    Thanks Mike! Great video. I've been looking at your tools and supplies and I see a lot of things I have but I also see some things I'm gonna need tapered punch for sure. I am a big fan of building custom tools like you did with the spring compressor and the brass tool. It's a great way to go and often the only way to get something done right. This video really helped me understand my Gamo better and get ready for the GR spring magnum arriving in a day or two.

    Well I got the Gamo Magnum GR Spring .22 and started breaking it in. Inspected it really close and started the post-manufacture cleaning and improved lubing. Exterior cleaning and treatment with Hoppes etc. I'm really liking it. It shoots most of the way through a 2 by 4. It detonated once and blasted completely through the 2 x 3 and into my bedding. Very very nice gun. Everything I expected and more and even better then my earlier Gamo break barrel. I decided that this would be one of my 'platform' rifles and so I got a second on on the way. My GSM GEN1 was giving me velocity issues. Took it apart because I suspected the piston seal went bad because the cocking effort was the same. Turns out I was right. Ordered another factory stock seal and it was good as new again. Btw when changing out the piston seal my suggestion is to replace it with the same factory stock piston seal. Anything softer in terms of the material the seal is made out of and you will not get the velocity the rifle is suppose to achieve. Also swapped out the spring system in my GAMO SWARM FOX .22 with the IGT gas ram and she shoots sooooo sweet!!

      Hi Mike
      All the after market piston seals wont hold up, what happens is the rifle will level off as the seal wears in bringing the fps below what it is capabable of getting
      hatsan breech seals are fine, if you were to get a piston seal hatsan has new red seals or custom air seals in australia ( they take 30 days for delivery) seals on ebay from russia I never tried them.
      I make custom o ring piston caps for my guns , worked wonders for the hatsan 95 but bigger magnums I will need to come up with a different set up

      If you mean a tool to clamp to the scope rail to remove and install the internals they already make them.
      I don't like the ideal when working on some ones gun clamping on to the scope rail. I rather know that its protected from wear or scratches

      Hi.
      The gas ram would have to be replaced if you want to have more power Ive been told they are not fillable,
      then you would have to see what it takes to get it to be installed properly, or what is needed far as a adapter. I have never pulled the gas ram on that gun.
      but usually there is some type of adjustment because all gas rams are different in length & size

    Hey Mike, great video!!!
    I just found your channel yesterday and already just watched four videos and subscribed.
    Anyway, I watched this video because I was hoping to get some insight into increasing the power of my Gamos.
    I was wondering if there is anything you can do to increase the fpe of a springpiston air rifle.
    I think based on this video it should be simple enough. You made another video four years ago mentioning that you wanted the Hunter Extreme and you waited for a while before you found one. Is it possible to just buy a heavier spring and just swap them out? I think I heard that the Hunter Extreme has a cocking effort of 60 pounds. Is it possible to buy a 60 pound spring and just swap them out? I would love to have a hunter extreme in .22 where would I buy a 60 pound spring at a auto parts shop or an airgun parts shop?
    Also, do you know approximately how many fpe would result from a 60 pound spring shooting a 14.3 grain pellet? Approximately, what grain weight would be ideal to be used in a .22 Hunter Extreme to maintain flight stability and be enough to humanely harvest a wild hog around 50 to 60 pounds?
    Anyway thanks again for a great video!!!
    Stay Safe, Be Well, God Bless.

    • @MrSteppingstone888
      @MrSteppingstone888  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Ken. The gamo is pretty darn powerful as it is. if your wanting to hunt hogs I would get a pcp air rifle and look your way into that side of things , compressor wise a lot of guys buy the Youg heng tons of how to use them videos on youtube
      I grabbed pcp air tanks fro ali express at 1/3rd the cost then in usa with gauges & hose set up and the pump can be found at the best prices under 300.00 in usa OK BACK TO SPRINGER
      You cant just grab a spring and wala ,/ you will burn up the piston seal
      if you convert a gas ram rifle from a gas ram to a spring "usually you will gain 50 fps because the spring releases its energy faster . Vorteck products inc springs are designed for air guns so they will not break under the working conditions, you would have to see what he has available that you may be able to try. but honestly if your into hunting for game save yourself the effort and just go into pcp and maybe up the caliber to .25 rite now the big ammo is hard to come buy due to the covid crap.
      also you know in air gun with gas or spring power verses pcp the pcp are deadly accurate bulls eyes& stacking pellets at 50yds is typical
      where the other can not due to recoil and harmonics sure you can get a powerful pellet rifle to get the job done but If you want more then whats available then your looking at pcp the air venturi avenger came out with a wood stock version I think for 450.00 shipped from pryamyd air had outstanding reviews last time I looked it over

