  • We bought a concrete bird bath a few months ago and are finally able to get it set into place. We also clean up the Cana Lillies in the front flower bed, and translated one of our Coffee Cups colocasia plants into a new container for the back yard.

    Hi Guys, love your videos and I’m so glad you are in the same zone as me in Florida. It’s always helpful to see how your garden is doing. Because if something doesn’t work in your yard.. it probably won’t do well for me either. You both represent the community well! Love Whiskers too!

      I love to see some fellow Florida gardeners on here! We love working with our micro climates throughout the garden to all us to grow things we normally wouldn't be able to for our growing zone. Everything is always a trial with us, haha.

      New stuff is always fun. How are your Hydrangeas doing? I’ve never had luck with them, but this year trying again … so far so good. I’m also trying Japanese maples. We’ll see.

    Those canna lily seeds will germinate, I restart them inside every early spring haven’t had to rebuy them in two years now. Just scrap the seed coating because they are really hard, replant and you will have new free cannas!

    That birdbath is gorgeous, so it fits into your garden perfectly. Great tutorial on cana care! I had no idea that kind of care was even advisable much less effective. Your entire space is so immaculate that it's no surprise you clean as you go. Lamentably, that is not a characteristic I can claim. Lovely video, and I'm delighted it was longer, giving me more of an opportunity to appreciate your stunning progress.

    The canna lilies are beautiful, but how do you control the worms or caterpillars. I’m real sorry you had to deal with the effects of the hurricane, but I’m glad it wasn’t a bigger storm.

    • @MrGardeners
      @MrGardeners  Рік тому

      Thank you so much! We are grateful for a smaller storm as well. In terms of the caterpillars, we don’t do anything with them in our home garden. We know it’s only for a few weeks, and then they are gone. However, we also have a long growing season and others may not be so lucky. We use Diatomaceous Earth in our client gardens though, and it works great and is natural/gentle

    Is there anything you'd do to secure the birdbath during a hurricane, or are they sturdy enough? I also live in a hurricane prone area and want to get a birdbath, but not sure what to do with it during a storm.

    What can you do if root rotting happens- say on maybe on a Black lace elderberry bush?..! ?

    • @MrGardeners
      @MrGardeners  2 роки тому +1

      It depends on a few things! How large is the bush? How fast were you able to notice the damage. If the plant is manageable in size, dig it out and cut back the rotted roots. Mix one part 3% percent hydrogen peroxide with two parts water and carefully pour it over the plant's root system with a watering can or spray bottle. This will kill off the bacteria which causes root rot. This is when you would either site the plant in a new location of the garden, or amend the soil from the previous location with a better draining mix, and plant the root ball slightly higher than soil level. Hope this helps!

    How do you keep your birdbath clean and not a breeding ground for mosquitoes ? I live in SW Florida and am hesitant for that reason.

    • @MrGardeners
      @MrGardeners  Рік тому

      We periodically just brush it with a soft wire brush, but usually run fresh water through it daily to keep the gunk out of it. We've been doing this since we installed it, and have never seen mosquito larvae before.👍🏻

    Are cana lillies perennials?

    • @MrGardeners
      @MrGardeners  2 роки тому +2

      Hi K! They are annuals for most of the U.S., but in more tropical climates they will likely carry over, as long as you don't have too hard of a frost. In Tampa, they send up new shoots and keep growing. Keeping them fertilized helps a lot, especially for how many flowers each plant produces.

      @@MrGardeners I am thrilled to hear we can grow Cannas easily here in Tampa area.
      I love them, and will be adding that to my list. I love anything I can grow in pots, and yours was a perfect example. (I am too old to get on the ground these days, so no more in ground planting.for me)
