I don’t know what I would do without my own Golden boy, Gil and his wonderful Border/Lab sister, Izzy. And when I am down, regardless, the best thing for me is seeing a dog - i am partial to Goldie’s but really *any* happy dog - having fun, running free, exploring something new, satisfying their spirit of adventure, being well cared for, sharing affection and companionship, knowing they are safe and feeling secure as a treasured member of the family. They need us. To then, we really ARE their friends and guardians. Mom and dad. And perhaps young ones to take pride in protecting and nurturing in turn. I guess maybe it’s a “vicarious” thing. Or maybe it’s just a diversion from all the bad stuff, seeing Leo living the life his happy happy soul was meant to live. Thank you for giving him that ☺️😊

@@desi8922 …and the more I learn about animals in general, the more astonished I become at my own ignorance of the depths and complexity of their cognitive, emotional and social lives. We had an opossum living in our yard a few years ago. He was wonderful. We named him ‘Gus’. My brother told me yesterday he has a chipmunks friend who comes to his back deck every morning asking for a snack. Sharks… are affectionate and develop relationships with scuba divers they recognize. That said… dogs are out best friends. And among doings, Golden Retrievers are so special it’s almost impossible to believe 😊😊😊☺️

they say a dog has the nature of a true philosopher, when you see how different they are with humans than they are with other dogs it makes sense . They really connect with us and learn from us , they know when to obey and when to protect . only when the harsh reality of survival in the wilderness is in threat do you see them attack , or mistreatment by a poor master

How fortunate living in such an incredible place
I have had the absolute joy of three (and a half - the other half, Newfie 😊) Golden Retrievers. Plus a wonderful rascal who is like no other dog in the world 🥰. So I am familiar with Leo’s early morning (or any time) romps in the grass: I call it “The Golden Roll” 😊. It implies just what it sounds like: these dogs have hearts full of love 💕

Seeing dogs just enjoy the feeling of water against their fur or running around aimlessly in the park makes you realise how greedy and ungrateful humans can be. Dogs absolutely love life.
