    I love that they included a variety of libraries. Some very formal with rich wood tones with books more for display, some very modern and sleek with minimalist bookshelf design, and others that were cozy and comfy that could easily be a sanctuary in someone’s basement or attic in suburbia. Superb video, thank you for putting it together and thank you to the UA-cam algorithm for helping me find it. Cheers!

    I love libraries, *living libraries*, but this selection shows mostly amazing display rooms from multi-million dollar mansions where the focus is not on the books but on the rooms and the particular atmosphere books help create. My personal preferences for a library are:
    1) Ergonomics: The books should be accessible (no painting or other decorative elements directly in front of the books!) and well lit. A comfortable armchair or sofa with good reading lights. Good lighting overall is important, and by that I don't mean a lot of light but lights at the right spots and reduced glare. No exposed light source should be visible (only indirect light). To work in the library, the ideal is an ergonomic chair with a deep (> 60 cm) desk with no deskdrawers underneath (for more leg space).
    2) Protect the books; large windows are nice, but direct sunlight kills books. Old public libraries had dedicated reading rooms with large windows to admit natural light, but these days electric light is more practical and safe. Open fire in the library is crazy. Damp basements are also bad for the survival. A lot of intricate decorative details and display items on the shelves make dusting difficult. Thick oriental carpets are not ideal to roll over with a bookshelf staircase.
    3) Efficient use of space. Most of us don't live where we can devote a large multi-level room to a single-purpose library. At the minumum it should be a place for social interaction, entertaining guests etc. Equidistant bookshelves look nice but are not very efficient at storing books that come in various sizes.
    Purely decorative details like spending deskspace on planetary globes nobody would use and having a big sundial *indoors* (17:54) rubs me the wrong way instead giving an unauthentic feeling of a fake facade, like a stage, rather than a real place. Along those lines I note that 16:11 does not show a library but a bookshelf *wallpaper* :) Easily recognisable from the repeated book patterns.
    Libraries can be both practical and decorative, too bad there were so few examples of that in this selection.

    These are so beautiful that some of them look like film-sets. They obviously belong to the very rich. I've got 2,000 volumes in a two-bedroom ex-council flat. There are home-made book-cases and improvised shelves in almost every corner. I've no room for an armchair and read sitting on the floor with my back against a couch, which has got so many books on it that there's no room to sit on it. A similar video of scruffy, worked in libraries would be more interesting, I think. Thanks, all the same. I found this very beautiful and soothing and loved the music. A series entitled 'Great, Scruffy, Worked in Libraries of the World' would probably be very interesting indeed, wouldn't it. To qualify for inclusion, you would probably have to have at least 100 volumes on the floor.

      Your living space sounds like the beginning of a very good story. Amongst all those pages, the most interesting one would be you. Shalom.

      Thank you for your kind comment, Ms Baztastic. I have tried to work out the provenance of your name. You are right in a way. I've had a very interesting life and my library is unique in the UK. I am not very knowledgeable about filming, etc, though I do have a little video-camera. It has occurred to me to make a video about my library and its history. It contains a few rarities. One title, in particular, is not even in the British Library or the Bodleian, if you know what those two are, two of the great libraries of the country (GB), if not of the world. To do it well, I need the help of someone with more experience in filming. Thanks again for commenting. I love these conversations.

      Dvorak, String Quartet. Not sure which one. Probably written during or after his time in the U. S.

    The attic at the 2:11 mark is my favorite. Can't understand the libraries with a view. I'd be too easily distracted to read.

    It’s mostly rooms decorated with books. Some obviously just for storage, the rest casual browsing by an individual.

    Something about these pictures is very unsettling... are these AI generated?

    • @MsBaztastic
      @MsBaztastic 2 роки тому +4

      It is the HD photography technique, multiple layered photos taken at different exposures to eliminate shadows and blown out bright lights. Also, they added artificial highlighting and may have even taken the photos at different times of the day to get the perfect view through the window. Also, the use of wide angle lenses and distortion corrections changes the symmetry and relative size of the space. Add in some photography software which can add art techniques to photography, remove imperfections in paint/carpet/finishes and what you have is an idealized picture of a real space. You would never see it this way "all at once" with the naked eye. It is art and marketing more than photography. It is designed to make you feel something in particular concerning what you are seeing. The unsettling pictures were the ones where you noticed it because it was done badly and you have a good eye for such things. I get the same feeling looking at all of NASA's CGI images of space pretending not to be art.

      I think most of them are AI. Some preposterous details, features, lighting, and window views are just too kitchy to be real, imho.
