Thanks mate, 10g is outside of typical LRF weights but if its within your rods casting rating then go for it, you'll have great sport regardless 🙂 I always try to fish with single hooks if I can although it does make hooking garfish a bit more tricky 👍🎣
@@DevonLerfer ok cheers mate, on my Dexter wedges I use two single hooks, one on the front and one on the back but have never managed to hook a garfish on them, the only ones I have landed have been on a jerk bait with trebles 🎣🎣🐟
Yeah they can be incredibly frustrating to hook can't they. One thing I've found does help is to pause for a couple of seconds after a garfish first hits 👍🎣
Audrius Palaima hi mate, I reckon 4m would be enough there but I often have to use all 5.9m of my handle from some piers, obviously depends on the state of the tide too :)
hey just want say awesome video and what great fun you guys had hey :-) :-) garfish is one im yet to catch tho and im due to go to wey mouth end of july for 2 weeks am taking my spinning rods and other stuff as i usually go for some fun with kids for wrasse but are the gar fish about in end july time ect as i havent try them yet and fairly new to the sea fish ect have only been wrasse fishing in weymouth and had some nice sized wrasse(used rag worms as bait) but any info and tips what i may catch there at this times of the year, this time am taking 3inch slug n go soft plastics set as weedless i like try that for bigger wrasse who knows hey maybe get lucky also will pop down portlandbill to try them and best times of the day morning/evening ? any info be great thanks :-)
thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the video 👍 I think this early run of Garfish will move off soon but I'm told they begin to move back in some time in June so you should find plenty when you visit! Small metals are good for Garfish, they take some hooking and landing but they are great fun. We were catching them all through the day but I think evening is a good time to get out after all the pelagics, you may find Scad and Bass then too. I'm a big fan of Wrasse fishing so that's interesting that you've had some nice ones around Weymouth, do you catch them around the harbours? Tight lines mate 👍🎣
thanks for the reply and thats great to hear they should still be around end july time when i next there and i have really like the look of these garfish and one im yet to catch i will buy the small wedge you used i think :-) had afew in the harbor and of the stone pier also the wooden peir straight opposite the stone wall pier round the back of northe fort is a good wrasse spot lots of rocks and weeds round there always had plenty wrasse there as i say had couple there over a pound is a under estimated guess they were on rag worms so i hear the larger are best on the small plastics like slug n go senko ect so i got me a pack of them to try out this time round fingers crossed i get a new pb :-)
Hoping to head down to fish either Weymouth harbour or around Portland with my boy in the next week or so...you may know - are you allowed to fish inside West Bay harbour/marina or whatever you call it? Awesome video as usual. Thanks
Phil Uniacke Hi Phil, I've fished inside West Bay harbour and not been stopped so I assume it's ok, I don't recall seeing any signs or anything. Good luck if you do go down. Cheers 👍🎣
Great video as always. Looks like good sport. Nice to see them go back. Could you say what make the landing net is? Looks like a useful bit of kit. Thanks for the video. Cheers
Is there an easy way of switching between dropshot etc and gig heads without replacing the mono each time? If I go gig head 1st and then want to do drop shot I always tend to tie hook on upside down any tips much appreciated thanks
Some people pre tie dropshot rigs with a little clip or swivel to attach to the main line but it's not ideal. I don't know of a quick fix unfortunately mate. I use the Palomar knot for the dropshot hook knot which I find makes it easier to make sure the hook is the right way up 👍
@@DevonLerfer haha, 10 is still good though. I am happy when I land 1 or 2 😋. What lure you get most success with? A small spoon? And do you use a single hook on your spoon?
@@chizzyfishing cheers man, it was a pretty epic day. I little 5g Dexter wedge copy was most successful that day, I also had a few on a 7g HTO Fugitive 👍 and yeah I like to change trebles for singles when possible 🙂
awesome catches on those garfish. pretty good sized fish n they look so fun to catch on the light tackle
Thanks mate, some of them were a good size, especially on LRF tackle. They are great fun, hopefully they'll be back in numbers soon!
Great stuff. I my self really enjoy fishing for garfish where I am in Cornwall find just very chilling fist thing in the morning
Thanks Trent! Yeah garfish are great fun aren't they, I really enjoy targeting them 🙂🎣
Really good video and a amazing days fishing. Keeping meaning to get down and give it ago myself. Keep up the good work
Moody fish thanks man, it was a fun day! You should get down and have a go 👍🎣
Thanks for sharing bro! Another "Fin"tastic LRF video.
zeke fishy ha! Thanks man 😁👍
zeke fishy oh dear 😂
you've got my attention so you have a new subscriber bro. Keep sharing!
nice vid mate, just wondering is a 10g dexter too heavy for an lrf rod and also did you use the wedge with single or treble hooks

