Love your channel and videos. I’ve been waiting for this one as I currently have a wine country camera system but hardly have the time to get out and use it shooting 10 hours a day 150 days a year in studio. So where do we make our gripes to Nikon to get things working better? I gave the Z7 a try a couple years ago when it first came out but wasn’t nearly evolved enough for full-time heavy studio use. My only big gripe right now as I’m currently making my transition back to Nikon (with the purchase of two Nikon Z7ii’s) is manual focus is pretty much useless with such a huge lag between making an adjustment on the focus ring and seeing it on the display/viewfinder. Not only is it very laggy but it is very distorted when magnified. I’m shooting with Sony a 7R3’s currently and waiting for capture one to fully support so I can make my full switch back to Nikon. The Sony manual focus is amazing, zooms in automatically when you focus and there is absolutely no focus lag from the focus ring to the monitor/viewfinder and the zoomed in focus magnification is crystal clear. Really hoping Nikon will do some catering to the full-time studio shooter. Would be nice to see the viewfinder and monitor neutralize under tungsten lighting as well. I do appreciate how life like an optical like the colors and contrast are but it would be nice to have a studio setting so the camera knows it’s under tungsten lighting to give a neutral image. OK, that was a long rant. With all that said I’ve already got all the 2.8 S zooms and waiting on my 50/1.2 and hopefully the 105 micro gets out soon as well as the 85/1.2.
Thank you for all of your wonderful videos. You helped me decide to upgrade from a D750 to the Z7 II. I went for this primarily because I had to part-ex all my glass bar the 24-70 F2.8 and 85 1.8 prime so needed the larger file sizes so I could crop in post production. I have noticed that your Z bodies have a frame around them, is this a universal cradle for tripod and accessories to mount on? I am intrigued.

It has become apparent to me that the NiSi 100 mm Filter holder for Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S also is compatible with the Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S and the Z 70-200mm f/2.8. I assume there is a correlation between the outer lens diameter and the diameter of the bayonet hood mount. Now what I find really interesting is that the Z 14-30mm f/4 S has the same outer lens diameter - 3.5 in / 89 mm - as the 24-70mm f/2.8 S and the 70-200mm f/2.8 S - which could indicate that the holder also is compatible with the Z 14-30mm f/4 S. I'd really appreciate if you could comment or make a "part 2" - summing this up. PS: NiSi does makes a 100 mm square CPL which I suppose is compatible with the filter holder - or?
There are UA-camrs like you who actually use the products extensively before they review them and offer actual valuable information to photographers, and then there are self-proclaimed photography gurus without a portfolio who make negative Nikon videos in their basement every day without having any portfolio beyond snapshots of horses and cats. Whilst (as a Nisi user) this is great news the biggest problem the 14-24 2.8 has is that the 14-30 f4 exists. I'd rather the size and weight for a small drop in IQ. Great vid as always
Thank you for the very informative video, great as usual and some lovely sample images. I use polarizers on the 14-24 f2.8S especially for waterfall shots for clearing reflections from the water and leaves and bringing out the colour of foliage etc. I do not use it for skies etc due to graduation effect as you point out. However, NiSi has a 100mm square polarizer that works perfectly for waterfalls etc and polarization effect works when the holder slots are either vertically or horizontal to the lens so you do not get vignetting at 14mm. You can even stack it with an ND, which I also do from time to time.
I'm a big fan of NiSi filters. My 100mm filters work great with my new Z lenses including the 14-30 Z. As compared to other filters, NiSi delivers quality in a small package.
Happy New Year! I'm not planning on buying the 14-24 any time soon (sticking with the 14-30) but I do use NiSi filters (V6) and I'd certainly get the new holder if/when I spring for the 14-24.
I have the 14-24mm f2.8 and the Nisi holder and love them both. I found out something by accident the holder also fits the Z 24-70mm 2.8 as well so I am a very happy less gear to carry.
Holy Crap! My Z 14-24 2.8 S lens arrived! NiSi sent me a NiSi 112mm Circular Natural CPL Filter. Wow, WOW, WOW! The rendering is gorgeous! Now I need a sleeve/case to hold the Filter with the HB-97 Shade Filter Holder Attached. I guess my Z 14-30 F4 S is going to get a rest for a while. Nikon does it again!
Yeah man I’m thinking about picking up this lens but the filter size was putting me off. I contacted Nisi yesterday and they told me that they had this 100mm kit that also fit the lens. That’s great for me because I’m already deeply invested in 100mm filters that work on basically all of my equipment so I didn’t want to have to upgrade all of my filters. The thing is there isn’t a circular polarizer that works with it but they turned me on to a 100mm square polarizer that has different degrees of polarization depending on how you place it in the holder. So yeah you just mentioned that too while I was typing haha... you always cover all the bases 🙂
Hi Ricci, Thank you for all your great job. I have Nikon Z lenses 14-24 f/2,8, and 24-70 f/2,8. Could i have only one hold filter which fits for both or do i have to buy 1 for the specific 14-24 and 1 for the other lenses ? Thanks for your help 🙏🙂

