Judas Priest is my favourite band of all time,I could never rank their albums. IMO they have all hidden gems. Then again the one I listen to the most is Sad wings of destiny.❤
The favourite album of a friend of mine is "SAD WINGS OF DESTINY", the favourite Priest album of my father is "SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE" and my favorite Priest album is "STAINED CLASS". I mean that alone says a lot about the quality of this great british Heavy Metal band ! By the way, all albums with LES BINKS on drums are my fav Priest records. A small recommendation: if you want to hear a real Priest live album (and not Unleashed in the studio...) then try LIVE AT THE MUDD CLUB 1979. I wish they would release that concert on a vinyl record in the near future....
OMG, thank you for this monumental video. An absolute joy. Yes, my list is different, but the passion and love...wonderful stuff! BTW, Les Binks' drumming on Stained Class is out of this world. Thank you, Phil!

Great ranking. I agreed with a lot of your comments, especially about individual songs. I would have had Stained Class a bit higher. I enjoyed the diversity of the '70s albums. As you say, light and shade. There were two other live albums not included here. One was Live Meltdown '98 which I haven't heard and the other was Live in London (both with Ripper Owens). The latter one is pretty good. I'm probably alone in quite liking Rocka Rolla. It's so different to the other albums that came after it that I feel it has it's own charm. My top ten based on what I play the most would be, 1. Invincible Shield. 2. Screaming For Vengeance. 3. Angel of Retribution. 4. British Steel. 5.Sad Wings of Destiny. 6.Defenders of the Faith. 7.Stained Class. 8.Sin After Sin. 9. Turbo. 10. Rocka Rolla. Every album has something worth discovering.

Hey Phil, great video I really enjoy the way you go about your reviews. I have never heard much Priest tbh, but when Invincible Shield was released I was obsessed and listen to it every day! As it's my #1 hoped to see Defenders Of The Faith higher Phil but you made up for it with Nostradamus being in your Top10 (I'm not one to mix live albums with studio albums in album rankings so will take that as your #8 LOL). Really have to respect your ranking here, because you know so much about these albums. Your opinion comes from an informed place, it’s not like you got into metal yesterday. I may rank them differently, but that’s just me.
Judas Priest was a band that sort of passed me by, heard all their singles from the early 80's but never actually owned any albums, the last few years, especially after watching many ranking shows has persuaded me to Investigate and wow have I missed out, so far I have got the following albums: Sin after Sin, Stained Class, Defenders of The Faith, Ram it Down, Painkiller, Redeemer of Souls, Point of Entry, Unleashed in The East, British Steel, Angel of Retribution, Priest Live, Metal Works & Single Cuts. Plenty more to go...
Great video! Great band! And yes the order may be different for other fans but as a fan that doesn't matter! An enjoyable journey through the catalogue! 👍
I'm not the biggest Priest fan but I always love to watch album rankings anyway. Now we need a Y&T ranking at some point! I see you did one of my favorite band Thin Lizzy and some great ones like Heep so I will watch them after this!
01 Screaming For Vengeance 02 Sad Wings Of Destiny 03 Killing Machine 04 Defenders Of The Faith 05 Point Of Entry 06 Firepower 07 Sin After Sin 08 Invincible Shield 09 Stained Class 10 Painkiller 11 British Steel 12 Redeeemer Of Souls 13 Ram It Down 14 Rocka Rolla 15 Angel Of Retribution 16 Demolition 17 Turbo 18 Jugulator 19 Nostradamus
A nice list, it's rare to see Point of Entry this high but it is for me too... 1. Sad Wings of Destiny 2. Point of Entry 3. Screaming for Vengeance 4. British Steel 5. Killing Machine 6. Sin After Sin 7. Rocka Rolla 8. Stained Class 9. Angel of Retribution 10. Turbo 11. Invincible Shield 12. Defenders of the Faith 13. Ram it Down 14. Redeemer of Souls 15. Firepower 16. Painkiller 17. Nostradamus 18. Demolition 19. Jugulator
I loved this video and this list! Why? Because mine is so much more different than yours - I absolutely love Ram it Down, Defenders, and Screaming! Thanks for always putting together such thoughtful discussions
Great review Phil sad wings will always be my favourite Priest album like you I saw the cover and thought this as got to be good and it didn’t disappoint but having said that can’t find fault with none of their albums all classics.
