    Babayan never loses sight of any detail, and that included thanking his page turner. What a master indeed, in music and in attitude.

    Lebhafte Aufführung dieser fein komponierten Suite im rhythmischen Tempo mit perfekt synchronisierten und gut artikulierten Töne zweier Klaviere sowie völlig effektiver Dynamik. Echt atemberaubend!

    I love Rach's 2 piano suites. There are many wonderful recordings, but I am partial to my old Vronsky and Babin recording. They played this music for Rachmaninoff himself.

    It is probably not fair to compared this duo to a version with a duo that had played together for many years. This is a playing that is very exciting and very interesting. It is a pleasure to watch any version of Rachmaninoff.Trifonov in glasses is new for me. A great video i will watch often. Thank You, WQXR

    Superb. I especially love the way the sonorities of these two are so distinct. Babayan actually has a more Russian sound than than Russian Trifonov: it is deep and buttery, while Trifonov's is lighter. Closing my eyes, I can tell which one has which part.

    • @gtimny
      @gtimny 6 років тому +7

      Well, they're both Russian really. Babayan was born in Soviet Armenia but trained at the Moscow Conservatory. Babayan trained Trifonov in the US. That said, I do hear Babayan's distinctive sound - in fact I heard Babayan on his first trip to the US in 1989. That classically Russian sound has been there all along.

    • @johnspradling7906
      @johnspradling7906 6 років тому +6

      Makes you wonder if there is "a Russian sound". They both produce exquisite tone, and I love watching them to see how they do it. Babayan's hands are part of the cause for his tone. Big bear paws! I do believe he also is the one who is singing. This is a fine performance!

    What is with Daniil's page turner... push on the spine of the book so that the pages stage after you flip it. Damn, I feel bad for him.

    I cannot help comparing the Trifonov/Babayan version of the Rachmaninoff with that of Bruk/Taimanov of the Soviet era. Trifonov/Babayan seemingly were sight reading, though marvelously. Bruk/Taimanov, in the 20th century, were true long term duo pianists who had worked out a mutual approach to the Rachmaninoff. Bruk/Taimanov played Suite No 2 while Trifonov/Babayan played Suite No 1. I am commenting only on the finer finish of the older Russian pair.

    My compliments on the two gorgeous Steinway B's. There is no clangy "B bass" evident anywhere, and they both sing beautifully. Of course, the pianists have a lot to do with it as well! Okay, a slight revision is in store. The Tarantella would do better on D's.

    Oh those terrible piano pages that keep on turning back, they are my constant annoyance as well as poor Trifonov's. They should have "cracked" the score backward before starting. A prep job for the page turner really. Given this handicap Trifonov does a good job in what might be an "a vue" performance.

    • @DdavidoffC
      @DdavidoffC 8 років тому +3

      I learned a great trick for getting scores to stay open: when you first get them, stand them straight up on the spine and lay down one page at both the front and back, then kind of "massage" those pages in the middle where they meet the spine. Then lay down another page on both sides, and repeat the process until you eventually meet in the middle. The score will then just lay flat forever.

    Ребята, да не кривляйтесь вы так за роялем. Не делайте из Рахманинова лакомый кусочек. Здесь музыка совсем о другом. А подергивание плечиками создает местечковый колорит. Хотя, может это и подрозумевалось...

    Daniil's page turner is evidently useless. I get so upset watching the page turner flounder that I cannot continue watching. Even a paper clip would solve the problem-----PLEASE!

    • @johnspradling7906
      @johnspradling7906 6 років тому +3

      I agree with you. It is a sad day when a page turner is useless, and you know you could do well without. A knowledgeable page turner will absolutely mutilate the spine of the music before going out on stage, rather than let than happen.

    I performed this at music college. My teacher said it sounded like a race! We did not, however, play as fast as these two. I think this was a little frenetic in the first, second and last movements, although there was considerable control and good duo playing on the whole. It would have sounded better with two full-sized pianos. Trifonov has the annoying habit of tailing off the lyrical phrases at the ends, causing too much weakening of the tone for my liking.

    • @trblcleft
      @trblcleft 3 роки тому +1

      Most phrases naturally tail off and what do you mean "two full sized pianos" These are atleast Steinway B's.
