I am going to bring on some other photographers to get the BTS for their best shots. Who would you like to see, and which photos?
Michael Shainblum!!!
Nick Page
Adam Gibbs or Paul Zizka
Great suggestions!
Peter Lik and his Moonlit Dreams...LOL just kidding. Any image by David Fokos, or Chuck Kimmerle "Alien" or "Dancing Birch", and you couldn't go wrong with Jay Vulture either. Great story behind this image of yours. Take care and stay safe.
Loving this series. I love the adaption to whatever you find when you get there.
Awesome, thanks, Damon! Will keep it going.
This shot is Legendary. I remember seeing this photo while scrolling through top 50 placing images on Epson Panoramic Awards 2017. I got mine in the top 50 a year earlier and was hoping to see my submission there again in 2017 but it didn't happen lol.
I was curious (and confused) back then about what is exactly the actual subject is and I never thought will get the complete explanation 3 years later. 🤣
Superb quality work 👍👍👍
Haha, thanks! Glad we came full circle. And congrats on the Epson placement in 2017. I too have failed to crack the Top 50 in the past three years.
Fabulous, Josh. Keep ‘em coming!
Great vid Josh! Thanks for sharing! 👍
Wonderful image showing the power of the water coming down. I captured a similar image in Telluride of Bridal Veil Falls one sunrise morning a few years back including the tops of the pine trees washed in early light as a foreground. Watching your various series on You Tube helped me look for something different than my original intent for a composition that morning-for that I say ‘thank you’. It’s why I watch and learn then try to apply it in the field when the opportunity presents itself. Keep up the great work but equally as important for some of us, keep helping us understand the ‘how’ and ‘why’ so we can think differently in the field! That’s my takeaway...
Great explanation to an also great shot! Thanx Josh!
Awesome!!! 😊😊😊
These "How I got the Shot" episodes are such a great idea! Thanks again for taking us deep inside the shot.
Awesome and great imagination to get this type of shot!
Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks for sharing the detail surrounding this shot Joshua. Its really interesting to hear your thought process and how you overcame the challenges to get this stunning shot.
Amazing shot.
Thank you , this is brilliant information, I will be forever looking for this phenomenon in all the waterfalls around home , Coastal BC!!!!!
Another stunning image Joshua and a great story behind it, thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it, Rob.
I happened to find your amazing channel while looking for ND filters. I love your series of explaining where the shot was taken and how it was captured and how it was post processed. It really helps me to grow as photographer. Thank you so much! Subscribed.
Hi, Josh! The shot you got is astonishing! You're such a great artist! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you very much, Paulo!
Good one, Joshua. It's fun to hear the full story of a shot, and what you think about. Tracking a waterfall all the way down. Wow!
this image is absolutely fantastic and wonderfully done.. i have my first tele lens (200-500mm) since few days now and i found your work searching few interesting ideas (others than the birds) for to start.. i'm a lover of sunrise/sunset but i'm far of a good point of view of it.. your videos are truly inspiring and beautifully presented!!!
These videos are great Josh! One learns more in one of your 10+ min. videos than in the hour long masterclasses of other photographers! Keep up the good work and the wonderful photos
Geez, thanks a lot! That makes me really happy to hear you find them so useful.
New to your channel, was looking for photographers in the CA mountains to follow. Fantastic shot.
Thank you for bring back the memories of backing packing the eastern sierra and seeing some of the same location that I have passed through years ago. The detail of your photos are outstanding and makes me wise I was up in mountains camping, keep it up.
Hey Dave, me too! Next summer never comes soon enough, eh?
Great background information how you captured this image Joshua. Persistence is a great virtue for a Landscape photographer to have. Re Yosemite National Park; YES I have heard of it, NO, I haven't been there, probably never will. (I'm from Australia). I'd rather go to NZ, Norway-Lofoten (again), Iceland, Scotland. It's interesting that the image on your page background is of "THAT WANAK TREE" before someone mutilated it in the last 12 months :(.
Cheers! :)
Really inspiring! Greetings from Germany
I really enjoy these kinds of videos! Please do one talking about how you got the UAE eclipse shot with the man and his camel!
Such a crazy shot! Looks like the sketchy hike in definitely paid off!🤭🤯
It definitely did!
Very good story.. and the picture.. and the title of the picture.. 👍
Keep on your good work!
Thank you very much!
Great
At first I thought it was an snow avalanche, Fantastic capture!
Many thanks!
It's a beauty shot. I would have done the exact same process with it.
Beautiful photo. It looks a Hubble image of a nebula.
My God, you have courage, I think the locals call that Rattlesnake Ridge, most definitely not for the faint of heart. I love the shot and will try using the techniques next time I shoot a waterfall. Great video!
Thank you for the kind words!
Amazing photo, really good idea to talk through from being on location to how you processed the image, that gives me an idea...😉
Great to hear!
Im not sure you disclosed enough how dangerous the location is, you did try.
Really good group of videos that define how to get unique shots in over shot locations. Great detail!
very nice, tnx. It reminds me a bit of the old spice ad where the horses were coming out of the waves or something.
Absolutely
Great shot, Joshua. Thanks for sharing this with us. I can verify that this location is very sketchy in that the "trail" isn't that large and it's very exposed in sections. People should NOT be taking their younger kids up there. Secondly, If you head up there on a nice sunny day, you will definitely need more water than you think. Third... if photographers have a very long lens, ie. 600 or so, it is still possible to get in tight on those water cascades while shooting from a side angle. There are quite a few spots on the valley floor and up into Yosemite Village that could give photographers similar results without making this sketchy climb...especially if they are less experienced. Lastly (not trying to talk people out of this but I came back a little rattled after my first trip up there) there was a moderately sized rattle snake cooling off under a rock in front of me just before I got to the base of the falls. 😬. Experienced hikers and rock climbers should have no problem at all, but if you are new at that kind of thing, you don't want this to be your first hike in the valley.
Cheers, William. Sage advice you offer here. This "hike" is not for the unprepared and can easily lead to dangerous situations if you don't know what you're doing.
A moment in time that will never happen again.
Great image and very interesting/helpful to learn about technique/settings for things that are not the usual static landscape setup. How do you determine where to pin the points on the tone curve?
Hi Roger. Happy you found it helpful. For the tone curve I used the targeted adjustment tool, and pinned one point on the water highlights, and one point on the water's shadows.
@@JoshuaCrippsPhotography Love that target adjustment tool. Thanks!
I'll be in Yosemite next month... It's been over 30 years
The one dislike must have been Ansel Adams jealous ghost........Nah, I reckon he would have loved this shot, he loved that park and those falls.
Great shot!!!! Was this taken with your big ass Nikon 70-200mm? I have the Sigma 70-200mm and that thing is heavy as hell. You shot this hand held? No tri or monopod? Impressive!!!!
Joshua, You may want to try to get Michael Frye who you probably already know. A long shot might be William Neil who I'm sure you're familiar with and a new up and coming photographer is Franka Gabler.
do you always check your photos after you take each ones?
So I'm getting the how, but I'm still at a loss for the why. What made you decide to make that trek up the side of a cliff to find this scene? What did you think you would find?
If an astronomer told me that was a photo of a nebula I would have no problem believing it
You don't have to worry. There is no way I would even try to climb up Yosemite. Even if I had Spock's jet boots on. I will let you take those photos. Thank you very much. LOL
Was there like 6 weeks ago, unfortunately not a single drop of water left in the falls :-(
That's typical for this time of year. Go back in the spring and you will feel the ROAR!
As Weegee said ...ƒ/8 and be there.
"zoomed all the way in to 200mm" wildlife photographer... you mean zoom out? XD
