytellers. So excited!!
Perfectly said!
You can't listen to "Be everything to nothing" without skipping a track? To me that album is even better than this one.
it's quite insane how multilayered and relatable this album in for each person in their own right.
Grocery and The silence absolutely crushes me.
holy shit that version of The Sunshine is insanely good
I pray i live long enough to witness this band live
I am another one that is late to this game. I just ran across MO randomly on Spotify and now I am O.B.S.E.S.S.E.D. I am on day three of listening to their music back-to-back. It's soothing, vulnerable, powerful, deep, uncomfortable, home. I have never spiraled so fast from being chill, to adrenaline, to tears, to love.... in every damn song. I could legit watch this video forever and feel just as mesmerized as I was the first time. In a time where we all could use some live music for our souls, thank you for this. Amazing to its core. Chicago's waiting for you!
Thank you. My Dad was an underground miner at Homestake. He worked the deepest level. The Gold is truly beautiful & I can feel my Mom & Dad in those lyrics. Deep Level Trash ♡ that was the name of his crew. ♡
Am I the only one who clicked "like" before watch? I simply love this guys and i'm 100% sure - this will be masterpiece.
Am i the only who fast foward looking for Ivegot Friends?
@@Bonrod read the comments.... I think you might be. Everyone else just watched and appreciated the show. Also, it's made pretty clear that this is A Black Mile to the Surface front to back.
The Mistake hits way too close to home with me. These boys can do know wrong. So damn good.
The first time I saw these guys, was when they opened for Kevin Devine and Brand New in 2007. I knew then they were going to be something special. I feel so lucky to be on earth at the same time they are. Bravo Manchester Orchestra!
Your brother from Morocco I love your songs that touch my heart We need these songs keep going
I watched the concert live. Living in the UK it was a long wait being hours past my bedtime; but do you know that was one of the best parts for me as i listened to the comments/live chat
and introductions. "Hello from Italy, Ireland, Brazil, Holland", etc, etc. I have never felt so connected and at one with the rest of the world. In a world of disease, death and fears for our futures we came together for music, support, sharing happiness together. Thank you Manchester Orchestra, thank you fans of the world for filling it with love. I will never forget.
Prince is such a great bassist, love watching him play.
Listening to this at 1 AM in the morning, takes you to a dimension where you can see that there's nothing you see there's only the reflection.
This is glassic. If Beethoven would be born in our times he would certainly be compounded like This magnificent SILENCE
What a way to blow out my new speakers 😭😭😭🙌🙌🙌
I was on shrooms the third time I listened to Manchester Orchestra. completely changed my life.
There were portions of this performance so beautiful, I found myself forgetting to breathe. By "portions" I mean all of it.
I had this album saved in my computer for almost 3 years, and I never took a look at it, and the day I did it, it became one of my favorite albums of all time
I'm 58 and...man...WTF...this guys are amazing! The Silence make me cry like a child!!!!
age is just a number, we're all on this ride together. cheers
I know this is being greedy, but I could use a live concert film of every Manchester Orchestra album.
If there were live concert versions of all their pre-2013 albums I would simply pass away
Also bad books and right away great captain, again, not tryna be greedy
@@squidspecs yea, if simple math had a release like this... I would probably cry for days. Idk thought this album is dangerously close to that one. I don't think I could pick one if I had to.
One of those albums you just press play and listen straight through without a skip. Can’t wait to hear this whole new album first two released tracks are amazing
I have only just found you guys. Genuinely blown away by your music. One of the best things about life is the gifts that come your way when you least expect them. For me, in my world, this is an example of that.
What a way to show your love to your fans. HAPPY VALENTINES to all of you.
The Wolf needs to be played live when concerts come back!
This version was so good!
Thank you for putting on that awesome show for free. Over 6.5k people joined together and got lost from everything for just a little while. I know it helped heal my soul a little! It was amazing
Definitely the best live band out there! I've been following them since their inception! Been to many of their concerts. Thank you Manchester Orchestra! Forever ROCK!
The best concert I've never been to!
This filled a huge void in my heart and soul. It’s been a year since my last concert. Thank you Manchester Orchestra for always delivering to your fans!