Planned to go there today, but unfortunately couldn’t make it, great video 👍🏻
Audrius Palaima Thanks man. Hope you manage to get there soon, those Gar are awesome fun 🙂👍🎣
Just one more question mate how long do you need the landing net handle to be, fishing from the pier?
Audrius Palaima hi mate, I reckon 4m would be enough there but I often have to use all 5.9m of my handle from some piers, obviously depends on the state of the tide too :)
Devon Lerfer ok thanks mate
Good video lad, I've yet to catch some garfish.
Tight lines 👍🏼
Immy Bravv thanks mate, I hadn't caught one until last year. Hopefully they'll be back close to shore soon.

Good luck mate, hope the Garfish are around for you! 👍🎣
Well done lads good result and got your lines wet at last....
Robert Mortimore cheers mate, it was much needed! 👍
Plenty of garfish, fun fish to catch on light gear especially when they launch out the water.

Martyn Fletcher Thanks mate. The net head is a Daiwa Tip n Tilt and the handle is a Daiwa iso 5.9m
Brilliant. Thanks mate. A trip to Ebayland for me then.
Awsome vidio what landing net pole is that you're using ?
Thanks mate! That's a Daiwa Iso 5.9m pole, very useful when fishing from piers and harbours 🙂

@@darrenrodd. haha practice makes perfect mate. I still manage to do it too sometimes!
3 weeks ago there were millions of Garfish here in Weymouth now NONE, were all waiting for the Mackerel
David Storton yeah I did hear they move back out for a while, thankfully a few other species are waking up now!
I love fishing for garfish/needlefish, but they are so hard to hook. They are aggressive and I get many bites, but rarely get them out of the water 😐
Haha I have exactly the same problem mate, that session I think I landed 10 but had hits and hook ups all day long, very frustrating 😁

@@chizzyfishing no problem mate. Yeah slow steady retrieve or a few flicks followed by a pause. Good luck 👍
when is the best period for garfish in Weymouth?
There was a run of them in March/April last year, the place was full of them. If not, then Autumn into early winter seems best 👍
@@DevonLerfer Many thanks for your reply!
6:40 that was a Big Garfish, not a Marlin :)
Fishing Team Alonissos 2 Yeah I know man, we don't get Marlin here 😁 was a joke as was a big Garfish 🙂
Another great video mate, you in weymouth area for long?
Luckyfisherman thanks mate, we just visited for the day, will be going back soon though!
Let me know when, could meet up if your keen
Luckyfisherman yeah definitely mate, will let you know when I'm down next 👍
Nice video.
What does SP's stand for? When you say "metal", you mean jig metal?
Thanks a lot.
Jose Angel Ares Hi Jose, SP's is just soft plastic lures and yes metals is metal jigs. Thanks 👍🎣
Do you eat fish?☺️
I do, but release most of what I catch. I do like to keep a couple of Mackerel if I catch them towards the end of the day though!
Devon Lerfer good I love eating fish too.
SCALES EVERYWHERE ! HAhaha
Haha thats the standout memory of that day mate. Brilliant fun but so messy, and stinky! 😁👍🎣
