Thank you. Absolutely the information I need to rehabilitate a crucifix orchid that I inherited then neglected (thinking it almost indestructible) when I hid it behind other plants to spare it the salt wind that owns my garden. Yesterday I cut away the dead canes and now have an assortment of stems, roots and pups, so will give them all a go and a little more TLC. ❤
At the very top of my list of flowers to admire is the family of orchids. The varieties seem to be endless. Unfortunately, my living zone is not conducive to growing them outdoors. I have limited myself to a few silk orchid arrangements indoors. Your video demonstration was extremely interesting.
Hi Bertha, the Five star orchid is not complex. I normally take the cane and stick them in my hanging baskets or at the edge of my flower pots for propagation purposes. And literally forget about them and suddenly you get a bloom stalk. They pick up really fast.
That isn Epidendrum radicans, it is an Epidendrum ibaguense, E. radicans has resupinated flowers. They used to be the same specie but now we know they are different species. Anyways it is a beatiful flower and an amazign Orchid to grow. I live in Guatemala and both of this 2 species are native they are very similar but not the same. If you have a chance to visit here you will find the true E. radicans growing in the volcanos. Great video amyways im subscribing, i love to see orchids native from my country growing on diferent enviroments. PD: Epidendrum radicans is even easier to propagate than ibaguense, because it grows a lot of roots, you can even prpagate them in water.
Wow thanks for sharing. Will definitely look up the difference. By the way I am sure we do share a lot of plants that grow in Guatemala, plants that were bought in and propagated. Thank you for subscribing and Merry Xmas sending greetings to Guatemala.
Hi, you should prune the stems just below where you had the flower head. This is to prevent any of the flowers that are at the end of their blooming going into seed production.
For some odd reason the epidendrum that I bought from Andys Orchids last year is stunted growth. I'm going to try planting it like you have now, I removed it from the stick it was on. The leaves are only 1/4 inche apart (stunted), not 5 inches apart like yours. I hope I can save it it cost me a lot of money.
Hi thank you for following my channel. The five star orchid is a tropical plant. Unfortunately 5 degress celsius is too cold and 15 degress would prevent it from flowering. The minimum temperature would be around 25 degress celsius. However, if you kept it indoors and bought it out in summer, that would be ok.
My mother grew hers in a temperature range from 40 Celsius to an occasional frost. It grew in a pot beside other plants and beside a concrete path with a brick wall 1.5 m away. It was in sun all but late afternoon and would have had reflected heat from the hard surfaces nearby. Since I inherited the plant, it is in a slightly warmer environment. This is close to Melbourne, Australia, on the coast. It may be more forgiving than you think.

Great, I find that the "Pups" are faster to propagate as they already are starting to root. Do propagate the other stems and enjoy your plant.
Love your channel, I wish you had more videos.
Hi thank you for your lovely comment. Check our UA-cam channels we have close to 180 episodes. Once again thank you.
Lovely tutorial, thank you so much. Very interesting
Thanks Cheryl so encouraging.

Beautiful lady!
Thank you.
Hi! What should I do when all flowers are gone and the stems are bare? Should I cut them or leave like that?

Can you actually attach these to a tree like a palm?
Yes you can, I would treat it like a orchid. Root the five star orchid in an orchid medium and attach it onto a tree using fish nylon.
Where r u located ?? Africa???
Sending greetings from Nairobi, Kenya.
