- Lenovo Duet Review: This is my full review of the the Lenovo duet 2-1 Chromebook. The Lenovo Duet is a really excellent Chromebook and it's a 2-in-1 which means it works as a Chromebook tablet or you can attach the included keyboard cover and then it works just like a normal Chromebook.

This Lenovo Chromebook works well as a laptop replacement, and even has stylus support and works with a mouse for the ultimate budget laptop experience. The Lenovo Duet really is refreshing piece of technology and even as a PC snob, it has really changed my opinion on Chromebooks and I think that the Duet is a really good product. In my opinion it's one of the best tech products of 2020 and is already one of the best Chromebooks 2021 has to offer! Tech news; tech review.

I have the 128GB model. The biggest thing for me, is my ability to play a lot of the newest AAA games with the streaming services. The screen size is a much better experience than using my cellphone when I'm out. Stadia, Geforce Now and xCloud work really well. I've been playing Cyberpunk 2077 on Stadia. It's a great tablet all around, imho.
If you're happy with the input latency you can get with Stadia, Geforce Now and xCloud, this is actually much cheaper to use than building a real gaming PC.
Very good review. Pushed me over the edge to order a Duet 3.
I just got this, it's a great device for the price! The performance is around a mid-range android phone, though I'm still able to write some code in the linux container. Great review, you've got a new fan 😊
Which coding app are you using here?
@@cmlosaria I use Spyder IDE
Chrome OS is surprising snappy. I had an old 1.6 GHz Celeron based chromebook (that I got for $40 on ebay) and the thing felt blazingly fast for an ancient CPU. Would boot up fully in about 7 seconds 🙂
I bought it before Christmas and I am really impressed. Decent specs at the right price and looks nice. I now have the USI pen Lenovo, great addition.
Oh nice. I need to get one if those styluses. I'm glad you're enjoying it
So glad I chose this one - especially after your stellar review! I paid $249 from Best Buy, and got the 128gb size for the $249!!!
My son has the Lenovo Idea Pad laptop and I am a writer, so wanted something of my own to store documents on, so that they’re not on my sons laptop.
It’s charging up now, still haven’t played with it, but am excited!
I thought I needed Microsoft Word - but apparently I can write in Google docs!
Hey.. how's it when you are typing your documents considering the small screen and a slim keyboard?
@@idriskavla4641 I don’t mind it at all! It is much larger than my iPhone 11! Happy as a clam. Also, Google Docs is free, no need for Word!
Very impressed w it. Keyboard is excellent
@@idriskavla4641 speaker isn’t the best, but I use my beats headphones via Bluetooth
Very helpful review. Thank you
You’re very welcome.
I got the 128GB model for 229 at Best Buy. Was very surprised. I have an Anker usb-c dock that allows display out on hdmi. Pretty cool device
Nice. That's a great deal and combo
After using it for a while _ would you have had regrets paying $250 for it.?
I don't regret it at all
@@jayvansickle7607 nope. I wouldn't
@@shaomari1 Question... if you don't mind. Is the storage eMMC or eMCP? Amazon says eMCP...others say eMMC. thanks.
A bluetooth mouse leaves the USB C port free and works just fine. I bought my Duet on sale for $249 and got the 128 gb version. 2 weeks and I am also finding it very useful. replacing my android tablet completely and I don't "need" my laptop nearly as much to get things done.
I don't have a bluetooth mouse to test it with. I do have a dongle for a wireless mouse and it didn't work.
Bought this for my son. I rather him had his own chromebook vs using the schools.
He highly enjoys it
It’s perfect for that!
Also a wireless mouse with the bluetooth dongle will work. But how i have my son's setup with a usbc multi dongle.
he has an additional monitor, bluetooth keyboard and mouse and headphones.
If you are letting your kids use it i would suggest grabbing one of those dongles of of amazon
@@dalast1woke it may depend on the mouse. Like I said, I tried mine and it didn’t work, so I don’t know why some work and some don’t. That’s good to know that at least some work though
Just bought it for my kids homeschooling (yay lockdown) , perfect for Google classroom and video chat.
I have one of these it works great ! and the logitech M355 mouse works on bluetooth perfect .
Nice!
Thanks! Great video! Just ordered it on Amazon to replace Fire 10HD. I see a lot more features on this Duet and I guess Chrome OS will be much "friendly and open" than Fire OS not just for daily basic office tasks but also for media consumption.
Hey question has it came in? I ordered the 2021 HD but Im thinking of getting the duet instead. How do you like it so far? Is the screen good for movie watching?
@@d.edwardsfreelanceeditorvi4212 I ended up returning it and getting an iPad 8th gen instead. It was "ok" but not really good for drawing purposes. I also found out Chrome OS is not really "friendly" nor "open" if you want to install APKs manually. I'm using procreate app on iPad now and there's a huge difference in performance. Depending on what you're going to use the tablet for, either could be good. I just think iPad is a little bit more versatile. Hope this helps!
I watched loads of reviews on this tablet, I was sold and bought it, not one of the videos tells you that the screen response time is bad, especially when it comes to pressing an accept button or when typing a password and it doesn't register any of the letters you pressed until you do it like 6 times, and that's not over exaggerated, I have never had a chrome os tablet before and I won't be getting another, I even went into a shop (not the shop I bought from) to test their display and it was just as bad, I googled it and so many people with the same issues but not one review about this flaw, and I have tried cheaper tablets that are better. Regretted not getting a Samsung tablet, but I definitely will get one now. I was only looking it for a Sonos controller too lol
Great video. Really awesome device, a lot better than I expected it to be. Makes a great RDP device in a pinch as well, especially w/the keyboard and touchpad.
Great review! Thank you for helping me decide what chromebook to buy. Just placed an order on this! :)
If you really want to see what a good Chromebook can do at a reasonable price try either the Lenovo Flex 5 or the Acer spin 713 Those two Chromebooks are incredible and not just for kids school but for an everyday use
have you try lenovo duet 5? is it any good if you did.
Unfortunately I have not tried it. Sorry
Just got one for myself - charging it up, but love it so far!
I just ordered a renewed one from Amazon for $175. I've been wanting something to use in the kitchen (I make a lot of UA-cam dishes) that I can see better than my phone, and with a keyboard for easy typing. Can't wait for it to come in so I can unchain from my desktop.
Cool! I hope you like it
Just ordered one and I can't wait!! Do these have a blue light filter?
