Ride on Acela Express

- We capture most of the ride between New York and Boston on Acela Express train #2150 other than a few sections where the train was traveling slow so we eliminated some of that but not too much. We get good speed and the journey saw little or no snow on the west end of the ride, but by the time we got to Rhode Island, the scene turned into a winter wonderland. All trains seen are identified as well as the stations and interlockings. You can clearly hear the Acelas’ hybrid K5LA blowing for workers and railroad crossings. Narrated with info graphics.
Amtrak was actually thinking of bring the northeast corridor to long Island the queens village section
Tim, pretty soon Metro-North Railroad will be sending some New Haven Line trains into Penn Station, I have a gut feeling those trains will be packed, and if you think your ride on Amtrak is this slow wait until Metro-North starts Penn Station Access when that comes to fruition!!!
I remember going through CP216 and told the owner of my company we were getting on the NY subdivision and he had no idea. Win for me.
Excellent video Timmy. I noticed that once it got past New Haven, it hauled ass. Apparently, Metro-North is Acela's kryptonite.
FYI: "ALL Aboard Amtrak"..closing song performed by Richie Havens....may he RIP...my dearest cousin..! We love you cuzzo❤..never forgotten...!
Your mention of the original Route 128 station brought back lots of memories. Grew up in a Boston suburb in the 1950s and was at that station many times meeting aunts from NY and also my father returning on a business trip. The station did look like a little depot,. You would exit from Route 128 about 1/2 mile north of the tracks and the station was in the middle of absolutely nothing, just undeveloped fields. The platforms were ground level and you simply walked across them to meet the northbound passengers. The amount of development is amazing.
I'm from New Jersey and my Ex boyfriend was from Boston and I remember taking the Amtrak Acela Express almost every weekend when visiting him staying up in Boston for the weekend those were great dating memories that I had a long time ago..
Enjoyed the video. But sad to say, the American railway still can’t touch European systems. We go through to many cities and towns to hit top speeds for a good length of time as they do. As yes, Ruggles, beyond torture.
I ❤ South Station. My buddy and I, we used to hang out at the end of track 9 and watch Tower One interlocking while eating some lunch and gabbing. He was an Amtrak dispatcher so knew his stuff.
A shave and a haircut at Rowayton. Awesome!
An aunt, uncle and cousins lived in Allendale NJ when we were kids. We'd visit on occasion. The two older cousins and I would ride the trains in the early and mid 70's.
This was on my birthday! Love your videos just found them thanks for this
I grew up in Northern NJ, and I live in southern NH now. I always love taking the Acela; it’s the best way to go.
Excellent video, many familiar locations in CT. Once made the trip from New Haven to Boston for a Red Sox game......... only to have the game rained out! Safe travels.
I remember riding on the original Turboliner NYC-Boston in the 1970s. It was a bust, could only go as fast as standard trains because the rails couldn't handle high speeds.
Great video, retired from Amtrak a couple of years ago and I appreciate you letting everyone see how friendly and convenient Acela is for the community.
Live in Texas now, but this train takes me thru home territory. Go thru my home town of Norwalk, Ct and into Boston where I went to grad school and later lived for several years. Our guide by the way is from Long Island - where I also lived- and does some great trips on Boston T.
Interesting ride on Acela. I've ridden as far as Bridgeport on Metro North trains. Lots of action on this line!! Thanks Tim.💚👌
Fun Fact: in Connecticut the Thames River is not pronounced "Tems", but THAYMES. First thing they told me when I worked there back in the 80's. Great video.
I rode the Senator and the Colonial 60 yrs ago. Two great trains . I sure miss them. Great diners and good meals on those trains.