Hello Ricci, First of all please have an amazingly good 2021, keeping well and safe while been as happy as you can. I know I have just about four weeks ago got me Z7ii and are still using the FTZ adaptor but have made the sedition that the 14-24mm F2.8 will be my first Z lens. Is there a way of attaching a small bit of rubber to the end of the locking screw to help prevent this damage/marking? Sorry about this next question I like many have a number of Lee filters do they this holed?
I absolutely think you could attached a very small piece of either rubber or felt to stop it scratching You can use Lee filters in the holder too just be aware the ND gaskets are different shapes

Just chiming in here: the holder that comes with the kit actually clips on the v5 and presumably the v6 adapter rings too (the one that holds the polariser). If you already use any of the previous NiSi systems, you can use this filter holder instead of carying two separate holders for the system
Not having a polarizer solution for a filter system designed for landscape photographers is a bad miss on NiSi's part. I am surprised that you don't use them, but to each his own I guess. Now that bit about uneven polarization is a stretch. Yes using a polarizer on ultra-wide-angle lenses are a challenge but there are still a lot of use cases when a polarizer is very useful. Also, the uneven polarization is more of a problem when you shoot the blue sky, in that case, most landscape photographers reduce the amount of sky in the frame unless they are trying to go for a minimalist image. On the other hand, polarizers totally change the outcome for woodland photography, water elements etc.
I ebayed all my square filters, polariser and holder some time ago and moved to circular screw-in filters for NDs and polarisers. I don’t need grad filters with Lr offering a much more controlable way of dealing with dynamic range. NiSi do a wonderful 112mm CPL that screws into the lens hood of the Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 and is extremely uniform in its polarisation across the scene. I’m guessing Nicci doesn’t do wet leaves and isn’t keen on cutting lake/river reflections.
nice tuto. what isyour red L-bracket ? just purchased a z14-30mm F/4 and I am interested with V7 system. i am also interested with natural night filter. Are you familiar with it ? I hesitate between a 82mm circular one very easy to install, compact and with less flare with city lights with a lens hood and a 100x100mm one. Does a 82mm circular one create more vignetting ? does it happen we cascade a natural night with another filter (GND for sunset over a cityscape ?)
Thanks Ricci, I realy enjoy your videos. Question, how do pack your holders, filters etc in your bag? I have the same setup for my 14-24 2.8. The V6 front version is not in the bag anymore, hoever I have kept the V6 attachment holder to be able to use the two slots filterholder on my 24-70 2.8 and the 70-200 2.8.
The Nisi approach is great when on has a collection of 100mm filters as it allows for positioning the ND transition line with graduated filters. The Kase approach does not work with graduated ND filters.
Have you tested the Nikonˋs own filter hood? There is some discussion on the dpreview that the filter hood of the 14-24s will also mount to 24-70s2.8 and 70-200s lenses.

