Sunrise Hike to Shawka Dam - Ras Al Khaima, UAE

Today we started the day watching the sunrise after a quick hike in Shawka Dam.
Located on the Eastern exteriors of the Ras Al Khaimah Emirate, it is only an hour-long drive from Dubai. Nestled between Moon-like Hajar Mountains, the Shawka dam serves as an ideal start for a relatively easy trekking adventure. It can last between a few hours to a full day of movement. Suitable for most age groups and fitness levels, this UAE hiking trail also has room for picnics and overnight camping along the way.

Hey there. From what I know you don’t need a permit to go hiking. You only need a permit if you charge to take people on a hike like an outdoor adventure company.
If you don’t charge and you’re just going for fun, you don’t need a permit. That’s what I found online. Give it a check.