    • @MrSteppingstone888
      @MrSteppingstone888  3 роки тому +1

      2nd reply/ IF your dead set on non pcp I can set up a hatsan I have my own custom parts made for them that will create better fps getting its proper fps & making the gun a lot smoother . I offer rear piston bearing rings and I know exactly what to look for that most don't. only thing I need is the owner to be sure he has a good bore by cleaning the bore & doing a pellet to bore test by slowly sliding the pellet thru to see if it has bore to pellet contact or if it has no bore to pellet contact the slightest drag is fine but free fall is not/ heck I can even re barrel but if you buy a hatsan check the bore and find that its bad then shoot it and see its not accurate you can send it back .
      accuracy

    • @kenfan5666
      @kenfan5666 3 роки тому

      @@MrSteppingstone888 Hey Mike, Thanks for the prompt reply!!!
      Regarding the .22 Hunter Extreme project, actually I just thought it would be a cool project and great to have a springer with a 60 pound spring that would be adequate in foot pounds of energy to take down feral hogs. I also wanted to save money by just buying the spring and swapping the new heavier one for the old lighter one. I already have a few spring piston Gamos in .22 and I thought that just switching the spring would be adequate and cheaper.
      According to one video I saw, the Gamo Jungle is a springer that tops out at 30 foot pounds of energy with a 40 pound cocking effort. The accuracy was only tested to 40 or so yards but it could probably do 50 easily. So I figured if I swapped the springs I might end up with about 45 foot pounds of energy and possibly increase the range by another 15 to 25 yards for a total maximum range of about 65 foot pounds of energy and a range of about 65 yards.
      By the way, do you hunt with slugs? I haven't thus far but assume that with the better flight stability the increase in fpe and gain of range would be much better than a pcp.
      I havent seen a combo pcp and hand pump for less than $350. But to date I haven't spent more than $200 on any of my Gamo springers. I figure a heavier spring wont cost $150. The only down side is that there aren't any scopes that I know of that can take the abuse of the double recoil so you would have to stick with iron sights. At 52 yoa, my vision is not what it used to be.
      Anyway, thanks again.
      Stay Safe, Be Well, God Bless.

    • @MrSteppingstone888
      @MrSteppingstone888  Рік тому

      with all break barrels the typical would be to go thru the list.
      check the hand break make sure it is not clipping the pellet or something out of alignment inside it , check breech block pivot bolt is correct tightness and barrel doesn't drop down after its cocked and still not shut. then the bore see if its not filthy from crosman pellets which often can foul a barrel out fast due to the junk in them at times. check breech seal is not leaking/ using the closed up on a thin piece of tissue then fire the pellet thru it to see if any tissue blows out. check the stock bolts, and finally check you scope set up often the scope shifts on these magnums / see what you get when using the open sights compared to your scope set up
      know how far out from reticle center you dialed the turrets to get on bulls eye if its to much it could cause the reticle to shift its best if the scope is zeroed and you bend the barrel to get the point of impact close to the bulls eye/ every gun is different also you can clean the bore then use a thin smoothed ended rod to push the pellet down thru slowly and you feel what the pellet to bore contact is to determine if the bore is good or pellet has to much free fall do it on a45 degree downward but no more you don't want the weight if the rod to push the pellet but just go slowly while your feeling every nuisance as you go thru and be sure the pellet falls out the hand break when done / Gamos have good barrels but you never know . if pellet is snug and hard to push then it becomes super easy etc you need to know what your bore is telling you. but start the pellet in the bore tuck it just past the breech don't use the skinny rod to get it started use something else then he skinny rod so you don't fight in the beginning once inside then you can pay attention to its travel and what it is telling you. FYI if you check the bore for pellet to bore fit the barrel needs to be cleaned first or you can definitely get a bad reading, I use goo gone & patches etc / If you later do bend the bore don't put pressure on the barrel block its plastic you would need to set up and use a press carefully on barrel only and lastly a little bend goes a long way go easy and you wont have to re bend it back if you went to far

    I really wish you could compare the gamo magnum side by side with the hatsan 125 or 135, just to see which of the two has the bigger receiver or compressor tube, because this is what will ultimately drive more air volume and transfer more energy to the pellet.
    Hatsan claims about 30mm diameter for the 135, 29mm for the 125, while gamo 33mm.
    Knowing the length would be interesting.

      well I am not up on the other gamos you have to watch for the name because the way they named their guns can confuse you with another model ex) gamo magnum - gamo maximum or gamo magnum swarm, swarm being it has a rotary clip that hold pellets for faster shooting experience.
      personally I opted out of the rotary clip because I thought it would add more to go wrong but Iam keeping my eye on the model to see if any complaints come up

      Hi Wayne
      I would stick with crosman I recently bought gas rams from crosman about three weeks ago the ones I bought were from the xl Benjamin the bigger one & the smaller one from the nitro venom air rifle your ram may be slightly different and may not be available ( have no ideal ) but if you need a ram Iam thinking one of the two I use may work
      each ram was like 10.00 plus 4.00 shipping/ out side of crosman you need information on your guns internal parts for gas ram size and rod length as well as how far does the rod actully travel when its cocked all that is needed when buying a comercial gas ram also they are alot more money

      I am always shoving things out of the way to make sure my hand is clear when turning the handle/ dont know if I mentioned it but I use foam pipe insul to drop the receiver into before it goes between the wood rails then you learn how far to cover the receiver, so the insul doesn't mess up your alignment .I think maybe just using a cut towel to wrap the tube would be better fit up and the two rails could be closer but at least everything is protected especially if you work on someone's else gun

And I would just leave it alone as it is. That is if you agree that it's good as it is out of the box. The only thing I was thinking of doing is polishing the trigger components. Seems to me that you can access all the parts just by taking of the stock. I was also wondering if the trigger is made of metal or plastic. Seems it's metal, but i just want to be sure.

