Russell motor grader

Grading the driveway with my 83 year old 1929 Russell #3 grader.
Operated by my neighbor,Chris who owns a 140g
CAT. (nice job Chris)
The Russell Co. was purchased by Caterpillar in august 1928 making this grader one of the earliest Cat motor graders. They share many design features clear up to the early 80's.

Sweet, New operators have it made with hydraulic levers and their AC/heated cabs. Most of the old stuff can still out dig hydraulic machines, the old stuff just takes more time to maintain,trailer,and operate. Its just that todays operators think of running equipment as work and not the art that it truly is. Most guys dont want to put the effort into taking care of the old stuff and it is easy to see why it is scrapped. I enjoy your videos keep posting!!!

that is a cool old grader, ive seen ads to take a tractor and you add the grader part to them, cant remember where , but i remember seeing the ads to convert a tractor to a grader, sounds nice, scrapes real nice, looks tight like a tight machine.

Yea, I never mentioned it was originally owned by Oregon state hiway dept. It can barely be seen on the side of it OSHD 29-537, which is model year and equip. #. I contacted OR state archives and they sent me a copy of the record showing where this machine was until 1944 when the sold it to the city of Lostine, OR for $157.00. I paid $850.00 for it in non-running, scrap metal condition. I think the original color was red, for now it's gonna remain in its rusty fresh clothing. Thanks

We sure could use some good grader operators here in western Pennsylvania. I haven't seen a company yet that could produce a flat surface.

Well done on the rescue of this old machine , keeper greased and under shelter if you can , Perhaps a new set of front tires before you get all the way down to the rims.

they don't build them like that anymore, luckily ha ha, just kiddin, nice old machine with a good operator running it. I just put a new 3306di in a 140G now it runs like new, i saved another one.

awesome, they have come along way since then,I would love to run that once,I learned to finish on a old knuckle buster, the one I run now a 12H is just perfect, now they have these stupid joy stick graders that in my opinion are worthless, any way thanks for the video
