I take my Porsche 911 GT3 RS on a 500-mile road trip with the 911 ST to find out which is the best. And to make sure I'm telling the truth I take a lie detector test.

Garbage clickbait title and no one wants to buy parts from a no name website.

Did someone say Lexus GSF?
I'd take the S/T over the 3RS any day! These newer cars, for years now have no flex in the adhesive that holds the windscreen to the chassis/frame. It cracks much easier this way. Windscreen glass is actually fairly strong but all glass needs to be able to flex to prevent breakage.
Thanks for this, after the exact same thing happened to Seen Through Glass’s GT3 (also on a road trip) I was starting to think Porsche had gone cheap on build quality 😂
Glass is glass and glass breaks
@@rumenvasilev1172 Old glass did not break as easily, because how it was secured was different.
@@rumenvasilev1172 sudden jerry rig moment
@@rumenvasilev1172the gt3 lightweight glass is extremely thin and cracks very easily vs normal screens. I'm on 2nd screen within a year - some who track them a lot are on their 5th
One thing that really stood out on this video was just how wide the 992 is on a uk road. 997 anyone??
997.2 gt3 🙏🏼
@bobbydazzler8620 997 is the sweet spot for 911 I think. I'd always have a gt3 over the rs mainly for daily usability but saying that I'm not in a position to buy either haha,
@@stichupman nor is anyone else as they are virtually unobtainable in the UK. Try getting a build slot unless you are a very very special customer.

The look on Matt’s face when answering the ST lie detector questions, is a man holding on to life. He sooo badly doesn’t want to prefer the ST. Hahah
Let’s see how many times Mat changes the thumbnail and titel
22min later: 3x titel and thumbnail
26min later: 4x thumbnail 3x titel
29min later: 5x thumbnail 4x titel
33min later: 6x thumbnail 4x titel
So? What difference does that make to your life?
They are watching views coming in and seeing what titles get more views.
Food on the table lad
The ST spec is absolutely beautiful, the tan interior just looks amazing
I like how everything developed in terms of porsches: At first the world went crazy when the new GT3RS was released however many people realised all they wanted is right there and so the S/T was the new object of desire
BOT
@1:23 did you walk into your splitter? Lmao 😅
I think the standard GT3 is the perfect car!
Same! I'd have it over both of these!
Standard GT3 or the GT3 touring
@SkunkworksProps the st is an objectively better road car since it's been tweaked for road use whereas the touring is still largely identical to the base gt3
It's a better deal because it's much cheaper, but the S/T is by far the better car.
@@frisos8850 Standard GT3. I say this knowing it's not a choice I'm ever likely to be faced with.
Paused this at 3 seconds..... I reckon title is clickbait as per...... let's see!
There are three dots after the title. This infers ‘maybe’. It’s not a click bait title.
@@thejfg7741 It is clickbait. Stop defending Mat, he doesn't know you lil bro
@@adrian8423 it’s not, you’ve not understood what the three dots mean in a title
@@adrian8423 It isn’t. He ended up liking the st, stop defending rorybeanz, he doesn’t know you lil bro.
@@thejfg7741 How do the three dots imply a maybe? A question mark would imply a maybe no? Three dots just indicate an incomplete thought which doesn't automatically mean 'maybe' and definitely not in a title. As for whether it's click bait or not, he never explicitly says he is selling the car, he just says he'd rather own an S/T, so I'd classify that as click bait. But I have been watching carwow and Mat long enough to know that every title is a lie and I never trust it or the thumbnail.
It makes sense. The GT3 RS is a track car. If you took it to the track every other weekend, you'd never consider replacing it with the S/T, even a GT3 manual would be a better option. But for the road? Hands down, the S/T is the dream. I'd buy it with the comfy seats, no roll cage, and black-on-black or black with a fun exterior color and drive the hell out of it.
9:10 you're in trouble alright she's not impressed
Someone should check if he's still alive

I love how Porsche still preserve a 911 model with a manual transmission. Looking forward for Matt and Sam drag a 911 st against a manual Mustang 😎
At 14:22 that red Porsche 911 still looks good though 😮
race with a manual Mustang? maybe for fun cuz the 911 would absolutely smoke that
@@notaname00 well, not just any mustang. I was talking about the Mustang Dark Horse version. 911 might have more power but Dark Horse has more torque. Both models are on rear wheel drive too.
@@erikpapaplays i mean the porsche gonna have a better launch than the mustang
@@notaname00 no doubt on that since Porsches have a great reputation in launching, but with an AWD set up like the 911 Turbo. I dont know about the RWD Porsches like the ST version.
