it's because disability is still seen primarily through the medical lense. it's a medical problem. so the solution is medicine/technology. that's how people think disabled people need to be helped, to be cured/fixed/etc. it's also seen as a charity thing. especially if you can't be "fixed," people will try to "sympathize" with you as a way to help in their eyes. but it's actually pity, they don't even consider disabled people can be happy with themselves. they don't see it as a human rights issue or a diversity issue that needs attention in the media, politics, education, etc. they think it's just sad and a personal problem, not a systemic problem. so they think those individuals should just be pitied and hidden away and deal with it on their own.

Great video! So many people don't even think about being inclusive, it's just not on their radar! I speak to people about my inclusive story books all the time and they say, 'what a great idea, I've never thought about disability being included in story books'. ALL children need to see positive images of disability around them every day. This teaches acceptance, respect and understanding for the differences we all have. Looking forward to seeing your future videos! Best wishes, Lesley x.

I really think that this is one of your best videos. I'm curious to learn about your process of organizing your thoughts and doing these videos.

Happy to see you taking time for your UA-cam community where I first learned about your mission. You're doing a wonderful job in all of your photography and athletics. Thank you.
