You have such a nice, sweet demeanor and very pleasant voice. You seem like a natural for reading children's stories. You almost come across as though you're reading them. Your video was very explanatory and a nice introduction to this beautiful plant. Thanks! 🥰💐
Awwwwww thanks so much. I actually did volunteer work in the elementary school system where I would read to the children. It’s neat that you picked up on that. Thank you for the positive and very kind feedback. I am hoping you are well and wishing you the best! HAPPY GROWING!
@@PictureMaria1 Oh, that's awesome! No surprise. I'd like to read to children. I created an Illustrated story when I was in 2nd grade. My teachers loved it so much they told other teachers and then had me go read it to the kindergarten class. Happy growing and happy Summer to you!
Gardening at Douentza I've been really fortunate with these Radican Orchids...they are such loving plants and don't need much attention at all...one of the easiest Orchids of all and I just love them! Thanks for watching and so glad you stopped by to visit!!! Happy Gardening!!!
This was a great video, I recently found a pot of these at my son's new rental home. I broke off a couple of the keikis and placed them in a fine bark medium. In 2 weeks they already have new leaves. I am anxious to follow their growth. Oh, by the way--a very small correction. I used to live in Hawaii and the Hawaiian word "keiki" is the very commonly used word for babies and small children, really to the exclusion of any other word. It is universally pronounced kay-kee though--rhyming with baby.
+Khrishna Moore Awwwww thanks so much! That is awfully kind of you to say! :) Thank you so much for watching! :) I would like to also ask you to join me on my orchid adventures on face book... facebook.com/MyOrchidAdventures ...HAPPY GROWING! :)
Fern Crafts ...and thank you for stopping by and watching...The radican orchids are one of my most favorite orchids...they are just beautiful plants that keep on giving...not to mention one of the easiest orchids to grow.
Yes thats what I was told when given the cutting however its too cold here in Ontario, Canada so I'm really not sure if I can get it to bloom :( but I'm not giving up on it just yet...lol!
You’re fun to watch ! Made me smile while enjoying your orchid presentation. ‘Luv the many names . I’m curious why it’s also called the Crucifix orchid ? Any thoughts? God bless your garden 🪴
Good video, but how about giving us some timing Best case scenario, how long is the cycle from when you plant a baby keiki until it blooms? Months? Years? Thanks.
Good question...these plants grow like weeds and can be rapid bloomers...some keikis can bloom within that same year...while others if given the appropriate growing requirements should bloom the following bloom cycle.
Thanks for the quick reply! I just today received a massive overgrown pot of these from an aunt who had been neglecting it. It was half dead, but I separated the good stalks and repotted them, breaking this one massive cluster into about a dozen pots, including some tiny keikies. Hopefully by this time next year I'll have some new blooms! I already have a pot that's grown about 12 - 15 feet tall with half a dozen blooming clusters and several other smaller pots. I inherited all these plants from my mother who had a green thumb. I'm doing my best to learn how to care for them. But I do love the way these blooming orange clusters can stay pretty for months! I'm in Los Angeles area. I don't have any in the ground, they're all in pots.
+jazmaan YES they are hardy growers and prolific bloomers...and what is best is that they can practically grow anywhere...I got some in my tree that are just growing and vining all over the place. ...and what a whopper of an orchid it must've been...now you have several that you can find a way to creatively display! I am hoping they all do well for you and you can fully enjoy thier beauty. :)
+Brian Camacho I have seen them growing in full sun...although they seem to be a lithe weaker. Mine are in partial sun and partial shade and they do wonderful...they are extremely healthy and bloom almost throughout the year. I water them about twice a week outdoors.
+Emmahahah They will continue to rebloom off of other stems as they mature. You do not have to cut it back...they will begin to produce new growths of new keikis on its own...if you want the plant to become more bushy and assist in producing more keikis then you may opt to cut it back...and if you do make sure you do not throw away the cuttings because they will also continue to grow if they have ariel roots. :) HAPPY GROWING! :)
Thank you so much...and thank you for stopping in for a visit...I sure do appreciate it...I have a library of plant and orchid , inspirational, entertainment and art's and craft videos... I hope we stay connected and always know you are always welcome to visit! It is a pleasure to meet you Marcia and I am hoping all is well! :)
Do they have to be in pots? I have a few starters that are in small pots and don't look too healthy. What about soil? Ours is rather sandy, so I was wondering if I can plant them in the ground or is it better to keep them in pots?
You can absolutely grow in the ground as these are considered ground growing orchids...good luck and I hope they take up and grow like wild fire for you! :)
Hi Maria, Thak you for yor beautiful video. I Have a question for you. I have 02 beautiful epidendrums, on is orange, and the other is purple, I noticed last week, they both have some kind of capsules that are located, very close to the flowers, and I assume they can have seeds inside. Do you know what is this, and what shoud I do w/ this. Thank you again. Elisa
Elisa V When the blossoms become fertilized the flower will dry up at the end and you will notice that it begins to look similar to an elongated tube...then it begins it becomes thicker giving off a definite seed pod shape. You can either allow them to create the seed pod and leave them...or if you want to take them off to give the plant more energy to create keikis or perhaps another flower spike you can do that as well. If you were planning to try to grow the powdery seeds...unfortunately you will not be able to unless you have knowledge of how to provide the appropriate growing conditions providing it with agar and sealing them in a flask. Your average grower can not grow orchids from seed because it is such an intricate process (almost like a science project). I usually just leave mine on my plant...it gives it a nice visual interest. Thank you for watching my video...and I hope this helps. :) Take care and HAPPY GROWING!
That depends upon at what stage they are at and the weather conditions. These orchids like it above 10C but will easily tolerate down to 10C. We have them growing like weeds in Australia where I'm from but now living across the globe in a cooler climate they need to be grown indoors for me. I'd say within a week to week and a half if the temp is like above 20C constantly from when one can see colour showing through on the inflorescence (all other things being equal-like plenty of water and sunlight, E. radicans can easily handle full blazing sun). Plus the blooms can last easily 3 months plus!
I have yet to find a nursery in Southern California who sells them. I called Cal-Orchid in Santa Barbara and he said nobody sells these anymore, and that's regrettable.

Do the radicans like full sun or partial sun? What is best for blooming? How much water is best for them?

How do they rebloom? The flowers on mine are almost all gone, do I need to cut it back to get it to rebloom? Thanks, love your videos!

It's huge!!
Orchid Dreaming Yea my Radican Orchids have really grown in size...it's taking over my Garden!!! LOL!
Hi!! I love your videos I have been looking for the radican orchids I haven't found any I would love it if you could send me a cutting
I have yet to find a nursery in Southern California who sells them. I called Cal-Orchid in Santa Barbara and he said nobody sells these anymore, and that's regrettable.
Love how you produced your video. It shows you used great planning and patience in creating it. Good for you!
No mention of temperature they grow in or watering or they they have aerial roots ,skipped a lot of video to find info but sadly that was lacking.
Oh wow such a beautiful orchid. Would love some cuttings :)