Thanks for sharing your ranking. Quick top 8: 1. Screaming For Vengeance 2. Firepower 🔥 3. Stained Class 4. Painkiller 5. Invincible Shield 🛡 6. Defenders Of The Faith 7. Angel Of Retribution 8. British Steel
Sad Wings British Steel Screaming Defenders Painkiller All original mastering CDs - those 2001 remasters sound dreadful. Great video as always Phil. Invincible Shield is a bit special alright! 🤘
This was a very thought-provoking presentation. Plenty of reason to revisit and re-asses my opinion. My introduction to JP was Unleashed in the East so that spoiled me for almost everything else. It's still my favourite and I don't care Halford had to re-do all his vocals because of a stinking cold. Never understood why they added the 4 bonus tracks to the remaster but omitted Beyond the Realms of Death which would have fitted easily between Green Manalishi and Diamonds... Still keeping my fingers crossed for that UFO/Thin Lizzy-style boxset with all the recordings from that Japanese tour. I liked British Steel a lot but the sound, on my vinyl copy at least, was very thin and dry. Didn't buy POE but got Screaming for Vengeance. That was great. Fever is indeed a wonderful song. Great that you singled out that track for a mention. I really loved Defenders, also the very varied side two. I have the one with the Long Beach show but it cost me a lot more than a fiver. Turbo was a real downer for me. The title song okay and Out in the Cold of course but there's too much rubbish, for me anyway. Then came Johnny B. Goode and Ram it Down. I hated those. Priest were finished for me. It was years later that I found out they had sort of re-established their credentials with Painkiller.
I have Nostradamus a lot lower than you in my rankings, but I really enjoy the album, it's a great record. Here's my ranking of the songs, not including the interludes: 1. Persecution 2. Alone 3. Visions 4. Nostradamus 5. Future of Mankind 6. Prophecy 7. Death 8. War 9. Conquest 10. Revelations 11. Pestilence and Plague 12. New Beginnings 13. Exiled 14. Lost Love
Not a massive fan, but I enjoyed your ranking. I saw them in 1978 in Bournemouth. They were tremendous. It was the killing machine tour. That LP, stained class and sin after sin are enough for me. Cheers Phil, Chris
Unleashed in the East (The best, but Live hits) 1. British Steel 2. Sad wings of destiny (bad sound) 3. Killing Machine 4. Sin after sin 5. Defenders of the faith 6. Stained Class 7. Angel of retribution 8. Painkiller 9. Rocka Rolla 10. Firepower 11. Screaming for Vengeance 12. Point of Entry 13. Redeemer of Souls 14. Invincible Shield 15. Demolition 16. Nostradamus 17. Jugulator 18. Turbo 19. Ram It Down
@@NowSpinningMagazine your welcome Phil - having just done my 1st video I know how hard it is to make these videos look easy ! You nail it ! (Have a watch - it’s got some Birmingham reminiscing for you!}
Uncle Phil, Painkiller at 16. WOW! Defenders, Killing Machine and Stained Class outside the top ten? Wow , wow. Wow. They're all in the top 5 for me. I'm stunned Nostrodamus in as high as it is. We all hear things differently. Thank you for your insight.
I kind of agree with Phil's ranking or much of it anyway, neither Painkiller nor Defenders these days are near my Top 10 and the former never was. I also prefer Demolition to Jugulator, both at the very bottom...
I agree with you. I’m shocked at this ranking. Killing Machine is my number one. Nostradamus is nowhere near as good as Painkiller. I sold it years ago it’s so bad but each to their own
@@LarryFleetwood8675Easily two of their best albums. In fact two of the greatest metal albums in history. I genuinely would like to know what are all the so called albums you’d rank ahead of them if you say neither are anywhere near your top ten
1. Unleashed In The East (1979) 2. Painkiller (1990) 3. Stained Class (1978) 4. Defenders of The Faith (1984) 5. Sad Wings of Destiny (1976) 6. Firepower (2018) 7. Screaming for Vengeance (1982) 8. Demolition (2001)
Never twigged to the Rob Halford / Tim Brooke-Taylor resemblance in the late 70s before now! 😂 Not always a fan favourite, but I enjoy Redeemer of Souls a lot.
