Wash everything - bedding - yours and pets if they get on your comforter. Vacuum, Vacuum, Vacuum - daily. Place your homemade flea traps in every room at night - 1/4 c Dawn to 3/4 c warm water - stir well. Get you a $5.00 desk lamp and place directly over the shallow flea trap bowl. To keep pets from drinking the mixture - place the dish behind furniture and directly under you bed, behind dressers, under couch. The light will still attract them even if it's not directly over the bowl. Every two or three days, rinse out the traps and get a fresh mixture. If after 3 days of refilling you see no more fleas - keep this up for at least 10 more days - those female fleas have laid eggs so they will hatch as well

THE FOLLOWING METHOD WORKED FOR ME THE VERY FIRST NIGHT in 2 different areas of known activity. I used a baking pans with large surface areas (sides as low as possible), fleas can jump up to 7 in., hot water, real tealight candle (in the center of pan), dawn (3 tbsp). Also, I plan to vacuum every day for the offspring. *Both pans had 30+ fleas

I did this -- it worked! And, I did not use a light. As a matter of fact, my dish was under the sofa in the dark, but my cats sleep on the sofa when they come inside for the evening, so it was the best place to put it. I don't usually have a flea problem but we ran out of flea treatment for the cats for a short period and they just got out of control. This one's a winner. Thanks, Robb!

@@RobbsHomemadeLife Is it true then that you don't need to use a light over the soapy water? I hope so because having a lamp going for a long time above the liquid might cost too much on power. A torch beside the water would cost too much on batteries to keep the torch going. Keeping the soapy water in a dark place instead would be much more economical. I haven't tried it yet because I only just found your video today, but I will give it a try and see what happens. I don't even have a pet, but I still have a flea problem in the house. With no animals in the house to bite, the fleas have been biting me, I've had itchy sores all over my body, so I desperately need to get rid of the fleas. Thank you for this video. I'll write back soon.

    • @8anewbeginning160
      @8anewbeginning160 2 роки тому +4

I've said I'd write back, now I am. I haven't tried the water and soap, but I've managed to get rid of the fleas with salt and a natural spray can on the carpet, which automatically sprays every 15 minutes. The spray is so thin that you don't even notice it. I nickname it my natural flea bomb. I feel like I can get on with my life now that the fleas are gone.

I used this method back in '81-82 and found it worked so well I continued this practice nightly for the duration of our living in the country 8 yrs. It was next to impossible to keep fleas out i.e. with dogs, cats and kids tromping thru the house continuously. Every night before I went to bed, the last thing I did was to prepare a short white corning ware dish with soapy water right by the front door where traffic was heavy. I know that light was the attraction and they're looking for water. Every morning I found fleas, gnats, mosquitoes and a host of other flying insects all of which were un-welcome in my home. I cleaned my carpets twice yearly using a Rug Doctor with steam. It cleaned out residue, spot clean ups from the puppy accidents and gave the entire wall-to-wall a fresh smell. Critters can leave eggs in the carpet. The water I dumped was hideous and believe me when I say it removed sand, red clay dirt and a variety of other things I don't want to think about. No harm to children, or pets I don't like chemicals.... Every spring just as the rain dissipated, and then again in the fall about Oct-Nov before all the company came over. I didn't have a flea problem any longer. Of course I kept the pets guarded as well using the flea & tick repellent on their backs. Pets were a bit uncooperative, but it worked. This is a process and I made it a ritual, it paid off. The light doesn't have to be really bright I used a 40 then a 25 watt bulb (no color) worked just as well. We didn't have UA-cam back then so I couldn't post this valuable information as a public service message. Good Luck.

Thats intersesting, I did a quick research on this and they cant hatch and survice if the Humidity is lower then 50 percent, but another intersting fact is how do they survive or Hibernate during the cold season or when humidity is low then suddenly emerge in the summer months ?, this baffled me. however another not so quick reseach revealed that in order for the fleas to survive the temperature has to be abover 0 Celcius and relative humidty, if the temp falls below - 0 they die by feezing, and funy thing is in Australia we dont get - 0 in all regions so the fleas has to migrate to a warmer environment somehow in order to survive and return back to its locations when the conitions are ideal.

To several people:They can exit the vacuum cleaner too. Stick Diatomaceous earth carefully on the carpet before you vacuum too so they die in there. also if you put it up in the corners and then vacuum to wake up the larvae, it'll cut up the larvae hopefully before they can get enough food. But it won't hurt you/pets; though it will harm worms inside their stomach&it's cheap. use food grade.

This works well with the a saucer upturned in a large flat dish of water, (like the one in the video) and a tea light candle on top, I used baby oil to float on top of the water not soap, but the idea is to light the candle b4 you go to bed, have the dish in the middle of the room and the fleas jump for the light (lit candle) and get stuck in the oily water and drown. If the candle topples over, no bother as its falling into water.

Thanks! I agree with you, but for a quick simple solution, if you alrday have baking sheets and a little water and soap, this is a good solution, it fits under the couch or bed and no one notices it nor does it get in the way.

I think oil works out better, because it takes longer to dry out, but can be messy if you trip over it.

To treat outside areas you can buy a IG flea regulator which is not a poison. Its extremely safe to use and mixes with water. It works by regulating the growth of fleas and making adults sterile. Its cheap and though there are commercial versions premixed you purchase. You can buy the pure concentrate and mix yourself at many feed stores or co-ops. Look it up for yourself as far as safety is concerned. Can also be used inside on carpets and bedding.

also in the past , when I did this, I noticed the fleas seemed to be attracted to certain colored dishes more.........I used a yellow Frisbee once, and they loved that ! honest. (and the frisbee made it small enough to slide under couch where pets could not fit !

Nice video. Some say to use a candle in the middle of the water, but thats dangerous. It works without a candle. I also use hot/warm water sometimes.

this water and soap dose kinda work.. but its dose not helping much for the cat or dog.. but i did learn if you mix Peroxide and with soup and water and spray around the rugs.. it will kill the fleas then you can use your cleaner and clean them up .. also rise your cat then put peroxide on him or her let sit for 10 mins or so if its bad it will kill the fleas plus you dont have to worry about tap worms

Sometimes the fleas make me really angry and everything goes black and next thing I know I have my hands around a flea's neck and he's limp! I can't explain it-it just happens. Maybe I should take a vacation or something. He must have been dead before I found him. That's what I'll tell the authorities. Yes. Yes. the flea was like that when I came in the room.

no, it just kills the ones that hop into it. You need to spray your yard or outside fleas will continue to get on your dog when outside.

@lilaznchris surface tension of the water makes the razor blade float, soap reduces srface tension and is added so fleas do not eassily float and escape.

@mrhulot101 also something most don't know, original dawn dish washing liquid is what us country folks have used for many years - a few drops in a light colored saucer with water set under a night light in hallway works good for the ones that hope off while you walk, and you can bathe the pets in dawn used like a hair cream softener / dampen pets hair, massage in plenty of dawn, let set at least 10 minutes, then rinse really good get all soap out, i've done it this way for years works good :)

Sticky tapes under an usb lamp also works. Keep replacing the sticky tapes weekly.
Sticky tapes under computer also works, they love the warmth.

You might wanna but a candle in the middle of that, to attract the fleas more, the light and especially heat of the candle will attract fleas alot better!
