Luckily I’ve got both. GT4RS has been delivered with PTS Riviera Blue. Spyder RS will be delivered in December. PTS Aubergine. I’ll keep both for long long time.
I usually go for the hardtops because I think the styling is better and it's perhaps more solid in feel. But the 718RS Spyder looks amazing as a droptop and the "roof" really evoques the speedster for me. And holy heck!...the sound! Awesome video, humorous and informative, in equal measure.
It looks like the "top redesign" was actually heavily drafted from the 987 boxster spyder top. It's back to being quite cumbersome in favor of reduced weight. Even the side windows made a reappearance.
Excellent review, very nicely captured sound, and thanks for showing off that abomination of a roof. The top will make the value go up, because it will be endearing.
On the 718 spyder, opening and closing the roof is a considerable pain, but on the 718 RS it is inconceivable to have a soft top like this. The weight should be reduced by using quality materials by not removing the necessary mechanical parts, also considering what they charge more than the 420 HP version, among other things
This is a fantastic car. Boxters have always been a better canyon carver than 911s and the two-seater, mid-engine, convertible set up makes it truly a unique sport car these days. If I can say one thing I prefer on a Spyder over the Spyder RS is that you can get a 6-speed manual on the Spyder. Other than that, the 500hp mid-mounted boxer engine on a two-seater open top cannot be topped on a weekend through the backroads on the mountain.
If you don’t like the top ,the short geared snappy PDK gearbox and the noise this car is not for you. I love it ❤ this has to be the best car under £500k I would leave the roof at home when possible.
ALL Porsche amazing cars , but sadly to really enjoy it day to day , make it quick as Mr. Plod would ban me in a few day , even at my age . A VERY GOOD REVIEW .
Awesome review! Everything about these videos is epic. The cinematography, the music, the humour, the knowledge of the presenter - up there with the very very best. Well done team! I hope you’re enjoying making the videos :) top work to be proud of
Hey there, glad you enjoyed the video. Am afraid we only drove the car you see in the video, so optional magnesium wheels and - as you pointed out - standard brakes (six pot front, four pot rear)
Had the exact same initial thought. Spyder to me is the epitome of weekend road carving and visceral sensations. Manual gearbox is a integral part of that equation.
Think this is better car than the cayman RS. The Caymane GT4 RS is just too similiar to the GT3/ GT3 RS for my liking for it to have its own personality. This an open top RS, something we as Porsche fans have waited years for.
Why would porche make the top like this instead of just removing the motor and making it a manual low slung top. Does it really save that much weight and make the car that much more aerodynamic to deal with this in the rain. They need to make a 911 touring version of this, gt3 rs 911 motor from that car, 6 speed manual from that car, power convertible top from base boxster with touring seats. I think that would make the perfect send off instead of this
Sadly the 718 Spyder RS isn’t offered with a manual, especially since it was designed for the road. Ironically, PDK’s and DCT’s will become obsolete with the trend towards EV’s…the experience is practically identical.
I’ve been at two Porsche track days, with 911, caymans and Boxsters, which you rotate through the day. It’s interesting that the 911 owners, who have never been in a Boxster/Cayman, come out of session with big smiles on their faces……and a change of opinion.
Spyder all day long - shame they have lost a little leg room from the old Gts 2.5 model because a bigger engine to fit in. But what a car and what a soundtrack love love love
At 9:35, ... as you watch a Mazda MX-5 RF pull up and your jaw drops as you watch how the hard top folds up like a Transformer... then it's gone. Zoom. Zoom.
That Chamois leather looks really nice on the roof, not much point in selling this in Europe… 😂😂😂❤ I wouldn’t mind fitting the lift system to the 718 GTS that would be really useful ..
I had a Boxster a few years ago. I remember one really hot sunny day, I was driving along a lovely country road and a bird did a sh!t on the passenger seat. That was the last time I took her out on a date!
There NEVER was a question whether a Boxster was a proper Porsche - unless of course low weight, nimble, mid engined, open topped sports cars don't apply.
Why are the Gordon Murray video comments turned Off. is the freedom of speech banned by Car Magazine? I only had good things to say, but I value freedom of speech even more. If this continues I will drop this magazine and it’s publisher permanently or Shell if corporate sponsors are dictating their terms as I can decide where and how to spend my money.. ❤
The Cayman GT4RS understandably has the PDK as some may want to track the car. But to not offer the RS Spyder without a manual is a big miss by Porsche, especially since it’s meant to be a ROAD car. I think I’ll happily keep my 981 Spyder…
LOL you showed us how impractical a manual convertible roof car is heh.. Better to butt a911 Cabrio... You might forget how when you didn't plan to lol
I'm sorry but Porsche should be thoroughly ashamed of that disaster of a rain cover. It's an absolute shambles of a design and is not worthy of the name
718 Cayman GT4 RS or 718 Spyder RS - which do you choose? Answers below...
None of the above. Boxster GTS 4.0 or Boxster T
@@iamspyvspy3077 wtf
Spyder. Maybe the most visceral roadster ever made.
Spyder without doubt. I got a 718 Spyder and that car with the GT3 engine will be phenomenal
RS Spyder .. road trip in Europe .. no brainer
This is one of the best Spyder RS reviews on UA-cam. I’ll be making mine soon.
Thanks!
@@CARmagazineTV keep it up. I know it has its days.