Martin Popoff always says a band's material should get better as time passes on. Priest are still amazing today...Rob changed my life when I heard Hell Bent in 79... I was 8 and I swore I'd never take anyone's BS ever again. I'd love to be able to personally thank Rob for inspiring me to have courage.
У нас всегда на первом месте стоит defenders of the faith!!!затем лично для меня идет Nostradamus и British steel.мне сейчас 55 лет и в роке с середины 80х.желаю вам удачи и фортуны,long live rock and roll!!!
1) Stained Class 2) Defenders 3) Screaming 4) Sad Wings 5) Hell Bent 6) British Steele 7) Painkiller 8) Sin 9) Retribution (Lochness is my fav Priest song since Painkiller) 10) new one 11) Turbo 12) Rocka 13) Point 14) Nostradamus 15) the rest
I agree with you on Invincible Shield, it is a fantastic album. Not my #1, but it could go higher for me as time goes on. Also, Screaming for Vengeance at #2 is about right. The rest of your ranking has me rather perplexed, though. My ranking: 1. Screaming for Vengeance 2. Painkiller 3. Defenders of the Faith 4. British Steel 5. Invincible Shield 6. Stained Class 7. Hell Bent for Leather 8. Sad Wings of Destiny 9. Firepower 10. Angel of Retribution 11. Redeemer of Souls 12. Sin After Sin 13. Jugulator 14. Demolition 15. Ram It Down 16. Point of Entry 17. This was a fun list to read with all of the side projects included. Remarkably I agree with four of your top five! My top four Judas Priest albums are exactly the same with Nostradamus and Screaming for Vengeance flipped around. I've never seen anyone else yet that has this top five list.
1.stained class 2.sad wings 3.sin after sin for me,bar unleashed if not including live, killing machine is pretty good, but agreed on british steel, dumbed down priest for me,some good tunes but also some fodder.though some claim its a classic, but not for me
Hello Phil!! Maybe your right!! ? But Sad wings has lasted almoust fifty years!! Mine ranking ( If anybody cares!!🥰) Sad wings of destiny,Stained Class,Sin after Sin,Killing Machine, British Steel, Unleashed in the East,Painkiller, Defenders of the Faith, Screaming for Vengeance,Point of Entry, Turbo,Ram it Down…🤟🖤♠️😋………
Pete Pardo won't like Stained Class being no.12. Personally Sad Wings Of Destiny has been at the summit for decades. Of course if you love the band's latest then it is only natural you will play that album more than the others. It will be interesting to review your list in a few years to see what changes there will be and will Invincible Shield still be at the top?
For me my top 5 would be: 5. Painkiller 4. Defenders 3. Stained class 2. Sad wings 1. Sin after sin I think dissident aggressor is one of the heaviest songs ever created, so heavy in fact that even slayer couldnt do it justice!
You cannot be serious with Stained Class ranked so low!!!!! Also.....it does not need remixing. Compared with modern brick wall production and mastering it is perfect. I do like you have Turbo higher than most....it's a consummate pop / Metal album. I too have never rated Defenders either. The production is awful. You haven't followed the sheep....we are all different. Fair play.
Hi Phil. Great ranking. I don't really like Judas Priest all that much, but I relate totally with what you said about Sad Wings... and Sin After Sin. Those are the only two albums I have by them, and I got them when they came out. It's a nostalgia thing and memories and emotions.
Is it not missing the first two? As I understand it, there’s the set which makes up the Priest logo on the spines but its missing the first two albums. Then there’s a separate big set which does have the first two albums, it has all the Halford stuff up to 2011 and live albums but its missing the two Ripper Owens albums in the 90s. I’ve seen those two JP box sets but they are each missing stuff. I’ve not seen a box set that has everything. If you do think you have one, what year is it/the label? And it has the first two albums (Rock a Rolla, Sad Wings), the Ripper Owens albums and live albums?
