    Hi I'd love to know what it's like to work in Jamaica. I'm a licensed massage therapist and can most likely work as an independent contractor (once i figure out where to live) but I'm new to everything about Jamaica and am absorbing as much as I can. I also make jewelry, read tarot etc. I'm trying to get a feel for it. My heart has been in Jamaica since forever even though ive never been there. Drawn to red earth and black sand beaches. I'm gonna go stalk your other videos lol. Thank you so much for the information! ❤

      Thank you for checking out my channel! You have to visit and see what it’s like. I’m sure you will fall even more in love with Jamaican when you do. I work while in Jamaica but I don’t work in Jamaica, if that makes sense. It may be a bit of a challenge if pay is very important to you.

    What areas do you feel are great for expat families?

    • @jetsettingwithjackie
      @jetsettingwithjackie  Рік тому +3

      It all depends on what you are looking for as far as living arrangements and proximity to things (airports, local attractions, schools/universities). The north coast is great for families. Mandeville has some nice areas. Some parts of Kingston is family friendly.

    Hi Jackie - Are there groups of Expat Females there in Jamaica near you?
    I’m very interested just not sure I’d want to move there until I’ve come and stayed for a month or so a few times.
    Like you… I’ve moved probs too many times and ended up north of Tampa.

    • @jetsettingwithjackie
      @jetsettingwithjackie  3 місяці тому

      lol so you understand the struggles of moving.
      I have seen somewhere in my searches that there are groups. However I’m not sure how active they are.
      It would definitely be beneficial for you to come and stay for a while before making that big move.

    What is the extent of overcharging of foreigners as happens in other countries? The weather? Details about life and healthcare system for people over 65?

    • @jetsettingwithjackie
      @jetsettingwithjackie  Рік тому +2

      Hello Dovy! Thank you for checking out this video. These are all great things to think about. In reference to overcharging of foreigners, I will not say that it doesn't happen but from my experience as a returning-Jamaican I try to find out the cost of things prior to purchasing and negotiate when necessary. The Weather here is similar to that of other island, warm/hot most of the year; rainy and hurricane seasons; Dry during droughts. As far as the life and healthcare of persons over 65, I would like to get a better understanding for the people here before I provide information on that subject. I will also address these questions in a future video so that others will benefit from the answers.

      @@jetsettingwithjackie Somebody even told me that overcharging can happen against white tourists. I hope it isn't as common as they made it sound.

    • @NellenelleForSure
      @NellenelleForSure Рік тому +1

      @@dovygoodguy1296 Overcharging of ALL foreigners is extremely common and there is no reason for you to think a White person would be an exception to that.
      Period. Your bias and internalized racism and/or privilege jumped right out of you for feeling it necessary to remark on Whitness. Lol.
      Tourism IS the backbone of the economy. They invest in nothing else (not in healthcare, not in education, not in construction or infrastructure) so at all levels they try to get THE MOST out of any and all transactions with any and all foreigners. To the point returning residents are seen as foreigners instead of Jamaicans returning home.
      If you don't have prior knowledge and can advocate for yourself you will be taken advantage of, yet, with your privilege and access to funds you won't even feel it. It will all sound affordable to you, because it *is* . If whatever it is wasn't in your budget it wouldn't look like an attractive option now would it? 👀 So while you may want to play ethical politics, it's better to simply live within your means comfortable instead of trying to live luxury on pennies just because you're in someone else's country.

      No different than Hawaii, Indonesia, and any other tropic Whites reduce to a pleasure escape. You'll be overcharged and overly catered to. That's the trade off.

    • @jetsettingwithjackie

      Hello @Gina your welcome. Thanks for checking out my channel. Have you decided what part of the island you are interested in staying? Once that’s decided then the next step would be to figure out what your living situation will look like (Airbnb/condo/house rental). If you need help in that area I can provide some help there.