You are very lucky! Enjoy! And take everybody that wants a ride out in them!
Nice combo! My daily is a Shark Blue Cayman GTS 4.0.
grrrrr
Nice pair of motors to own, well done
Enjoy, I envy you!!!!!!!!🤣✌
500hp in a boxster is madness.. And what a sound..
Sound is 👌

Glad you enjoyed the video.
I previously owned a GT4, but to be honest I think I'd choose this Spyder RS over the GT4RS to sit next to my 991.2 GT3 in the garage

In depth review matched with proper videography 👏 The sound of that 4.0 with top down is spindle tingling sensational ❤ 🇿🇦👊
Good review James. Softer suspension going to be better for UK roads.
Excellent review, very nicely captured sound, and thanks for showing off that abomination of a roof. The top will make the value go up, because it will be endearing.

😊it’s a limited edition car, my 981 Spyder will never depreciate for the same reason. Only 2450 made.

I agree
This is such a great car, it's amazing to see Porsche not watering down the Cayman/Boxster for once :')
This is a fantastic car. Boxters have always been a better canyon carver than 911s and the two-seater, mid-engine, convertible set up makes it truly a unique sport car these days. shame no manual, 987.2 Spyder wins and is 135kg lighter !
You cant buy a Porsche with this combination of roofless, 9k rpm and PDK... and it'll never be made again
That roof would be an absolute nightmare to put back on in a rainstorm not to mention those red tabs can be pulled on a parked car.
A fantastic review James 👏
Thank you!
If you don’t like the top ,the short geared snappy PDK gearbox and the noise this car is not for you. I love it ❤ this has to be the best car under £500k I would leave the roof at home when possible.
Love that ending! 😂 I had missed that before. I am in review rewatch mode, waiting for allocations to drop…
So glad that this car exists even though I will likely never have one.
Well played CAR magazine 👍
It's like Porsche is doing a proper send-off for all its combustion cars
They will continue to produce combustion cars forever
There is a reason why they invested so much in synthetic fuel
wonder what the markups will be, if you can even get one
What’s the mark up to get one ?
Here in the US the GT4 R/S is trading at 300K
Porsche don't mark up brand new cars in the uk
ok ok....I will take one. Just deliver it before the weekend thanks
You guys do amazing work.
Thank you!
ALL Porsche amazing cars , but sadly to really enjoy it day to day , make it quick as Mr. Plod would ban me in a few day , even at my age . A VERY GOOD REVIEW .
Glad you enjoyed the review!
What color is this one? Arctic silver or the new color?
Good review, but can’t hear 8-9k rasp intake sound in this compared to a 4rs
Was this color GT Silver or something else? Some of the shots made it look like something different?

