Love this. Hope to eventually be able to play with this much control over dynamics and still sound sharp and snappy. His note groupings are so tight. Watch Mark's hihat leg bounce... That's the quarter note!
i love this because it feels great and its tuneful and it brings me in for a transformative listen. this means i forgot what my thoughts were prior to these great players beginning . just like i would an Al Greene tune. love it!!!
A real honest question: Does this music make you feel something or you enjoy this becuase it's complex? And, would you enjoy it if you didn't know the tune they are playing? Like honestly I'm trying to understand
I don't know the tune and I love it. I'm not english so it's difficult for me to explain. It would be difficult in spanish too, to be honest with you. I like jazz in general, but obviously I don't like all the jazz I listen to. This one, for me, is amazing. Maybe it's related to the fact that I'm a drummer and I love Mark's approach to drums. What he does between 0:11 and 0:27 is completely outstanding to me. It's complex but it's subtle. I'm not here only because of the drums. And I'm not here only because of the complexity. I like a lot of genres. 30 minutes ago I was listening to Electric Warrior by T-Rex. I love it. Is it complex? I don't think so, at least compared with this. It's the feeling. I'm not really answering your question but I need to answer you because I think the question is too good. Again, sorry for my english...
ua-cam.com/video/qweSlfP6BtI/v-deo.html Check that out and see if you like it better. The pianist in the vid, Thelonious Monk wrote it. "Evidence" is the name. If you like that, come back and listen to the duo playing it and see if you like it better when you know what they are playing.
I love your honesty my friend 😊 I have asked similar questions myself in the past! My answer may be a little biased because I'm a jazz musician and I know that tune, but I almost died with excitement listening to their interaction and creativity! For me, I feel many emotions listening to this... But I completely understand if someone else doesn't feel a thing from it. To me, enjoying, understanding, or feeling anything from different types of music is similar to knowing languages -- if you understand the language being spoken you get more out of the message. For example: I don't speak French but I can enjoy 10 minutes or so of listening to the beautiful sounds of a French conversation 😉 ... Maybe someday I'll learn French and get a variety of emotional responses and even educational yields by listening to it and participating in conversations with others who speak it!
Well I enjoy that music can be many many things. There's a time for "easy to consume" beats'n'bass. But if every aspect of music were "BOOM (chizzz) BOOM(chizzz) BOOM(chizzz) BOOM(chizzz)" on 1, 2, 3 and 4 and "Mah niggas gonna get them money and them ho's flashing my style burn the haterzzzzz homies gangsta in the hood yeah yeah" id be kinda bummed out. To reverse your own question: Does simpler music make you feel something or do you enjoy the fact that you can put it on and not really pay attention to it while you clean your house or do the dishes?
@@steelejerome That's what I thought, too, but I scoured Adam's Instagram, the Morfbeats site, and frequent a shop that gets a bunch of his stuff, and I've never seen a Morfbeats piece even remotely like that. If you have a model name or a place you've seen one, I'd be very curious to know.
I'm guessing neither of the two strange things on his kit are actually sold as drum accessories, but that they're probably random things he's experimenting with.
You may be right about that with some of the accessories, but the bells are called Clam Ankle Bells, and you can get a little string of them on Amazon for $20.
People like thelonius monk give jazz a bad name, its not all random slamming on piano keys. Of course monk had some good songs but jesus christ this one is just absolute shit. I challenge yall to dance to this abomination let me know how that goes
@@hotdogskid if you're not familiar with it, then don't call it random, cause you simply can't understand the logic of harmonic, melodic and rhythmic moves. You're only showing us your ignorance as you're saying that everything you don't understand is shit or that it has to be danceable. As someone noted here before, its pretty simple chord progression just with different approach.
You have good friends to play standards with.
dude Marks drumming from 0:10 to 3:32 is just amazing
totally agreed.
Jazz drumming is so cool. So freaking satisfying
Their perception of time is impeccable

You know its good when you are tilted slightly backwards and your facial expression says "oh damn" throughout the whole video...

What is the metal object on his floor tom?
Not sure what the instrument is called but morfbeats made it I believe.
Its a metal object that sits on a floor tom. The thing on the snare is called a snare thingy
yes!!
great
Yes

I hate to be "that guy", but can anyone identify the crescent shaped bell Mark has on his floor Tom?
Morfbeats