Not my cup of tea: (KKs Priest is better, but I still prefer the Halford fronted band). 23. Demolition 22. Jugulator Okay: 21. Rocka Rolla 20. Nostradamus Good: 19. A Touch of Evil Live 18. Priest Live 17. Angel of Retribution 16. Battle Cry 15. Point of Entry Fun bad: (Got this from another tierlist video, I actually love 4-5 songs on here, the rest not so much) 14. Ram it down Great: 13. Redeemer of Souls 12. Firepower Fantastic: 11. British Steel 10. Turbo 9. Killing Machine 8. Sin after Sin 7. Invincible Shield Perfection: 6. Painkiller 5. Defenders of the Faith 4. Screaming for Vengeance 3. Unleashed in the East 2. Stained Class 1. Sad Wings of Destiny Although not perfect all the way through, both Sad Wings and actually Turbo are my go to Priest albums nowadays. I'd even consider Sad Wings my favourite album period.
Demolition is a crappy album,I agree but Jugulator? I actually still listen to it from time to time,it is a pretty good thrash metal album. Heavy, heavy shit!
1. sad wings of destiny (1976) 2. invincible shield (2024) 3. sin after sin (1977) 4. painkiller (1990) 5. screaming for vengeance (1982) 6. stained class (1978) 7. defenders of the faith (1984) 8. killing machine (hell bent for leather) (1978) 9. firepower (2018) 10. british steel (1980) UNLEASHED IN THE EAST...all time classic!!! (1979)
I have been playing Invincible Shield every day since its release. Their best album of all time. One of the greatest albums by anyone, of all time. Unleashed in the East is their best live album. The Battle Cry bluray in 5.1 is excellent, because your watching it, in surround sound. The Epitaph bluray is even better in 5.1 Unfortunately the British Steel performance of the entire album was never released in Bluray 1080p. The DVD looked terrible. I saw it in HD once, from HD net channel. By the way, there's a reissue of Sad Wings of Destiny on CD the digi-pack is embossed. Very cool.i believe the masterpiece song from Firepower, the bridge to Invincible Shield was "guardians"/Rising from ruins.
1)Sad Wings 2) Stained Class 3) Screaming 4)Rock a rolla 5) Hell Bent.......kinda lost interest after those, but I think my one and two are at the all time top of my heavy metal listings. & Victim of Changes was the first song I ever heard by them, it shocked me at how good it was back then.
I forgot all about Sin After Sin, I have to put it at #3, I liked Hell Bent For Leather ok and it does have one or two of their best songs imo, but my tastes in music kinda drifted from the really heavy stuff, except for Nazareth, Nazareth is my all time favorite band ever!
In part I don't agree with your ranking. My top ten: 1. Screaming for Vengeance 2. Painkiller 3. Sin after Sin 4. Unleashed in the East 5. Killing Machine 6. Defenders of the Faith 7. Firepower 8. Sad Wings of Destiny 9. Priest Live 10. Stained Class

By the way, all albums with LES BINKS on drums are my fav Priest records.
A small recommendation: if you want to hear a real Priest live album (and not Unleashed in the studio...) then try LIVE AT THE MUDD CLUB 1979.

I think Invincible Shield is indeed one of their best albums.
Cool that you love the new album...I like it as well...not in my top 5, but nice to see a really solid album so far into their career.
immensely enjoyed your video. I really really like Nostradamus as well.

3. Stained Class
4. Painkiller
5. Invincible shield 🛡
👍🤘
I loved this video and this list! Why? Because mine is so much more different than yours - I absolutely love Ram it Down, Defenders, and Screaming! Thanks for always putting together such thoughtful discussions
Thank you very much. I was expecting a lot of flak for my choices but the video has gone down well. Phil
1. Stained Class
2. Sin After Sin
3. Killing Machine
4. Screaming For Vengeance
5. Sad Wings Of Destiny
I thought I was the only one liking Stained Class that much^
Great choices - Phil
My favorite album is screaming for vengeance love the sound of it and the songs. Second would be British steel.
Great review Phil sad wings will always be my favourite Priest album like you I saw the cover and thought this as got to be good and it didn’t disappoint but having said that can’t find fault with none of their albums all classics.
