- 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W30 Convertible in PLUM CRAZY at 2022 MCACN Show Muscle Car Of The Week
This amazing 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 convertible is wearing an unusual color for an Oldsmobile, it's actually a factory Chrysler color called Plum Crazy Purple! However, this amazing car was painted by General Motors in this Chrysler color back in 1970 and is considered correct for the car. How can this be? We got the whole story from restore Allan Steinbock at the 2022 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show in Chicago.
This is not just a pretty face, as this 442 features the 455 V8 engine with the W-30 performance package, including an aluminum intake manifold, hotter camshaft, tuned carburetor, and other blue-printed engine parts. It also features sport suspension, and the W 27 rear axle as well.
Although it is not a typical car, it is typical of the types of amazing and rare muscle cars found each year at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals Show in Chicago, we hope to see you there!

Kevin said he was at the show last week. What happens between then and until the show opens to the public? Is it open to the press?
The SEMA show was 2 weeks ago. This was from the 2022 MCACN show, and the 2023 MCACN show is this coming weekend in Chicago November 18th and 19th, and it's 100% open to the public! See you there!
Probably one of the best American cars ever made, it has everything, quality, style, performance, comfort and not that expensive compared to today’s cars even when price is inflation adjusted.
The olds 442 was definitely an iconic muscle car. Have always loved them. What a unique car with the Mopar paint!
Wow! I didn’t know that about the paint option. That’s wild using a Dodge paint color on a GM car. Thanks for sharing!
Mopar paint on a GM? That's crazy, Plum Crazy!
I see what you did there.
Good answer. 🏆
My Dream Car For Sure!
Awesome 1 of 1 olds! Nice video and information.
It’s a beauty.
Absolutely Stunning!!
Good lord that's beautiful. 😲
Absolutely stunning, not a bad angle & the Plum Crazy & White is a absolute winner.
Thank you Kevin for sharing this video.
Cheers

My pleasure!
Nice!
Get this channel back on the road again!!
Just beautiful….
My favorite car with my favorite Mopar color ... please pinch me i must be dreaming !!!
Wow what a beautiful W30
Sweeeeeeet. ❤
Nice 442!! My heart belongs to the lesser known SX though, especially the 1970
My first car i bought at 15 years old was a 77 Olds Omega SX, Blue with Silver stripe, originally a 305 Chevy, but had a 350 Chevy when i bought it, 2 barrel engine, wasn't very quick, But did nice Burnouts with it's 2.56 geared one legger 10 Bolt rear. I wish it was a 70-72 Cutlass SX, but for a gear heads first car, it wasn't too bad.

That was great Kevin. I love(d) Musclecar of the WEEK. 🏆
See you next Week for another episode?
( *any idea what this particular car was valued at? it’s gotta be rare)
Oldsmobile 442
Nice!!!
A W E S O M E !!!!!!!!
Thanks, rare & Classic….admittedly, we did like our First NEW CAR PURCHASE: 1970 CORONET 500/ loaded/383/ Ralley Red/ Black vinyl top(*$3100.00, full price); IF could have afforded a 442( generally much more expensive, esp the HIGH END BUICK, TORINO,superCars) & availability, prob would have gone a Classic like this 442……(* I had seen SUPERBIRD , CLOSE: to dramatic)
Why are there no vids of 1960, 1961, or 1962 Chev Impalas? Are there none in that collection?
I wish they would let you do that today. I’d pay up to $5,000 to be able to have a custom color.
Did he really compare the W-30 to the Boss 429 engine?
He did, but we think it was more like the W-30 being the highest-level engine you could get, like the Boss 429 was to the Mustang.
I work at GM for many years and the majority of people are not aware that Oldsmobile use to be the ( Experimental Division ) … They were also the Strongest Engine that GM made …
You could overheat it to where it was glowing in the dark , and still would most of the time , survive .
All the 1970’s Caddy Eldorado’s used Olds engines up to 1978 .
Caddy Sevilles also used Oldsmobile engines . When caddy decided to convert a gasoline engine to Diesel … they chose Olds … When every body in the Country has only 3 speed Automatic Transmissions , Olds had a 4 Speed automatic .
Recognized by all Countries around the World as the first high performance car in 1949 ..
GM should be ashamed for discontinuing the best car they ever made .
😢😢😢😢😢😢
My first 3 cars were Olds. Cutlass Supremes! My dream car is above! WOW!