Thanks Dylan! 👌
I will said it again: There is Porsche and there is other brands 😊
Porsche are clearly wizards from the land of Oz.We have to applaud them for taking on the suggestions and wants of their customers.
Funny intro, great review as always
Thank you!
I’ve only ever put the roof up on my Spyder when I’m washing it. If there’s rain in the forecast, I take my masseuse’s 911.
Great review James. Excellent work!!!
Thank you!
Hey James .. great vid :). Did you drive with and without the magnesium wheels and PCCBs (can see the one in the vid is steel's)
Hey there, glad you enjoyed the video. Am afraid we only drove the car you see in the video, so optional magnesium wheels and - as you pointed out - standard brakes (six pot front, four pot rear)
It’s a shame not to have PCCBs as standard on any RS model.
Well done driving this thing in the rain! By the way, has anyone ever told you you remind them of a young Tiff Needell?!
This gotta be the best sports car out there
This car is amazing, but I don't want to miss the automatic roof of my boxster gts.
Shame about the gearbox. With the GT4 RS being PDK only I was hoping the Boxster would be manual only.
Had the exact same initial thought. Spyder to me is the epitome of weekend road carving and visceral sensations. Manual gearbox is a integral part of that equation.
Could not agree more! To not offer the Spyder with a manual option is a HUGE miss by Porsche.
Think this is better car than the cayman RS. The Caymane GT4 RS is just too similiar to the GT3/ GT3 RS for my liking for it to have its own personality. This an open top RS, something we as Porsche fans have waited years for.
Is it me or are the current 718s remarkably like 997s in looks in the front and from the side. Be interesting to compare dimensions.
It’s a much smaller car than the 911.
Absolutely incredible presentation.
Fantastic watch 🚗💨😎
Thanks!

992 Speedster is coming ...
@johnwhood5791 true but i want a mid engined boxster, manual, gt3 rs motor, no stupid top

Very detailed video, thank you. And great intro, lool. ;).
Glad you liked it!
Anyone who ever made the hairdressers reference to the Cayman/Boxster either never drove one or has more money then self esteem.

I wonder if you can get the magnesium wheels with conventional wheel studs, not keen on centerlocks for a road car
What I don’t get is why it has steel brakes and not PCCBs. Crimany, my 981 Spyder hasPCCBs.
Spyder all day long - shame they have lost a little leg room from the old Gts 2.5 model

I believe the bulkhead is in the same place they had to gain height for the intake arrangement hence the different roof.
At 9:35, ... as you watch a Mazda MX-5 RF pull up and your jaw drops as you watch how the hard top folds up like a Transformer... then it's gone. Zoom. Zoom.

Yes, first time the Boxster has had a lift system!
By the time he is done, the rain already stops.
Why did you film the clip in the rain? Put the roof up.
Would have altered the sound and made it very dark in the cabin!
Porsche gifting itself with the best cars, 500bhp German horses
The hairdressers car thing makes no sense. A convertible will make any hairdo a mess in a few minutes of driving.
I’ve been on every list in town for 2 years lol Still won’t be able to get one, likely.
James, moisturise moisturise. moisturise!!!🤣
In hot weather i would go for gt4rs
Cannot wait for our SRS to arrive 🤟🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🤟🏻
just pray hard that the sky doesn't open suddenly when you driving without the roof
Sick car but also sick if this is the last one :( - a future car like this with no engine noise is just a sad thought.
I had a Boxster a few years ago. I remember one really hot sunny day, I was driving along a lovely country road and a bird did a sh!t on the passenger seat.

😂what was her name? .....
There NEVER was a question whether a Boxster was a proper Porsche - unless of course low weight, nimble, mid engined, open topped sports cars don't apply.
Oh dear- was someone not paying attention to the part of the presentation, whereby they showed you how to put the roof on?!🤣
Looks amazing. I just wish they would make the spyder models have an automatic roof, and have it look more flush when the roof is up.
this car is not for you... sorry, you don't understand it.

How were hairdressers able to afford one in the first place loool
No exhaust sound
Watch from 12:31 onwards!
One big problem, it’s not a manual!
Awesome
Yas Ii love Germany.
I would need to wear a helmet driving the RS...or a lot of pomade!
Every proper sports car should be manual for proper drivers!
I would just drive it with the roof on the whole time
why are you doing the review in the rain?
Because it was raining.
It’s crazy 911porshe
LOL you showed us how impractical a manual convertible roof car is heh.. Better to butt a911 Cabrio... You might forget how when you didn't plan to lol
Is that the way to put up the car top in 21st Century????
for those who like pitching tent on their car
I would never buy this car because of the stupid roof
Putting that top cover acting like clown with that music of circus in the background makes me think you're not a serious reviewer!
It's called having a sense of humour. 🙄
nice Jeremy Clarkson Audi TT 3.2 review copy-----but you're no Jeremy Clarkson!
Who?
