In fact, the purpose of the Bluelock project, as we know from the first episodes, was to select the best 5 strikers for the Japan U-20 team within 6 months. This is why the eleminations were happening, but now, if we win this match, according to the deal, ego will take over the u-20 coaching, so the aim will now be to form a whole team (starting 11 and reserves) that will compete in the u-20 WC, rather than training a few strikers for another team.
Well thats the thing, Blue Lock's storytelling, the character arcs they go through *all* happen while they are *on* the field. Just look back at all of the moments we've had in season 1. Isagi finally understanding what his formula goals was (spatial awareness X direct shot), Nagi finally finding his fire/motivation for playing football because of Team Z's performance, Chigiri breaking free of his mental block, Bachira breaking free of his loneliness and need for a friend in football, Barou finding his new, more versatile way of being a king in soccer *because* of Isagi. If there is anything that has stayed consistent in Blue Lock from its inception, to the current point we are in the manga, almost 140 chapters ahead of when the u20 match happens, its that the matches themselves are exactly where all of our characters develop. Will Rin be able to free himself from Sae's ability to shut down his inner fire, his ego? Youll have to wait and see :3
I'd say Isagi has better vision than Niko but considering Isagi has the best compatibility with the guy whose team revolves around it'd be a waste to put him on defense

Isagi's not a sensor, he's an intuitive feeler

To be fair, Niko's vision is better suited for defense while Isagi's vision is suited for striking