    • @MrSteppingstone888
      @MrSteppingstone888  3 роки тому +1

      Hi. the trigger is some type of non metal composite .
      well any air gun could give you a problem that's just the way it is for ex) rws 34 a long while ago would come out of the factory dry of proper lubricant it was recommended via pryamyd air at the time to have them go thru it to be sure before shipping for a extra 10. to 20.00 or other rws known for the barrel droop .
      This gamo magnum is very unique and I would not hesitate in buying it, decent trigger it feels great to hold in spite of the most ridicules lite shell of a stock and the rest of the gun is light they do have good barrels and I have yet to hear anyone say they did not enjoy that gun. I say go for it do not get a 177 they shoukld of made it in ,25 or 22 but they dont because most people g for Feet per second thats what sells
      instead of going with what make a better rifle power & size of the caliber matter

    • @MrSteppingstone888
      @MrSteppingstone888  2 роки тому +1

      Yes That would be BAD if it gets in front of the piston seal it can cause denotation. detonation can ruin the barrel & air chamber port hole. NO gear lube no oil has to be non petroleum like below
      there is two area's the air chamber which is in front of the piston seal then there is the rest of the tube from cocking slot on back . synthetic can be used it gets burnished into the steel tube/ typically a molly paste is used in air chamber then swiped on piston seal sides when installing the piston ,or you can use super tek synthetic lube its non petroleum from wallmart its red, you can burnish both into the tube along with the air chamber use a wood dowel with rolled up paper towel taped tight at middle & end on the dowel so it wont move
      but once piston is down inside the air chamber the tube area behind the piston should get another non petroleum lube
      such as Lucas red its in a small bottle from O riley auto , it is usually on the counter/ use a wood dowel with paper towel rolled up & taped tight you want the tube walls lightly wet but not dripping, that way the piston has lubrication when it slides back /when doing the air chamber I mark the dowel so I know where the line of lube was put on the paper towel, goin & out but one direction around usually so the paper towel folds tighter not un raveled direction
      for a spring if you have one just lightly coat it so its not bare with super tek red lube, do not glob it up /here is a link. price went up on this

      @@dunno6442 the gas rams need adapters one for each end of the ram, Iam not familiar with the gun you may be wanting to do it to but some guns you can drill the center bottom of the piston so the Rod seats it to keep it centered leaving just the trigger end to make a adapter , it just depends but in any case it is not a simple swap & drop in/ also the gas rams have to be install so that there is pre load meaning the gun would install by having to push the ram together/ that is so the ram cant reach its end when fired if it did it would be slamming its internal parts possibly causing a ram failure

      @@dunno6442 Minimum Pre load would be 1/8" / another word with everything lined up the end plug would be sticking out at least 1/8" no less that means when the gun is fired the rams travel stops at 1/8" before it reached its end of slamming into the rams body. some rams will have extra rod length others will just make it with what left to travel. If you do drill the bottom of piston you only need a dished out divot so the rod pivots in the center. without being able to skip out. drilling the rams bottom at center is easy as long as you make a bushing even if its wood, that will just fit in the piston to keep the bit center about mid way down, so you would drill a hole the size of your bit thru it but make the bushing so it fits with out getting jammed inside the piston, I can make adapters but I would need info & pictures

    hello I am subscribed to your channel congratulations for the videos, I am writing to you because I need some advice from you who are good at this, I am writing to you from Italy, here unfortunately the maximum power is 7.5 joules, I bought a gamo replay 10 magnium from 5.5, practically the diablo too heavy and it does not go, it sucks, a real shit, can you tell me how can I get it to 45 joules? I hope you can help me because I do not find information anywhere. I hope to hear from you soon

      Hi Thomas
      From what I heard from other guys who had the same restrictions
      they enlarged the air chamber port hole between the receiver forks the barrel block bolts into, you will have to be able to disassemble the gun , pull the piston out. so you can flush the receiver tube out after you drilled the hole larger.
      NO MORE THAN 4 MM ! more than that you will loose power again
      obviously you will have to re do the inside of the tube with what lubricant you learned how to use. be careful putting the piston back, before any re assembling you should go over with fine grit to smooth any cut out sharp edges that may feel catchy inside the tube before lubing & reassembling
