Apparently the Illinois Tollway system is replacing their bettery powered I-Pass transponders with a new sticker tag that's permanently affixed to windshield. There's no battery or deposit & it's E-Z Pass compatible.
It looks like there was places for LED in the bottom right. I wonder what happens if you hooked some up. I got one of the new black UNI devices. I'm wondering what's inside one of them. I may buy an extra one, and crack it open one day. Cheers!
Approx. 10 years, how do I know? Because my ezpass/izoom failed to let me on the tollroad Saturday and I just got off the phone (monday morning) with a customer service representative.
They told me I can buy a new one and delete the old one... but being nosey me, I opened mine up, and it's an easy to replace battery (only requires soldering two points). That'll cost less than $5 and 5 minutes of time (vs. $30+ and the hassle of initiating the new one and deleting the old one from my acct.)
You save me a teardown. Thank you
You’re welcome!

Very interesting, thanks for the info!
Used your video so I could install suction cups to the transponder. I didn't know what side had the extra space so i could drill a hole for the cups.
Glad it helped!

Always interesting to see what's inside!
Thanks👍

Hey @heliflyer7, is the transponder used for NC Quickpass on say NC-540?
This particular one was from West Va. toll roads. Used in the Midwest down to Florida.
The big question is: How long does the battery last?
That is a good question, haven't had one long enough to find out.
