Program Time Warner Cable Remote To Operate TV

Here's a how-to video on a common problem most of us face at some point: how to program your cable remote to operate your TV. In this case, I program a Time Warner Cable remote to operate a Sony TV.

Many of the other videos have it wrong where you have to press the TV button first once it shuts down then you turn on the TV others say turn on the TV first then press the TV button kudos on a proper video.

I'm getting so frustrated. I do a search for the Spectrum Remote Control programming to Roku. Well, I was able to find the code online on the remote code list. It turns it on & off, but we cannot use the other buttons (such as the channel up & down or other buttons) to move around the screen & select the app we want, such as HULU, Crackle or any other type of ROKU tv app. There is no way of selecting them. Does anyone know how to program it to do such a thing? I apologize ahead of time for this (I do have horrible concentration & stuff. It was much worse after my last brain surgery). Any suggestions on how to program the spectrum (or time warner) 8780L remote to move about the screen, would be very much appreciated. So, thank you very much ahead of time, for your help. Like I said before, the roku is programmed to the remote, but apparently only for turning the device on & off.

Hey thanks. I had to dig out an old spare TWC remote after my regular one got busted by a fall. I thought I was gonna have a hard time getting it to work with my old TV but your method got it working in a couple mins.

Thanks so much for this video ! This helped a lot . This is also called the Auto-Search Method. It takes so long because this scans through all of the codes in the remote one at a time until it finds the right code . As I was doing this , my volume randomly went mute then a few more times the sound came on , I was tempted to stop but I kept going until the tv turned off 😄😄😄

FYI, you can just hold the channel button down. You DO NOT have to keep pressing the channel down button individually over and over

I have the same problem and the answer below DOES NOT turn off BOTH. It only turns off one or the other. Whichever I have pushed on the right side can I turn on or off from the left system button. I have to turn each one separate.

This allowed me to turn the TV on and off with the cable remote however I can not use the arrows or selection buttons on the remote. When the tv turns on it the screen has options to 'choose' what platform I want to watch TV from. For instance, I just programmed the remote according to your video and all it does it turn the TV on and off, no other functions work. I will have to fun the TV remote to 'choose' cable, netflix, prime, hulu, etc bc it is a smart tv. So in the end there is no point in programming the remote to the TV if all it does is turn the TV on and off. ??

Hmm I'm not familiar with that remote. However, TWC does have a troubleshooting page for their remotes. You could check it out, choose the model remote you have, and probably find some steps to program it there.