@@erikpapaplays it still pretty good, just not as good as awd
Love the license plate on the ST! 😂❤ “A 911”
it should be LA 911
ST beats GT3RS on every day of the week for me, looks awesome is more rare and epic design of colors & matching interior
The GT3 RS is a good, modern car. The 911 ST, however, is incredibly joyful and its eye-pleasingly vibrant color. Both the exterior and interior colors have a classic, vintage appearance.
2:02 s/t stall time 😂
12:47 worried about low gasoline, a moment later burning as much gasoline as possible :)
Man, UA-cam censorship is crazy. I suggested that politicians should do the test that Matt did at the end and my comment got wiped instantly.
Best part of the video is the ad, featuring the whole family and the oil stop. Your partner’s expression is priceless.

As a restorer of early air-cooled 911's and owner of a 986 Boxster, I'd love to try a modern manual 911 and see just how much 911'ness is retained in the 991/992's.
They look enormous to me, but suspect as soon as you sit in them they shrink around you.
Do the Porsche Experience. I did it a few weeks ago, you get to drive a 992 round their handling circuit for 90 minutes so you get a really good feel for the car.
In my opinion the 992 has very little 911 left in it. The C2S I drove felt soft, lacked feedback and had absolutely no sensation of being rear engined whatsoever. I would prefer my 997 any day, it was a real eye opener.
If I wanted a nice daily driver the 992 would be great, but that's not what I want from a 911.
@@pjay3028 Thank you, that's a great idea. I drove a C2 manual 997 a few years back. That absolutely felt like a proper 911 to me and I had a 2.4E at the time.
Try a 991.1 GTS, 991.2 GT3 if you want to get a feel for the 991. Truly magnificent in my opinion.
They're mini-Panameras now. 996 or 997 still have it, though.
@@EvoraGT430 I'll take a 7/10th scale one please 😊
Those cars are such a joy to drive
I love that RS but that’s wing on street car just looks ridiculous.
You end up looking like a cosplaying racer in traffic next to minivans, most people trailer to the tracks. To each their own I suppose, but like the cyber truck people aren’t thinking it’s “cool “
I'm surprised you didn't buy the S/T to replace the RS. I know you like the flashy looks, but the S/T is just better for the road.
4:10 ainoway bro took out the car the wife didnt want for a road trip, had it break down and then proceeded to film an advert. Matt you best sleep with one eye open from now onwards xD
Both cars are excellent! The GT3RS is a head-turner 😍👌🏻
If configuring on Porsche UK the ST is over 30k more before extras. I've never driven anything like one of these cars but if I was ordering one I would be buying the Turbo S. More daily usability. All the car you would ever need.
Problem is you lose money big time on Turbo S so logical thinking goes out the window and people buy a lightly sanitised 911 race car instead
@volkswizard I agree they are better long term financial propositions and I'm probably getting old but I would just want the car that can do everything. For the same money I'd probably buy an RS6 and a Cayman GT4.
Modern 911 have become to big to enjoy on UK roads, you would have more fun in something the size of a Cayman RS4 or bmw M2
Bit ironic as the m2 itself is as large as the old m3 f80
@@davidkato1150 the M2 is 1871mm wide that gt3 RS is 2027mm, that's a big difference on UK roads, you would have more fun on a B road in an e46 or an ep3 or even an old mini as you would in that porsche
ST is definitely more prestigious, but its a collectors item to enjoy driving during the weekend, while the GT3 RS is a track weapon.
I like Sam.. We need to see more of him.. GT3RS hands down 😁🇬🇧👍🏻
If I was lucky enough I would go for the ST, it just looks more refined. Matt get that steering wheel cleaned, shiny leather is dirty leather in your cayenne.
25:06 That was hilarious 😂🤣
ST for me, the dream Porsche, an almost perfect blend of old an new for me
The GT3 RS is the one to have (for former Fiesta RS turbo owners).
However, both need to moderate the UPF and use the scales more often.
Id take a turbo S over both. Way more comfortable.
Love the S/T. Save the manuals! If your going to use petro/gas then enjoy every blip of the throttle
St for me just because the GT3 rs has become the poster car for Porsche over the last few years and has been over saturated.
Racing driver Sam is the one friend you can count on always
The Porsche ambassador that never drives his car must be in fantastic condition ready to resell 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂🤣
Loved it you took the old Cayenne on holiday. My wife and I took our 2008 Cayenne Turbo all over Europe and YEP I did have 4 bottles of oil in the boot..ps avoid Italy got window broken by criminals but decided not to let it ruin our holiday yet 2 days later it happened again. The next day someone decided to poor acid all over the hood....poor Cayenne. Yet good Cayenne Turbo memories ❤
Ps put me on that lie machine and I will have to confess that I preferred my old Cayenne to my brand new one...😅
Sam’s reasoning for choosing the ST was poetic! Well said, sir.
