That's an excellent restoration project, the "AMX/3" prototype. Imagine what might have been if this had gone into general manufacture production. What historical stories and achievements it could have contributed to American society and culture. I really cannot wait to see and hear the finished project in action. Good show and presentation topic guys!!!
Amazing! Thanks for sharing this with us, i love the 60's and early 70's Amx's,until the bubble hump fenders, but up until then fantastic imo! The III is cool and thankfully not lost to history, thanks again guys!
It was fast!!!!! ol' story; Had a buddy, ex-navy seal 'Nam, #3 auto salesman of the year 2 years running for a very large Mfgr.. saw one on display at a Dealer whom had over a dozen dealerships and Dealer took him out to the freeway on/down ramp... my buddy told me by the time they went down the on ramp and hit the highway it was the first time he had ever been scared in a car! That is a lot of speed in a short distance. Buddy said the car wasn't for sale so he didn't need to say, 'No' lollol. I'd never seen a pic of the car before this, life is good.
I love this guy!! The owners son.down to earth.every video he's holding a beer.and of course met him getting his beer cooler!! Love the suit!! Always love and race amc power.would be awesome to see this car.
Now that's a cool car ! Can't wait to see the restoration of it . Always been a big fan of AMC just never got home with one . Got hold of a Javelin once and before I picked it up it was stolen from the guys yard . So I have stuck with my Chevy muscle cars . I drive a 66 SS Chevelle L78 car . Done a frame off restoration on it . Couple of videos of it on my channel .
There was a project in California to build fiberglass reproduction bodies and rolling chassis. IIRC the person involved was having a modern transaxle modified to mate to the AMC bell housing. There are videos out there on the project.
If you take a moment and look at the rear of the Concept car from an angle or even from the front wheels back, you can see where the lines of the Matador Coupe derived.
Would be cool if someone built a run of replicas with AMC V-8s, as has been done with kit Cobras, GT40s, Cheetahs, etc. Great barn find story, by the way.
Man, AMCs are cool. I hate that they couldn’t stay competitive enough to stay in business, I’d love to see what they would’ve become. This thing is just as awesome as the Pantera and then some.
Hay Keven, forgot to mention, The way you mentioned, David Person, talking about how he Drove, showed, how great the 428s really were. Richard's biggest rival.
Speed Racer car IRL. That must be fun to drive. What poise in the rear, and what lines, a sexy machine! I want an electric one. Can I 3D print the body panels? Does AMC license that design?
It's begging for restoration. I help restore an AMX prototype it was suppose to been crash tested but was spared that fate. Strangely it was totaled later while being trailered to a car show. Fate I guess.
I wish they would've edited out more of the talk about Junkvettes, no one who has an IQ score above 80 gives a damn about any Garbage Motors vehicles, especially the Junkvettes....get to the AMC already....
Why not just make a copy? Brand new frame and chassis faithful to the original? That's what is being done with the classic Bugatti Atlantique in a way.
I would not touch this thing.... no updates.. mods... restore... it will never be what it was.. . Replicate it if you dream of driving it... living history... feel like it is too late... too tempting to drive it.
That's a great story. It's fantastic that it made it to the show.

What a story to an AMC icon! Best wishes to the team handling the restoration. Remember, you are working on an American icon!

My dad was a Ford guy. But he loved him some AMC too!

Thank You,

Always great to see AMC stuff
Triple diamond quality cars 😂
Cars are meant to be driven.
The rear quarters remind me of the Matador. 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
What's a Matador?
You have no idea how long I've been wanting to do that.
Jim Kelly A car built by AMC in the ‘70’s.
Yes it does ,good eye

I got to see it at MCACN. I hope to see it again when it's finished.

If I had the money, I’d be in line.

I wish AMC would have followed through with the production of the AMX/3
Most beautiful car ever made
The nose is the Mach 5 from speed racer
BINGO! - I thought it looked familiar but could not place it.
..thought that too.
I saw one of the prototypes at the San Diego auto museum about 25 - 30 years ago.
That AMC is so much better than the boring-ass Rustangs and Camarrows that dominate these shows.
I hope this car came with its original numbers matching drivetrain. Can’t wait to see it completed in its original green color
That is a cool car. I wasn’t familiar with the AMX III. Super cool.
The website the sons mention at the end isn't up and running.
amx3.org/
It’s up.
You can't put the typical "www." in front or you won't find it. Michael Clarke below has it right.
@@michaelclarke9488 Wish they had a youtube channel to make the restoration process more tangible.
Peter Carey, that would be pretty cool!
@@michaelclarke9488 Agreed. I would have subscribed immediately.
Who owns the original plans & rights to the AMX III? Are there any company willing to build the car?
They're ALWAYS "planning on restoring it", aren't they....?
And here we go. You're beaming into my dreams again.
Love it!
Hay Keven, forgot to mention, The way you mentioned, David Person, talking about how he Drove, showed, how great the 428s really were. Richard's biggest rival.
Wow, same year as my 240Z. Timeless design.

1968 it almost seems like the predecessor to what would be the DeTomatso Pantera
What motor?
Now that is cool!!
That’s a great barn find / car story.
These cars blow the contemporary GT40 and Pantara off the road.
5:28 dude cant stand townie son lol
I would restomod the living fudge out of this!
me too, given the opportunity i would absolutely love just to burn a million dollars, maybe more...
Over a year. I check their social media an nothing is happening. covid?
Good lord, if this car had been built...
I was thinking that Al Vanderwoulde might have drag raced a funny car version of this but I think it may have been a concept Charger instead.
Nice
Make a fiberglass mold and body and a frame and use a big block transaxle Cadillac Eldarado or Oldsmobile Tornado big block.👋
Yep the door handles give it away.
It’s better to see the car than to see people talking about it.
AMC had a building in Detroit ? Don't you mean Kenosha ? or it got moved to Detroit ?.
Chassis #1 was a "pushmobile." Never powered nor run.
So what ever happened with this car?! Seems like it disappeared!!!
It's begging for restoration. I help restore an AMX prototype it was suppose to been crash tested but was spared that fate. Strangely it was totaled later while being trailered to a car show. Fate I guess.
The pea soup green would of looked cool should of left it.
Too bad yesterday's oddballs are today's millionaire cars
I wish they would've edited out more of the talk about Junkvettes, no one who has an IQ score above 80 gives a damn about any Garbage Motors vehicles, especially the Junkvettes....get to the AMC already....
...go put another fart can on your honda civic.
Very cool. Nearly as cool as a maverick
Hopefully they didn't ripp the gentleman off buying it from him.
I hope not, but it sounds like everyone involved already knew exactly what it was.
Why not just make a copy? Brand new frame and chassis faithful to the original? That's what is being done with the classic Bugatti Atlantique in a way.
Leave it be. 3D scan the body to recreate it then go hog wild with a replica.
He had it for over 35 years and he was planning to restore it. If he hadn’t done it by now…🙄
I would not touch this thing.... no updates.. mods... restore... it will never be what it was.. . Replicate it if you dream of driving it... living history... feel like it is too late... too tempting to drive it.
...patina is for poor people like the wacko who owned it (neglected)....concours restoration.!