I will go with you more or less the new one is immense expecially in pink vinyl :) thanks Phil 😊
Hi Phil loving the Judas priest CDs
Thanks for sharing your ranking. Quick top 8:
1. Screaming For Vengeance
2. Firepower 🔥
3. Stained Class
4. Painkiller
5. Invincible Shield 🛡
6. Defenders Of The Faith
7. Angel Of Retribution
8. British Steel
No Killing Machine?
Great choices !
Sad Wings
British Steel
Screaming
Defenders
Painkiller
All original mastering CDs - those 2001 remasters sound dreadful.
Great video as always Phil. Invincible Shield is a bit special alright! 🤘
Thanks Phil for great video, last album number 1 for me too🤘
This was a very thought-provoking presentation.
I agree, missing out Beyond The Realms od Death is a bit bonkers! Phil
I laughed out loud when you were talking about the track Heavy Metal! I love Ram it Down though.
👍😍👍Congrats from Brazil!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
If you're talking about the really big Box Set with all the additional Live Stuff, both "Touch of Evil" and "Battle Cry" are included.
With Japanese bonus tracks?
What year did that come out and what label is it on?
I have Nostradamus a lot lower than you in my rankings, but I really enjoy the album, it's a great record. Here's my ranking of the songs, not including the interludes:
1. Persecution
2. Alone
3. Visions
4. Nostradamus
5. Future of Mankind
6. Prophecy
7. Death
8. War
9. Conquest
10. Revelations
11. Pestilence and Plague
12. New Beginnings
13. Exiled
14. Lost Love
Not a massive fan, but I enjoyed your ranking. I saw them in 1978 in Bournemouth. They were tremendous. It was the killing machine tour. That LP, stained class and sin after sin are enough for me. Cheers Phil, Chris
Unleashed in the East (The best, but Live hits)
1. British Steel
2. Sad wings of destiny (bad sound)
3. Killing Machine
4. Sin after sin
5. Defenders of the faith

7. Angel of retribution
8. Painkiller
9. Rocka Rolla
10. Firepower
11. Screaming for Vengeance
12. Point of Entry
13. Redeemer of Souls
14. Invincible Shield
15. Demolition
16. Nostradamus
17. Jugulator
18. Turbo
19. Ram It Down
Nice one Phil - a nice epic to fit the mighty Priest🎉🎉
Thank you 🤩
@@NowSpinningMagazine your welcome Phil - having just done my 1st video I know how hard it is to make these videos look easy ! You nail it ! (Have a watch - it’s got some Birmingham reminiscing for you!}
Great to see Turbo so high in the list. Gets a lot of flack but I love it.
Phil! Great video as always. And who's Arse-nal's daddy? UTFV!
Thank you for watching - I knew my choices might be a surprise!

Fabulous list, thank you for sharing - Phil
Never twigged to the Rob Halford / Tim Brooke-Taylor resemblance in the late 70s before now! 😂
Not always a fan favourite, but I enjoy Redeemer of Souls a lot.
I'm very interested whether *let us prey* might be phils fav priest song also because of simon phillips perfect drumming?!
Yep - my fave JP track - Phil

Great list - thank you for sharing - Phil
I agree with you on Invincible Shield, it is a fantastic album. Not my #1, but it could go higher for me as time goes on. Also, Screaming for Vengeance at #2 is about right. The rest of your ranking has me rather perplexed, though. My ranking:
1. Screaming for Vengeance
2. Painkiller
3. Defenders of the Faith
4. British Steel
5. Invincible Shield
6. Stained Class

Excellent ranking of Judas Priest !
Hi Phil do you know where I can pick up the sweet box set
Screaming for Vengeance is my No.1
Missed live Meltdown 98, Phil. Their strongest live album.

This was a fun list to read with all of the side projects included. Remarkably I agree with four of your top five! My top four Judas Priest albums are exactly the same with Nostradamus and Screaming for Vengeance flipped around. I've never seen anyone else yet that has this top five list.