What about the performance of the device? Is the Mediatek chipset doing well enough in it?
Oh, go ahead and try Linux. Yes, I know, you mention Linux in your HP chromebook X2 review, but believe it or not, I just bought this tablet because I want to see how good chromebook linux is. Imagine my annoyance when I found out that Duet 5 will be coming out any day now. What I really want is an 11-12 inch Linux tablet, and the 5 is supposed to be 13.3. Anyway, looking forward to your first review of the Duet 5, while I see how Linux works on the Duet with 128 GB eMMC. And no, I'm not getting the HP X2 with 128GB eMMC. It's about 700 bucks, too pricey for the specs, IMO. Oh, and thanks for another GREAT review!
I just had this for a month with $200 CAD which is really a good deal. I love the appearance so much the color is so beautiful. And so far I'm satisfied with it. The only thing is the CPU speed feels a bit slow to me. Signing out takes about 5 seconds black screen time to go back to user login screen. And it won't be very responsive if I open 4 - 5 apps at the same time. But with that price, what can you say about it. I wish I could spend $100 more to just upgrade the CPU and it would be a perfect gadget for me.
Thanks for the video……can you use an external drive with this unit ? ……great comprehensive review, thanks 👍👏😃🇨🇦
I believe you can access a drive with an OTG adapter.
Even cheaper than my phone... Why I didn't found it earlier
Definitely impressive with the kind of features it contains and the great use of Helio P60T chipset in it.
Thanks for the great perspective---I also alternate all day between Windows, Macs, and Chromebooks, and find myself using Chromebooks more and more. If you're in the market for a Chromebook, check out either the Lenovo Flex 5 for around $399 or the Acer 713 Spin for between $530-$630. I agree with your comments about the cheap HP Chromebooks, but if you hook them up to a monitor or cast them to a larger screen they can be tolerable.
You're welcome. Glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching and for the feedback
Soooo is it still worth it?
I am think about buying it refurnished dor 120 usd ...
I want it tor netflix, browsing, TeamViewer, and if possible cod in the lowest graphic levels
Thank you i bought it today in sweden for 269 euro with google nest included. For me it seems like a good deal 😊
Awesome. Glad you liked the video. I hope you enjoy the Duet. Thanks for watching
@@TechOdyssey yes i do 😊
Great review. Straight talk.
Hey good review, would this be good for taking notes at uni? And also is it easy to download Microsoft word on it? Thank you
Is it good for college students? Like does it has all the applications which volley students need?
The only thing I find a little annoying is I cant use the mouse to scroll down or grab the scroll bar...maybe theres a trick to it? Over all I love this device, my computer is dying so I needed a backup and to take to college...brilliant for on the go and love watching movies on it, yes different placement of the volume and power button would be better for next model, thats really the only change I'd suggest and possibly the ability to add a micro SD. But I so love this device.
Glad you're enjoying it so much!
Screen and keyboard are both too small for a good laptop replacement, and also for split-screen multitasking.
Samsung Tab S7 FE 12" runs Android 11, but also has Dex mode, so I will probably get that instead.
I wish there was a 13" Detachable ARM Chromebook, in the Surface Pro form-factor.
Nice rig! Can the Lenovo Duet use a USB LAN adapter for a wired internet connection while Chrome OS Wireless mode is disabled and toggled off? There are some situations where speed and performance are paramount, and a stable wired connection is usually faster than Wi-Fi. Any clues appreciated. Thank you for informative video.
How is this going for you? Have you dumped the Tab S7+ for it?
It's fine, but no I haven't dumped my tab S7+ for it. They are on two entirely different levels. Not diminishing how good the Duet is. It's just not the same - it's also a chromebook versus an android tablet.
I really thought that the title said pissed instead of impressed when I first read it😅
I would buy it again but it's not very useful for work. If I use it at work it's to check email and read documents. The keyboard is decently spaced and easy to type on. That's it for work. Duet is not setup for using spreadsheets and I compared it to my Acer 715 that is a workhorse. The Duet does not have a 10key pad, does not have a dedicated delete key which are two minimum must-have's for spreadsheets. Another shortcoming is the Duet keyboard has to be on a flat surface. So, for my needs, Duet is not meant to be an all purpose notebook. What I really enjoy about Duet is it's amazing battery life, quick processor, and bright screen.
I am using the same usb-c dongle and it works with my wireless mouse. Its a pretty cheap universal mouse too, should be fine with most wireless mice!
Just ordered as a secondary chromebook prior to watching this, Amazon $234
Nice!
Is Netflix and Prime Video Android app working on the duet? If it so can you download any content? Can we do that as well from YT and YT Music?
Yes netflix and prime work and you can download episodes
Great video! Can I use google maps navigation on it while travelling? Like a normal mobile.
If it is tethered to your phone wireless signal or wifi, yes. Otherwise, nope.
Would the stylus from a LG Stylo 4 work on Touch screen? Also, does the Bluetooth mouse need to meet any sort specification?
Great review.
I've been using the Duet for a couple of weeks and beats most of the "budget" chromebook based of those celeron CPUs.
Few things, MS has dropped app support from Chrome OS... go figure. This might be a chipset thing but coming with a bluetooth 4 is quite bad. It drops off if right across the room while newer bluetooth 5 can keep connectivity much further.
Also, avoid the beta or dev channel for Chrome OS. Breaks a lot of Android apps or they dont work including Google apps.
I am unable to watch netflix or disney plus...any video for that matter after it sleeps...I usually have to restart it which is annoying...am i missing something???
Did you get a USB C HUB,, with HDMI out ????
as it will drive an external screen .... I use a TRIBIT Bluetooth speaker & Logitch KBD / Mouse .. as a DESK presence
.... did you try the Built in LINUX ??
.... did you buy a USI 1.0 pen & try ,,, ARTrage .. an android drawing app
Don't but it...youtube is not working on it many programs is not supported
What programms?
How much is the lenovo stylus? Does it only work with a lenovo stylus?
Looks great and very good price 👏
Yes! Very much so.
You should be sure to include which duet you are talking about in the opening. Like is this the 5 or 3? I know you mention the specs, but not for the first few minutes. Sorry long comment just a suggestion. Loved the video otherwise
When I made this video, it was the only Lenovo Duet.. also the new ones you are referencing are called Lenovo Ideapad Duets.