Iv done some landscape tests between the f2.8 and the f4 the main difference seems to be in corner sharpness but Iv not done my full tests on them yet it’s on the list to do .... The Zelda fits the Z7ii and works great for me but it dosnt allow full use of every accessory and port as I don’t use remotes ect it’s not a problem for me
I think that was a huge drawback for a lot of people when it came down to owning an F mount 14-24 F2.8 lens, is that you had to have that 150x150mm filters which are just soooo expensive. P.s.: still secretly waiting for your 180-400 F4 review :D
Hey any luck getting a Z6ii vs Z7ii for low light and auto focus speed/accuracy? With my Z6 and Z7 there was a clear winner, just wondering with the new bodies, I’ve upgraded to Z6ii but still have my Z7. Thank you for your work.
Hi Ricci I have been searching through your vids for the follow up vid about filters and landscape photography but don’t seem to be able to find it (maybe you can give me a link or something) I have not done much landscape but your vids have inspired me, I am waiting for my Z9 to arrive and intend to buy a 14-30 for it to get into landscape. I have been looking at the Nisi web site and they have a range of kits available and I wondered if you have any suggestions on which would be the best kit for someone like me. Although I have a good range of F mount lenses I don’t have anything so wide hence the reason I am waiting for the Z9 to arrive. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Hello Ricci. Happy new year. This year I will be buying Z6II with 14-30 f4. I will be getting V6 100mm filter system. Will it be a good pair??. I noticed that 14-30 has a lot of vignetteing. Many saw files I saw re pretty dark in cornor at f8. Will this system add more vignettes??.
Iv not had any issue with the thousands of shots taken on my 14-30 vignettes are easy to correct for in post and as long as you expose correctly for the filters you won’t add more vignettes to the images
Thanks for a very helpful and informative video. Although it looks like a good product, probably the best option for system filter users, I'm done with having to carry multiple adaptors and holders. If you don't use grad filters, I personally think Kase's new magnetic 112mm filters are the best option. Worth checking out if, like many photographers, you don't use grad filters anymore.
I still think grads are essential there’s been plenty of times where without a grad I would not of been able to shoot for as long or compensate for the exposure difference from a bright sky to a dark foreground
Really nice shots, love the river at 11:49. Maybe they could rubberize the end of the screw so there's less danger of scratching the lens/hood, aside from that looks like a good filter system.
I wish however there was a way to use the SW150 system with the new 14-24 f2.8 Z lens. I have a huge investment in this SW150 gear and really do not want a hugely obsolete system laying around, and needing to spend gobs of money on a new system. . It would be nice to have some type of adapter.
I can't speak for the NiSi 14-24 ring, but I do know that the hb-97 112mm filter hood for the 14-24 will fit on the 24-70, 50 1.2, 70-200, and possibly the 14-30, so it might be possible.
If you could use a 100mm square filter in front, why must the polarizer be 112mm instead of 100mm?If you want to use a square filter on top of the 112mm polarizer, do you need a 150mm filter, no reviewers seem to have answered this question.
Polarizer at 14mm is silly. However, I also think a ultra wide angle 2.8 is silly. You stop these things down for landscape, real estate, etc. The 14-30 is stellar. Maybe in the old days when the faster lenses where much sharper all around. Astro? Well use a fast prime. Faster and much cheaper.
It’s on the list I’m constantly editing to try and get everything out Iv got some great comparison shots for the TC’s just need to sit down and edit them in to a video 🤣

I didn't understand what concerns the pin that scratch the hood. Is this pin necessary? Should it be screwed? Or should you ignore it so as not to scratch the lens hood? Thank you.
The dam doesn’t have water flowing over it it uses these drain holes to allow water to flow under the dam. If the water level gets to low the water will not fall in to the hole allowing the water level to rise again
The polarizing effect of a polarizing filter is depending on the viewing direction in general and especially relatively to the sunlight. Therefore it is more or less senseless to use it with an ultra wide angle lens. The angular field for the 14-24 mm is 114° to 84°. This is almost a right angle and wider. Imagine using a polarizing filter in one direction and then turning your view 90° to one side or the other. The polarizing effect changes and can be dramatically different. With a lens like this you would have this angle depending effect within one picture frame.
When pointing a wide angle lens at the blue cloudless sky the "Banding" effect it is very apparent and should be avoided. However, for looking through water or other types of reflections it is one thing that can't be replicated in post processing. This also is apparent when objects like leaves, flowers, cars, streets.... are coated in water the polarizer cuts out the reflection showing the color of the underlying objects. And, on lenses with less wide angles of view polarizers can help to cut through haze and fog which is vapor reflecting light.
@Jim Owens Thanks Jim! I didn't want to downplay the use of a polarizer in general. I like to use it myself. But the efficacy of a polarizer is depending on the angle of the polarization plane of the incoming light. That's physics and applies also on the effect of looking through the reflective surface of water. I just wanted to make clear that on an ultra wide angle lens a polarizer is not very useful or only of very limited use.
You apply filters in post processing but you can’t end up with the same result as using a set of filters you will add noise when lifting a shadow and it’s easy to burn out bright highlights if you arnt careful
Quite disappointing, this impossibility to use and rotate a CP. And strange, because the Nisi special adapter for the 19mm tilt shift Z-mount allows me to use and rotate a CP... Of course, it works with the S5 holder and takes/requires the big 150mm filters.
The polariser feature on the V6 holder is so flimsy that I do not use it anymore on my Z14-30 f/4. Therefore I bought Kase Magnetic, man that works like a dream.