MO will always have a special place in my heart, and I'm forever grateful that another one of my favorite bands Brand New brought them to CO so i could discover them live. That was back when they were touring I'm Like a Virgin; i fell in love instantly and have followed them ever since. But Black Mile and Million Masks have brought my love for this band to a whole new level! By far, hands down, without a doubt one of THE most underrated bands EVER!
Finally a band, a video, a collection of poetry and lyricism which defies the short attention spans of the current collective. Add the arrangement and the theatrics, and this will be a repeat to begin and challenge my playlist for times to come.
ever hear of Radiohead? They been doing that for years haha but yea these guys kick ass.
I must have been hiding under a rock!!! I love this so much. My friends and family have to be getting tired of me talking about it!!! Thank you guys!
I’ve watched this a few times now and it just blows me away how good this band is. “The Silence” is just an amazing song. I really hope to see them live some day
They are magical. I hope you get to see them, too. 💕
they are incredible live I was fortunate to see them at the Ryman in nashville and it was just as amazing as expected
The album alone is a masterpiece. This performance is something above and beyond that entirely. How this does not have millions of views I have no clue. What I do know is this incredible band is absolutely underrated and massively under appreciated….and people are missing out. All M.O. albums are in constant circulation at home and in the car, and this performance and video fills our home on a regular basis. Thank you M.O. for reminding this 52 year old cranky bastard how music can absolutely move you to tears and impact your soul….I’d forgotten that.
Just saw these guys last night in Charlotte. Holy freaking moly...incredibly good show. I'd go see them again tonight if I could!
This is a Rob appreciation comment. Love the mixing in this and highlighting Rob’s vocals and harmonies more!
Came to say the same thing... Rob sounds great!!!
RIP Scott Hutchison 💚💙
I thought of him during this video too!
Frightened Rabbit was such an amazing band. I only discovered them a few years prior to Scott's passing. Them and Manchester Orchestra are fantastic
Scott was a treasure to my soul
I don't know why and how, but i discovered this band a month ago. Where was i all this time? I'm totally obsessed now. I don't know a lot about them, but this is a solid preformance.
same here.🎶👍
At least you found em . I found them in 2007. Where have you been is awesome
Lockdowns made me suicidally depressed and this album was an enormous part of my healing from that. This music was the only thing at the time that could pull me into the present, and hold me while I sobbed my eyes out. I’m myself again (perhaps even happier) because of these beautiful souls. God worked through you guys to write this masterpiece of an album.
Ok. I don't why it's taken me so long
But, Im here now
Manchester is my favorite band and honestly makes the best music I've ever heard. I can't even begin to describe the emotions their music invokes in me. More people should know about them
literally every album has a different sound and every album is my all time favorite.
Hello from Snowy Greece...Thank u for this amazing concert...Hope one day to see u live here...
I am loving all the comments. This is my favorite to come back to when I want to sulk a bit. Feel deeply. They've helped me heal so much. I will never forget traveling to Madrid from the US on this existential crisis, and I cried so much after seeing them live. I needed this so badly to feel validated. ❤ The pandemic awaked so much trauma that was archived. We keep going and going. Once I was able to slow down, be still, this album showed up and transformed my life. Super shadow work. I am grateful I can come back and not cry as much as I used to reflecting. Music is a gift, and they certainly are.
This is some lifechanging shit
Never heard of them in Australia until a few days ago listening to random music of YT.. so glad I came across them... Their albums have been repeat for days.. So so good.
Good to know real music didn't end years ago after all ^^ Epic.
Witnessing music performance futures; excellent investment, the little time i 've spent tuning inn...new album, knew live show is unsurpassed, like who really
The last band my dad shared with me ❤😢 .. thank you guys xx
I just heard The Silence on UA-cam. First time I heard about you guys. Damn great song so I immediately ordered three albums! Great band, good sound, cool performance!
Thanks so much for doing this! Andy's voice is so beautiful it almost makes me cry. You guys are so amazing live!
Agreed
What do you mean almost!? I literally cried when I saw them on their last Aus tour. There’s just something about black mile that gets me all emotional.
Underrated pipes
Agree ... his voice on some songs brings me to tears... his voice is amazing
Almost?
