When everyone is out working for a wage and so few are either working in the home and community or volunteering, there is less glue, less cement to hold the bricks of family, community, life together. It's all fine when everyone is well, busy, excited, but when you're sick or going through many difficulties, that's when you realise how poor we are in time. Time to talk. Time to enjoy. Time to help. Time to listen long enough to understand.
I've been extremely busy most of my life. Now I'm decidedly on the other end. It's then you see this poverty. And the richness and value of people who take the time. So, volunteering is not a waste. It's pouring glue into broken lives, or, before they break so they hold together stronger.
