- The political theorist of the French revolution. An Enlightenment thinker who was against the Enlightenment. A liberal who was also a revolutionary. This short lecture is an introduction to Jean Jacque Rousseau.
This video looks at Rousseau's theory of social contract and the concept of the general-will.

Great Lecture Comrade
1:30 I would like to note that he later demonstrate that what make society later is not families but the state and most of all the state religion. That change happen with antique grece, look at antigone, it is the family against the city.
Excellent comment. In that section I was speaking exclusively about society in the state of nature. Hence, before the state was formed.
The problem is that he later demosntrate that that hypothetical state of nature is just here to help us speculate, because as soon there is man, there is civil status, before that in the natural state there is no man, there is only "un animal stupide et borné." Even in mongolian society before the rise of temujin into the great Ghengis Kahn. Where everyone outside family should be consider an ennemy, there are clans, hierarchies in between families, family are not yet part of it, like in ancient greece, where law of blood is inferior to the law of the city, but it is there !
But the thing remain that Rousseau is too formal when he talk about "Le Contrat Social", as if civil status has been fully reached, the thing is that we did not recah the full civil status yet, we are still within a transition.
P.S : I have amnifestation soon. So time to apply Livre III chapitre in real life.
Could we access to your PPT comrade?
38:30 I forget to add, that yhea they gain a lot bbbbbuuuuuuuuuuuuutttttttttt....
Interesting
I wish I were your student...... I wish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5:10 Because to rule society by sheer force is impossible the amount of force and brute force required is just...... Absurd.