I haven't seen this vid. Just jumped in to say: NO!
You bought the irl Batmobile. The coolest vehicle whose rubber dares to grace the roads. Stick with it!
I would have ST without brown interior and the normal seats not the bucket seats
I hear Amazon wants to continue the grand tour with new presenters, Matt, yianni and racing driver Sam would be a fantastic trio to takeover! Make it happen Amazon! 😂
Ok the lie detector admitting he preferred the st was funny
Most people will be much better off with the ST. The GT3 RS is a track car and requires you being able to drive, it is likely why we so many being crashed. The RS looks much better, it's one of the most aggressive cars on the road. A larger percentage of the cars life will be held on the road.
To enjoy the Porsche GT3RS you have to be right on the limit and at a much higher speed, the ST you will be getting close to 100% of it's limitations which you can get to on a public road.
Really they are aimed at two different kind of drivers. The ST reminds me of the same qualities in a Mazda MX5, it's pure driving without any interference.
It comes down to where will you be using the car the most and what you want out of the car.
Gonna throw a curve ball n say i think it'd prefer a 911 Turbo s as it does all things n what is left over get a beater of a MX5.
THIS! MORE OF THIS!
Clicky gear changing is boring eventually in a Porsche or Ferrari - you gotta go manual transmissions it’s another league of driving . If you have a lot of affordable close track access and care about times for some reason then okay click away
Totally agree. I wouldn't trade my V6 RWD manual F-type for a V8 only available as an auto with flaps despite the 150 HP difference. Besides, the exhaust sound is just glorious. It's engagement over power for me any day of the week.
I wonder if that window crack could have anything to do with the faulty glue used in some models, even though Mat's model was not one of them.
I love the classic looks of the S/T - I think its rear end needs a classic duck tail spoiler to really set it off.
Had our 992 GT3 glass crack while in storage. Porsche replaced it under a technical service bulletin.
I still remember he said he was going to have a kid in a old Porsche bmw comparison video 😢 time flies by so fast
Love seeing family side of Matt!
9:11, as a loving husband/partner, you are always in trouble.
ST looks much better than the GT3RS & not to mention the manual you get as well . I never liked the GT3RS of this generation
There’s a Porsche recall on the windscreens on these cars in the US.
There is in the uk too, it's just to check the bonding seal though on front and rear glass, not for the glass itself.
The tendency to tram line, or follow changes in road surface camber, is probably NOT inherent in the ST just because it's an ST. The biggest factor will simply be the front end toe setting. In other words, you can dial that tendency up or down in either car.
I, myself, have been in this position, recently
What do you choose, in The Ultimate Performance Battle?
The better car vs the better drive. The best of the automatic breed vs the last of the manual breed
I chose the C7 Z06 7-speed because it is the last, and best, manual Corvette you can ever get
Great choice
Anyone who really ever thought that Matt was ever gonna keep the RS long term is smokin crystal.
ST 🥺🥺🔥🔥 that gearbox its special
I'd love to shift it...
I love both the cars. One looks something crafted by Cupid and the other crafted by Hades. I can’t decide which one I’ll buy in my dreams😅
Driving a couple Porsches across the UK would be a great way to spend a day.
6:46 looks like a stress fracture mat, might be worth getting on to Porsche …. Same issues happen on mclarens
I heard that's quite common for GT3 cars. One UA-camr said he needs to replace the windscreen regular. Probably because the glas is thin and you drive fast with the car, so stones make more damage. Especially if you have another fast car in front of you. (Like in this video)
The lie detector at the end lmao 🤣
Gt3rs of 992 generation is pointless for anything except flex or track. ST will keep value very well, best middle ground is regular GT3 or touring. Best value porsche rn is 991.1 gts NA 2wd
The S/T is the best Porsche in years. I love it
That is so funny! Thanks for your transparency Matt. I love both cars for different reasons: the 3RS is so outrageous looking/sounding/driving, how could you NOT love it on any road or track. The S/T is really the last modern drivers car and more practical and under the radar. I would have a hard time choosing also!
Got a very similar situation with my V6 F-type RWD manual transmission. Everyone says get a V8 because they've never ever driven a manual F-type. When you do, on roads shown here, you just won't care that it has 150hp less as it just doesn't matter.
When Mat test-drove the S/T when it debuted, It was clear that his mind was turning. It's the daily driver version of the RS. If I lived near a track like Limerock or the Nurburgring, I'd take the GT3RS. But if 98% of your driving involves motorways, b-roads, S/T.