the volume is way to low on this thing, is there a hack to increase the output?
I think that they should put at least one more usb c port and maybe headphone jack.
That would have been nice
Is it compatible with pen,?
Yes. But only certain kinds. Lenovo sells one
does anyone else feel that it lags a lot? and android apps collapse very often. I checked that the ram is always almost full, what is using that much ram?
just wondering would a samsung note pen/stylus work in Lenovo duet?
No it won't. I tried
I am wondering what it is like gor zoom calls

the speaker is a real deal breaker for me,hopefully they come out with a better version
no, it's not. the speaker works just fine. i was thinking the same before and planning to buy external headphone but it works just fine. believe me. and you will get better sound if you connect it to your TV as external monitor when you watch videos or movies
The detachable Lenovo duet it's full of errors and the updates aaarrrgggg, not good at all, got one and the keyboard is unworking, so sad. 😢
I love mine. I just wish 16 gig and more processing power.
All good man good video but your audio needs to be normalized.. like 20 percent higher
This is an old video. My audio has completely changed since then
How do you download COD mobile to the duet?
Android play store
I bought this to replace my pixelbook go. The Go was awesome but the hinges were so fragile that 1.5 yrs of use made it break. Google does not care about this known issue. So with the duet I will not have to worry about fragile hinges.
pixelbook go is expensive. I expected it to last at least 4 years :/ Sorry to hear that
Can we use spen on it ?
Does it work in word and excel?
Yes
can't you use a Bluetooth mouse ?
It depends. Not all of them work. Mine didn't, but Lenovo sells one
I'm finding the Chromebook a bit clunky in some areas, so when using the UA-cam android app you can use 2 fingers swipe gesture on the trackpad to go from mini screen to medium screen and then to full screen but for some reason you can't do the same to come out of full screen. the duet is my first Chromebook and I've only had it a few days, I love it but there's just a few things that don't seem very well implemented.
I have one, not much power but very good for the price
Would you suggest an alternative of this ?
I subscribe cause you asked nicely 😊

Has anyone run either Octane 2.0 or Speedometer 2.0 on this thing? On a Chrome Browser? I am well aware of the shortcomings of both tests but given that Chrome OS is centered on the browser I think they are relevant. Thanks!

plenty for a Chromebook for most uses. When you get into running Linux containers and apps it can be limiting, but overall it's not an issue. I'm a developer working in Atom and VS Code using Chromebooks including the Duet and overall it's handled everything I've thrown at it.
It's a chromebook, not a laptop or a high end phone. This is plenty of RAM for what it does.