1.stained class 2.sad wings 3.sin after sin for me,bar unleashed if not including live, killing machine is pretty good, but agreed on british steel, dumbed down priest for me,some good tunes but also some fodder.though some claim its a classic, but not for me
My favorite JP album is British Steel
Hello Phil!! Maybe your right!! ? But Sad wings has lasted almoust fifty years!! Mine ranking ( If anybody cares!!🥰) Sad wings of destiny,Stained Class,Sin after Sin,Killing Machine, British Steel, Unleashed in the East,Painkiller, Defenders of the Faith, Screaming for Vengeance,Point of Entry, Turbo,Ram it Down…🤟🖤♠️😋………
Ha ha Halford did look like Tim Brooke-Taylor in 1980!
We shall have to see! Phil :)
1. Invincible Shield
2. Screaming For Vengeance
3. Defenders Of The Faith
4. British Steel
5. Painkiller
Great choices! Phil :)
1 - Nostradamus
2 - Others
For me my top 5 would be:
5. Painkiller
4. Defenders
3. Stained class
2. Sad wings
1. Sin after sin
I think dissident aggressor is one of the heaviest songs ever created, so heavy in fact that even slayer couldnt do it justice!
Fair play.
Thank you - Phil
Sin after sin Simon Phillips on drums
Hi Phil. Great ranking. I don't really like Judas Priest all that much, but I relate totally with what you said about Sad Wings... and Sin After Sin. Those are the only two albums I have by them, and I got them when they came out. It's a nostalgia thing and memories and emotions.
Hey there. I wonder how you will come up to 23 ... :D
My ranking would be very different than yours Phil, but I don't include live albums. There are no albums missing from the massive box, I have it.
23. Demolition
22. Jugulator
Okay:
21. Rocka Rolla
20. Nostradamus
Good:
19. A Touch of Evil Live
18. Priest Live
17. Angel of Retribution
16. Battle Cry
15. Point of Entry
Fun bad: (Got this from another tierlist video, I actually love 4-5 songs on here, the rest not so much)
14. Ram it down
Great:
13. Redeemer of Souls
12. Firepower
Fantastic:
11. British Steel
10. Turbo
9. Killing Machine
8. Sin after Sin
7. Invincible Shield
Perfection:
6. Painkiller
5. Defenders of the Faith
4. Screaming for Vengeance
3. Unleashed in the East
2. Stained Class
1. Sad Wings of Destiny
Although not perfect all the way through, both Sad Wings and actually Turbo are my go to Priest albums nowadays. I'd even consider Sad Wings my favourite album period.
Wonderful choices and list - thank you ☺️
Jugulator is not that great, but holy hell the closing track Cathedral Spires is top shelf.
Demolition is a crappy album,I agree but Jugulator? I actually still listen to it from time to time,it is a pretty good thrash metal album. Heavy, heavy shit!
1. sad wings of destiny (1976)
2. invincible shield (2024)
3. sin after sin (1977)
4. painkiller (1990)
5. screaming for vengeance (1982)
6. stained class (1978)
7. defenders of the faith (1984)
8. killing machine (hell bent for leather) (1978)
9. firepower (2018)
10. british steel (1980)
UNLEASHED IN THE EAST...all time classic!!! (1979)
Thank you - great ranking list as well - Phil
Tardis-Reference ... 😆
Agreed on Stained Class. Exciter starts out with pounding drums, then its toned down and has this soft jazzy drum playing and soft guitars.
I’m genuinely shocked at this ranking and I don’t get shocked that easy watching ranking videos like this
Sorry, I did wonder if it would shock some people. But it is only based on what I play at the moment - Phil
I always thought the song Epitaph was inspired by Queen.
In part I don't agree with your ranking.
My top ten:
1. Screaming for Vengeance
2. Painkiller
3. Sin after Sin
4. Unleashed in the East
5. Killing Machine
6. Defenders of the Faith
7. Firepower
8. Sad Wings of Destiny
9. Priest Live
10. Stained Class
Great choices !
Nastradomas is the aching Alright 😆 the worst of their catalog
HaHa, I can see why people think that, but I think it will be the doorway into the band for many others as the years roll by. Phil
The Nostradamus tittle track alone destroys everything about the generics firepower and invincible shield
Firepower and the one before it are disappointing. Generic, bland, “by the numbers”, soulless. No thanks.
Lightning Strike is a classic
