Interesting to hear you mention the sweet and sour nature of this one, as well as for Old Pulteney. I’m drawn to pour a bourbon cask Old Pulteney or a Balblair 12 every now and then, I think for this reason. I also think this is also why some people don’t like them so much. I also like the Old Pulteney 15 and Balblair 15, but they don’t have the sweet and sour thing going for them, in my opinion. That said, I still think you will like the Balblair 15. It sounds like it's a new one for you John. I have both the 12 and the 15, different from each other ofcourse. Balblair today may not be like yester years but they put out 46% and in natural offering products. I believe having Craigellachie 13, Clynelish 14, Glencadam 10 & 15, Balblair 12 & 15 can give your a good spectrum of ex-bourbon and some sherry finish bottles and they are reasonably priced compared to where others are.
I have the 15yr and never quite got along with it. Perhaps a more youthful expression would do it? I have my doubts, but yours is a very positive review!
Balblair is doing some tasty whiskies. They can be a bit overpriced depending on where you are but I have enjoyed nearly every Balblair I've tried. 15 is I think my favourite from the core range but I highly recommend the vintage releases if you can find any. Cheers!
