It went below 0 when you opened the piercing valve. Congratulations. You just contaminated your system. Always purge the hoses and the gauge before opening up your system. 1) Loosen the hose connection on the piercing valve. 2) Open the can of refrigerant and listen for the leak on the loose connection at the piercing valve. 3) Wait a few seconds for the refrigerant to displace and push out the air from the hose and gauge. 4) tighten the connection on the piercing valve. 5) close your refrigerant can. Now you can open the piercing valve.

I am almost ready to recharge the freon, but still not very clear about how much psi of R134A to refill. You filled the R134A up to 3 psi the first time, and found th ＇at it was not cool enough. My quesion is: How much was the second time when you refilled R134A? Then I‘d add 3psi to your second psi, to get my target range.

I love the way , he is explaining every detail on how to get this done something I am not very good at. This can have your refrigeration working in no time, this will get it running for quite a while again. Keep in mind that once you have a leak in a refrigerator, it is the beginning of the end to that unit. It is either old, try to look, for green corrossion in the lines, these tipically have a leak.. You will find a leak spot right under them... So you would know where to fix.
People, do this the correct way. Spend 75 to 200 bucks on everything you need. The steps are very simple with the right equipment. Even that is much cheaper than replacing a cheap $600 refrigerator. This will never do the job right, and you may wind up with no refrigerator, or one that never works properly, which will shorten its lifespan even further. Remember, older refrigerators were made to last longer. If you have one in good shape, do it right. If yours is on its last leg, fine.
I also decided to fix my refrigerator myself. But it is a lot more complicated than this. You have to find the leak before adding more gas. You have to get any moisture out of the system. It mixes with the gas and turns into a metal corrosive. Also the piercing valve is cheap and adds an additional leak. I ended up buying a vacuum pump, manifold gauge and soldering equipment before I was done. R134a gas is safe. But R600a (Daewoo Refri) is highly flammable. Be careful 😅
When did you bleed all the air out of your charging hose? This video is 8 months old so more than likely you have already replaced this system since you completely ruined it.

The best thing to do is to have a professional check it out. I’ve seen people fix the odor with vinegar and other cleaning supplies, but better safe than sorry. Call a pro.
Put a box of baking powder inside the fridge open up the top of it, and find a place for it inside. This will kill what ever odor there is. Normally this is done I been using this method for years. Replace the box once every 2 months. or 1 for best results.

Anyone worried about an emergency repair: Already have these things on hand, and a huge ice chest. When your food is on ice, do this as a temporary fix, then do it right... DIY... it's easy, and not very costly. If the refrigerator needs freon, it probably has a leak. If so, that has to be fixed first. NOTE: Proper tools are not expensive for this DYI. Older, more reliable refrigerators should be used as long as possible... unless you like wasting money (on a newer, lower quality refrigerator). It's also good to have a start capacitor on hand.

But make sure your fridge has just the two wire going to your relay. Some have more wires and without the proper electrical knowledge you can do more damage than good. Also, this fix is more proper for older units and anything that cost 800 or less. If you have one of these units and had it for over 6 years its worth the risk. You are due another anyway. Do not try this on a unit worth 2500 dollars, call a professional. When your compressor needs freon, the humming noise sounds different and your compressor will be very hot. This is how you can find out if it needs it. Never ad any freon without letting the compressor cool down by disconnecting the unit a few hours. This will kill your compressor.

If you have a small leak in your refrigerator what little air gets in it will leak out again anyway. ♦️ I have been adding freon to my wife's truck for the past 7 years and I have never evacuated the system, I have to add about 1 and 1/2 cans of freon every summer. ♦️ The only way you should evacuate or Purge your system is if you break open a line for some type of replacement or repair work. Yup sucked in all that air from the hoses and with such a small system that was a lot. This is why sometimes UA-cam videos are the worst source of info. This is NOT how you charge your system also after you put the cap on the the bullet fitting you need to unscrew the puncture screw again to avoid restricting the flow. If your fridge is leaking and you recharge it, it is just going to leak all out again, you need to find and fix the leak or at least add a stop leak product. This was a waste of time, money and bad for the environment.

For future servicing recover old refridgerant check for leaks by pumping in dry nitrogen to 100psi and check with leak detector or use soap bubbles and pull a vacuum to 500 microns and charge with liquid using a scale for accuracy id recommend fitting an access valve
It sounds like you have a leak. I’ve seen evaporators leak, but could also be from the condenser or compressor. You can spray soapy water to check for leaks. It would be best call a professional to come check it out for ya if the above doesn’t work.

You will fix one leak then get another...its like having a rusted chevy from the 60s, You fix a rusted sppot, then you find 10 more...These are the type of repairs you want to skip and spoil your wife to a new fridge. Also, if you have a unit that has a control board, display board,electronic thermostat, you can recycle these to sell online. Control boards range from 140 to 380 dollars. This is money you can use towards a new fridge. Appliances are worth more in parts than the entire thing.

Usually I add 50ml of swimming pool acid to the compressor before regassing. This is to keep it clean of rust

Bullet piercing valve is a temporary service valve. You should attach it to the process stub and crimp just below than braze.
