Just bought vocaster two studio. For 99€ new, 3 year warranty. Includes this microphone, a headphone and the interface. It is 20€ less expensive for just the interface. 😁 Is this headphone worth €9? 😂 Keeping those extra studio items for backup. My real microphone is a Sennheiser md21u 😁
@@catalin0504 it is a back up for me, haven't given it much time. Using Sennheiser md21u and those don't tend to die. Just couldn't resist getting an emergency microphone and headphone for that price 🤣 and if it is too bad, my 3 y.o. can play with it 😎
There is the listener to consider. I, like many, if not most, listened to this through UA-cams smushed audio on average Bluetooth headphones (over ear closed back) and I was hard pushed to hear any difference between any of the mics, and none would have made any difference to my enjoyment of the video. For the average vlogger, streamer, content maker, any of those mics or the venerable SM58 would be just fine, especially with a little tweaking in post. The SM7B is I'm convinced in most cases a vanity purchase.
It is a true story that the vast majority of listeners couldn't care less about the difference...... The only time even a trained ear audiophile can tell the difference is with decent headphones....
Appreciate the shout! I didn't HATE it......and I would almost say it sounds just as good as most mics in its price range....but its that DANG capsule and the fact that you can buy the same mic in the form of the music villa mv7, the universal audio sd-1 and the t.bone bc500..... Universal Audio should be the source of my rage since it is considerably more expensive. That mic just agitated me lol Great review as always.
A update on pricing. As of June 24, this is available in the Vocaster 2 bundle; V2, this mic, headphones and xlr cable all in for just £85 plus shipping on Thomann. Not a bad deal.
@@DarkCornerStudios I guessed they'd be nothing special. They'll do for a school pair. For that price the V2 and an 'OK' mic isn't to be sniffed at. It's almost a freebie.
I was the Podmic with a Vocaster, but then I saw this for 100Eur and switched course. The Podmic setup would h ave been around 15 eur more. I hope I made the right decision.
I don't hate it but I also don't understand why Focusrite choose to do these these weird and very cheap mics either. Stick what you're good at or at least start with a worthy mic.
Hello DCS! Just finished watching this video, amazing video by the way, but i just wanted to know, what audio interface did you use for the Vocaster DM14v?
Great review. I'm thinking of upgrading my audio interface as I have the 2nd Gen 2i2 from Focuseite, very reliable, so the brand has impressed me. I saw their Vocaster Two and it dawned on me that they've designed this mic to really work in conjunction with the Vocaster which has some auto gain and software features to enhance audio. For the price seems like a steal. There is a noticeable clarity difference but nothing you couldnt fix with a few plugins or post prod. Even if you didnt mean to, you sold me on this one
If someone wants to buy it, better to buy it if its for a begginer, not for singing but from a bundle maybe. Now talking about "podcast" microphone do you think the t.bone bc 500 is a good mic for singing. Maybe mxl 990 or behringer b-1 at the same price would do better than t.bone?
I currently use a Maono PD200x with USB, do you think this is worth the upgrade to buy along with the Vocaster two audio interface and Vocaster headphone ? It's called the Vocaster two studio bundle and I can get it at 98 euros at the moment
The sm58 is awesome! Looks terrible on video though. Only $30 more though I got this mic and I LOVE IT!!! I had the rode podmics. Complete junk especially for a two person podcast. They pick up everything including the other person talking and make editing the audio HORRIBLE!
@noiseconnector it's a dynamic mic. They have been around for over 100 years. Capsule tech sure. But these aren't proprietary capsules. Not much to research and or develop...unless it is that
I'm getting am sm58 after that. The vocaster sounds okay but not so much so I'd go for it. The sm7b is such a classic and it sounds great. I still like my Rode procaster dynamic though it needs a fair amount of gain and it's self noise once it's cranked up is annoying. My preamps are good!
@@DarkCornerStudioshey man, sadly sm58 cost about $120 on my country. More expensive than v7 ($100). But I think Se Dynacaster dmc8 is a bit cheaper here at only $194. Which one u recommend at that situation for beginner home studio?
Buying only the Vocaster DM14v for 149€ directly from Focusrite could be a worse Idea … but the Vocaster Studio Two for 89€ at the last sale two weeks ago (Amazon) was nice for me … essentially for my use case it works fine, kr
Yea - good grief - these "Ginsu-Knife" microphones! Let's all just thank our lucky stars Ron Popeil - God rest his soul - never got into the microphone business - OH No ! Mr. Microphone! *let's examine that capsule*

Meh...it was funnier to go with the hate angle...bahahaha
@@DarkCornerStudios I smiled.... So no argument here. I was quite mad I paid for that thing.
@@ObscureMics Amazon return is a beautiful thing.
I ain't holding onto it

Its ok to start expanding...but not with money grabs
To me there's nothing really wrong with this microphone despite the price. It sounds good.

Probably scarlet 2i2...can't remember...why?
Yo cool for showing how much that mic cost, but fr how much did that 'lue beard cost.

Just a working opinion from my time with the mic.

Not even close. SM7B sounds MUCH better, but the question is, is it 2-3 times better to justify the cost?
Yeah...when you start EQing those frequencies...the big differential will become obvious

How do you know that Focusrite did not have research and development for that?
Lol.
OK...so what research or development was necessary for a basic dynamic mic?
@@DarkCornerStudios yeah, you answer me about that, because you sound so sure, that it raised a question in my head.

So basically a lot of mic manufacturers are 'doing a Behringer' half the time but then blush and go coy about it, where as Behringer at least owns it.
Toronto Blue Jays home opener and you're showing your colours.
Honestly, it sounds better for you than it did for Bark I still think it is a bit over priced for what it is.
