  • Tarnów is a charming city very close to Kraków where you can escape the crowds, immerse yourself in history, and soak up the laid-back energy. This medieval city is very well-preserved and the colourful main square will have you reaching for your camera. In this video we explore the city's pretty Old Town and try a bunch of different Polish foods at a local restaurant. We end the day at a cafe in an antique tramcar that was in service in Tarnów until World War II.
Thank you to Tarnów Travel for having us!

It looks very cosy and my answer is of course yes. I thought something strange as I was watching. As you sit inside, you're kind of on-show. You're inside enjoying the coffee and the history but also, you are being viewed by people on the street who are viewing this item of history. And I suddenly thought of those public toilet cubicles that are made out of one way glass! So you sit inside and can see outside as clear as day. But the people outside cannot see in. Although, it's kind of freaky and I for one would not use it!

These aren't Russian pierogi(Russian dumplings are pielmieni). The correct name is Ruthenian pierogi. The error in translation comes from everyday language. The word Ruski became synonymous with Russian in the 19th century. The Ruthenian Province was formerly Polish territories with Lviv and Halicz. After moving the eastern border of Poland (1945), they became part of western Ukraine. This is where these dumplings come from. This statue of J.P.II is a caricature. Like most monuments dedicated to him. The most interesting cities are Zamość (an ideal city founded by Jan Zamojski), Sandomierz, and Kazimierz Dolny.

If you like old works of art, then you must see 1890 years old painting of Black Madonna in Częstochowa, allegedly painted by st. Luke on the wood of Jesus's Last Dinner's Table.
Scientists confirm that the oldest layer of the paint is 1890 years old, and the wood on which it is painted has been cut down in I c. BC in Syria-Lebanon.

A small fix: "ruskie" doesn't mean "russian". Name "ruskie" comes from name of region "Ruś" (Ruthenia/Rus') - eastern terrirtory of medieval Poland. So "ruskie" means "ruthenian" NOT "russian". Maybe it's complicated, but it's very, very important :)
    Movie is marvelous :)

@PiEn To źle wiesz.

True. The name of "Pierogi Ruskie" comes from the region called Ruś Czerwona (eng. Red Ruthenia), also known in Poland as Eastern Lesser Poland. If it were "Russian Pierogi", the Polish name should be "Pierogi Rosyjskie" but it's "Pierogi Ruskie" It sounds similar but it's not the same.

Greeting from Tarnow :-) It's great to see that U liked our city :-). Apart from what U have shown there are some more nice places here...
    - Strzelecki park - beautifull city garden with a pond with general Bem memorial on island. General Bem was Polish and Hungarian national hero
    - Mościce district - an industrial part of the city that is one of best preserved examples of garden city concept in Poland
    - Sanguszko's palace - residence of noble family that owned the city in the past
    - St. Martin's Hill with ruins of castle, the oldest church in the area that still exists, and great panorama of whole city.
Not far from Tarnow there is also famous Zalipie village with houses painted in flowers that applies for UNESCO list

Hey travelers! Another great videoblog but just FYI "pierogi ruskie" translates into "ruthenian dumplings". Russian dumplings name is peljmeni and they are also great and super tasty but they are a little bit different ;) Like they could be stuffed with various fillings like mushrooms and a lot of different kinds of meat when instead Polish (and not only) ruthenian dumplings are usually stuffed with cottage cheese and potatoes :)

The 1st transport od people who went to Auschwitz consisted mostly of young people arrested while running away to France where Polish Government and Army was established after lost September Campaign of 1939. That Government called people to come to France to continue fight and many taken journey via Slovakia Hungry and Rumunia. It is important to notice the day of transport. These young men hoped that war will end quickly and they will be free because at that time there were fights between Germans and Franco/British forces. While on train and on short stoppage in Krakow news came that France collapsed [Germans boasted that by loudspeakers]. It was awful for them because there was no hope anything will change in the fate of the war [Soviet Union was an allay of Hitler at the stage of the war]

The best towns to visit are Zamosc, Sandomierz and Kazimierz Dolny if you like medieval towns and Lancut Palace.

Very informative and cool video. :)
Do not take this as some sort of attack but...
I have one advice - if You say Nazi you should add German as well. I know that in US & Canada when you think WW2 you say Nazi - but that word was invented after war push off the blame from German nation. So for the sake of all of those victims you spoke of (and that goes for whole Poland and other countries affected by the war) - I think you should consider using the name of the nation that was the couse of those horrible crimes. There is no nation of Nazi people.
Thank you both for your work. :)
