We used to teach these songs and other historical songs in elementary school but alas, no more. We might teach the Woody Guthreis song, "If I had a Hammer." Songs as part of history in school are gone. They would even teach Northern and Southern songs from the Civil War but no more. Forget the Missiouri Cannal or the Railroad, Battle Hymn of the Republic. Songs are gone with the wind as our others, including "Troubled', Spanish and French songs.