Iv used lee for years and know them very well. Iv even trained with Lee. Lee are making a filter holder for the 14-24 so when I get to try that I’ll also let everyone know what I think ! But sadly the resin graduated filters are not as sharp as the glass grads hence why I stopped using them.

nice tuto. what isyour red L-bracket ? just purchased a z14-30mm F/4 and I am interested with V7 system. i am also interested with natural night filter. Are you familiar with it ? I hesitate between a 82mm circular one very easy to install, compact and with less flare with city lights with a lens hood and a 100x100mm one. Does a 82mm circular one create more vignetting ? does it happen we cascade a natural night with another filter (GND for sunset over a cityscape ?)

I have the same setup for my 14-24 2.8. The V6 front version is not in the bag anymore, hoever I have kept the V6 attachment holder to be able to use the two slots filterholder on my 24-70 2.8 and the 70-200 2.8.
The Nisi approach is great when on has a collection of 100mm filters as it allows for positioning the ND transition line with graduated filters. The Kase approach does not work with graduated ND filters.

Have you tested the Nikonˋs own filter hood? There is some discussion on the dpreview that the filter hood of the 14-24s will also mount to 24-70s2.8 and 70-200s lenses.
What’s the difference/benefit of using a square rather than a circular filter?

Iv done some landscape tests between the f2.8 and the f4 the main difference seems to be in corner sharpness but Iv not done my full tests on them yet it’s on the list to do ....
The Zelda fits the Z7ii and works great for me but it dosnt allow full use of every accessory and port as I don’t use remotes ect it’s not a problem for me

I think that was a huge drawback for a lot of people when it came down to owning an F mount 14-24 F2.8 lens, is that you had to have that 150x150mm filters which are just soooo expensive.

Hi Ricci I have been searching through your vids for the follow up vid about filters and landscape photography but don’t seem to be able to find it (maybe you can give me a link or something) I have not done much landscape but your vids have inspired me, I am waiting for my Z9 to arrive and intend to buy a 14-30 for it to get into landscape. I have been looking at the Nisi web site and they have a range of kits available and I wondered if you have any suggestions on which would be the best kit for someone like me. Although I have a good range of F mount lenses I don’t have anything so wide hence the reason I am waiting for the Z9 to arrive. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Possibly a silly question @Ricci but do lee 100mm filters fit this holder? I've seen mention that the thickness varies.
Yeh Iv used Lee filters in NiSi holders before... just have to make sure they go in the right way

Hello Ricci. Happy new year. This year I will be buying Z6II with 14-30 f4. I will be getting V6 100mm filter system. Will it be a good pair??. I noticed that 14-30 has a lot of vignetteing. Many saw files I saw re pretty dark in cornor at f8. Will this system add more vignettes??.
Iv not had any issue with the thousands of shots taken on my 14-30 vignettes are easy to correct for in post and as long as you expose correctly for the filters you won’t add more vignettes to the images

Thanks for a very helpful and informative video. Although it looks like a good product, probably the best option for system filter users, I'm done with having to carry multiple adaptors and holders. If you don't use grad filters, I personally think Kase's new magnetic 112mm filters are the best option. Worth checking out if, like many photographers, you don't use grad filters anymore.
I still think grads are essential there’s been plenty of times where without a grad I would not of been able to shoot for as long or compensate for the exposure difference from a bright sky to a dark foreground
Really nice shots, love the river at 11:49. Maybe they could rubberize the end of the screw so there's less danger of scratching the lens/hood, aside from that looks like a good filter system.