3:52 Would've been so funny if you said "I've got an impatient child in the car with me... and I have my little daughter in the baby seat", lol 🤣
This would have then been Mat's last video ever
These buddy comedy road trips are great. 😂
Mat’s been working out look at those arms!
It’s from carrying all of the bags of cash he gets shilling undeclared ads on his content. :P
Of course you want Me! the ST. I am a car with history, a sense of dignity and decorum it's the choice for the perfectionist rather than the head banger.
In my world, I’d be completely satisfied with a 911 Touring GT3 without the scaffolding please
Wait, Mat has GT3 RS? Would NEVER have known. I swear at this point he’s going door to door telling inhabitants of the arctic circle about it. At least he’s fulfilling his obligations to Porsche I guess. Maybe next time declare it properly. ASA will have a field day.
I own 992 touring and did install ST clutch and flywheel. It transformed car dramatically, such an experience, it’s hard to drive , actually it’s harder to start moving but ones you on the move it’s so fast reving . I put 5k miles in 4 months and can not stop driving. I totally agree is just so much fun to drive lower grip high powered car. (Not that gt3 is low grip but much less than RS) over all I think it’s just a pinnacle of engineering (I have a touring with ST parts not real ST) I do not see any other manual modern car delivering such a experience priced under million .Great video!!!!
Ever tried a manual F-type V6 RWD? The sound and engagement are hard to beat.
@@JWL-UKno I did not try jag, but I also have V8 M3 manual with custom exhaust and it’s really really good but nothing comes close to GT3 with race clutch
Mat, do you not think that could have been something to do with that recall you said gt3 rs's had with the bonding on the windscreen? maybe they accidently damaged abit at the top and now its just cracked..?
This is why Im keeping my 992 GT3 with the 6 speed manual. Drives better than the S/T with the 4 wheel steering and has a Frunk unlike the GT3RS. On public roads its all about the manual... even though the PDK is quicker on the track.
everyone knows it's the ST, I just scrapped my GT3 RS when I spotted the ST had been released
They're both awesome, but it would be the ST for me, as it doesn't yell "I wish I was Batman!" 🤣
good thing, atleast you make sense.
These first world problems are so painful. I don't know how such people live day to day
Window cracking is common on all GT3’s, probably wasn’t even a stone that caused it, just the window flexing. For the little weight saving against the hassles of replacement I wish Porsche would have used the standard glass.🙄
Common problem in those cheap cars...
gt3rs is an unbelievable track weapon... having never driven one but according to stuff I heard on UA-cam its only that. it is a magnificent piece of machinery if you are towing it from one track or another. but most of enjoyment you get from a car is more that track days. its being able to take it on a road trip, being able to actually drive it to a track day and not regretting it... that's why I believe the sweet spot on the 992 line up is not the 3rs, not the gt3 or even the turbo s... I believe it's the new gts.
Loved it! One of your most engaging and definitely funniest vides till date. The lie detector bit was hilarious 😂🤣 😂 !!!
The spec of that ST is simply perfection!
I feel like I've seen on Rennlist that cracking glass on the 992's have been an issue.
Well one things for sure, Porsche shouldn’t be following FORD PERFORMANCE when naming their top 911 models…
RS & ST ?
Watching these subsequent videos of Porsche GT3 RS ownership is interesting.
For all the hype it is still just a car that seems to have many issues and expensive at that.
The coverings, the rocks accumulating in the aero gear and undercarriage, the broken windshield.
And the human heart never seems to be fully satisfied. Always the hope the next one. And we become familiar and the excitement fades.
It has been good for my struggles with envy…a reality check. There is no perfect car that fulfills one’s desire for perfection.
I've been told that there has been an issue with GT3 screens cracking due to some issue with the adhesive thats used.
CLICKBAIT HE'S NOT SELLING.
Cheers mat, £33 saved on 4 new ignition coils. Literally had them in my basket before dinner, then put this on to watch and bang 25% off 🫡👏🏼
The crack is caused by sticking the camera on the windscreen that causes pressure on the glass that's why
Right at the end...the final decision for which car you would own boils down to ease of usability and diversity.
Running around in a hard focused car on a daily basis is sometimes tiring.
Been there.
Many times.
It is a stone chip. The tiny white dot along the crack is it. The glass is very ridged at the edge due to the glue being behind it and the smallest of impacts can do that.
Perfect place to test a fast car, 20mph speed limit!
I’m biased as I went all in for an S/T allocation (I’m not a Porsche VIP), but outside of the GMA T50, you basically can’t get a high revving NA engine and a manual transmission experience for less than $3M
That ST is gorgeous, all you need on a public road...plus backseats😊
ST all day. Mat really trying hard to convince himself he prefers his own car instead