If you had the correct ring attachment yes
You would need the 82mm main ring attachment from the V6/v5 and then any subsequent step down rings

I wish however there was a way to use the SW150 system with the new 14-24 f2.8 Z lens. I have a huge investment in this SW150 gear and really do not want a hugely obsolete system laying around, and needing to spend gobs of money on a new system. . It would be nice to have some type of adapter.

I can't speak for the NiSi 14-24 ring, but I do know that the hb-97 112mm filter hood for the 14-24 will fit on the 24-70, 50 1.2, 70-200, and possibly the 14-30, so it might be possible.
If you could use a 100mm square filter in front, why must the polarizer be 112mm instead of 100mm?If you want to use a square filter on top of the 112mm polarizer, do you need a 150mm filter, no reviewers seem to have answered this question.
Polarizer at 14mm is silly. However, I also think a ultra wide angle 2.8 is silly. You stop these things down for landscape, real estate, etc. The 14-30 is stellar. Maybe in the old days when the faster lenses where much sharper all around. Astro? Well use a fast prime. Faster and much cheaper.

No you would have to have the hood attached to use that 112mm filter

I should certainly be screwed but not screwed too tightly otherwise it will scratch the hood

Where is the water with the circular hole in it? I know it is by a dam but what is the purpose of the drain hole?
The dam doesn’t have water flowing over it it uses these drain holes to allow water to flow under the dam. If the water level gets to low the water will not fall in to the hole allowing the water level to rise again
The polarizing effect of a polarizing filter is depending on the viewing direction in general and especially relatively to the sunlight. Therefore it is more or less senseless to use it with an ultra wide angle lens. The angular field for the 14-24 mm is 114° to 84°. This is almost a right angle and wider. Imagine using a polarizing filter in one direction and then turning your view 90° to one side or the other. The polarizing effect changes and can be dramatically different. With a lens like this you would have this angle depending effect within one picture frame.
When pointing a wide angle lens at the blue cloudless sky the "Banding" effect it is very apparent and should be avoided. However, for looking through water or other types of reflections it is one thing that can't be replicated in post processing. This also is apparent when objects like leaves, flowers, cars, streets.... are coated in water the polarizer cuts out the reflection showing the color of the underlying objects. And, on lenses with less wide angles of view polarizers can help to cut through haze and fog which is vapor reflecting light.
@Jim Owens Thanks Jim! I didn't want to downplay the use of a polarizer in general. I like to use it myself. But the efficacy of a polarizer is depending on the angle of the polarization plane of the incoming light. That's physics and applies also on the effect of looking through the reflective surface of water. I just wanted to make clear that on an ultra wide angle lens a polarizer is not very useful or only of very limited use.

You apply filters in post processing but you can’t end up with the same result as using a set of filters you will add noise when lifting a shadow and it’s easy to burn out bright highlights if you arnt careful

The Kase Armour system is far a better system and you can polarize filter on it.
Quite disappointing, this impossibility to use and rotate a CP. And strange, because the Nisi special adapter for the 19mm tilt shift Z-mount allows me to use and rotate a CP... Of course, it works with the S5 holder and takes/requires the big 150mm filters.
No polarizer.......big mistake Nisi. Will look into kase magnetic instead.
The polariser feature on the V6 holder is so flimsy that I do not use it anymore on my Z14-30 f/4. Therefore I bought Kase Magnetic, man that works like a dream.

Sorry mate. Nisi is a China company! Lee Filters Our resin Neutral Density Graduated Filters are all made by hand in our UK- Stay Loyal
Iv used lee for years and know them very well. Iv even trained with Lee.
Lee are making a filter holder for the 14-24 so when I get to try that I’ll also let everyone know what I think !
But sadly the resin graduated filters are not as sharp as the glass grads hence why I stopped using them.
